PAMPERED BY MY THREE BROTHERS: THE RETURN OF THE NEGLECTED HEIRESS
Chapter 1852: The richest manChapter 1852: The richest man
Sadly, Atlas couldn’t make it to Nina and Finn’s wedding. But even so, he had sent the couple quite a lot of gifts along with a letter. Aside from him, everyone gathered on this joyful day to celebrate and witness Nina and Finn tying the knot.
And once the wedding was over, it was time to… PARTY.
“Wow… just look at them,” Lily remarked, watching Nina and Finn slow dance in the middle of the venue. “Their first dance as husband and wife looks so magical.”
Her eyes shimmered, still a bit teary at the thought that Nina was getting married.
“I can’t believe I used to hate her,” she wiped her eyes with the corner of her hand, facing everyone around the table.
Seated around their table were Penny, Grace, Ginnie, and Kiara. The three of them were doing their own thing: Penny was already hogging all the food while Grace, Ginnie, and Kiara were talking about something.
“Girls, what are you doing?” Lily frowned, getting the ladies’ attention. “Can we please pay attention to the newlyweds?”
“Lily, I see them every day,” Penny muttered, her mouth full. “And I’m really hungry because no one allowed me to eat, so this damn dress would fit. The wedding’s done, so time for me to eat.”
“Penny, are you pregnant?” Grace asked, tilting her head to the side.
Penny paused as her mouth opened, revealing all the food inside. But before she could scold herself, Ginnie spoke.
“Penny, you’re on your period today,” Ginnie reminded her. “Remember, you needed a tampon earlier?”
“Oh.” Penny closed her mouth and laughed. “Right. I’m just hungry — hehe.”
Then, she continued eating while the ladies shook their heads. Even so, this wasn’t surprising. Penny’s appetite had always been big, even back then. It was just that she did so much work that her weight gain wasn’t as obvious.
“Anyway.” Moving on, Grace snapped her eyes back to Kiara. “So, what happened?”
Now, Ginnie and Grace set their eyes back on Kiara. The latter pursed her lips, fidgeting with her fingers.
Lily, who had been a bit distracted, furrowed her brows. “What are you guys talking about?”
“We’re asking Kiara how it is dating Senior Hugo,” said Ginnie, which made Lily perk up.
Lily had been so busy with her life that if Nina hadn’t been getting married, she would’ve been abroad, living life to the fullest.
“What?!” Like lightning, Lily jumped to the ladies and squeezed herself behind Kiara’s seat. “You’re — you’re dating him?!”
Kiara glanced back at Lily before she pursed her lips and nodded.
“How is it?” Lily leaned closer, intrigued, her eyes shining. No wonder Ginnie and Grace couldn’t focus on the newlyweds’ first dance. This was juicier.
“Well,” Kiara tucked her hair behind her ear, thinking about it.
To be honest, she didn’t even know she and Hugo were dating. It just… happened.
One day, she woke up, and everyone in her warehouse was telling her that her “boyfriend” was there to help. Again. Even when she denied it, no one really listened to her, just because everyone was charmed by him.
But well…
The corners of her mouth hooked up into a smile as she looked at the ladies.
“He’s a good man,” she said. “And I feel safe with him around me.”
“Kiara, just in case you don’t know, the guy swam from an island to the next because he’s broke,” Lily deadpanned, unsure if this was her way of telling Kiara to think better about her choices.
Kiara chuckled. “And I think that’s one of his charms.”
“And he’s broke too!” Lily gasped. “Are you fine with that?”
“Broke?” Kiara tilted her head a bit and looked at everyone. They didn’t say more, but their eyes were telling her the same thing. She smiled. “No, he’s not. If anything, he’s the richest man I’ve ever met.”
Lily’s face twisted while everyone furrowed their brows.
“Have you seen my man?” Penny pointed at herself. “He’s buying a planet just to name it after me.”
“Financially, yes. Hugo has a problem with that, but with me around, it’s not a problem at all,” Kiara explained with a smile. “Besides, it’s not like he was wasting his money. They’re just… mismanaged.”
Still, that made everyone even more confused.
All this time, everyone knew Hugo was struggling financially. The man’s pockets were always empty. It wasn’t like they didn’t know Hugo was mismanaging his money. That was the only explanation for why he blew up his savings.
“Kiara, just out of curiosity, and you don’t have to answer…” Grace hummed as she carefully constructed her sentence in her mind. “What was he doing with his money?”
“I don’t think I should say that, but well, basically, Hugo spends it all on feeding stray dogs and cats.”
Everyone: “…”
Kiara smiled. “I learned it on our official date together. We fed the strays. But then, I realized he just buys bulk food for them and drops them off, expecting the strays to collect them and save them till the next ration. So, I suggested he should start an animal shelter instead.”
“So, he’s not broke,” she continued, thinking about how the stray animals just ran at Hugo even when he was still from a distance. And how those stray animals loved him, just as much as he did.
Her smile stretched as she faced everyone. “That’s why I think he’s the richest man I know.”
Financial struggle was a recurring problem for people because, apparently, it was a part of life. But unlike what everyone believed, it wasn’t one of Hugo’s problems. He just had to be a little smarter at it. Then again, Kiara knew that even with her guidance, he would still give his all to these strays… and somehow, she had no problem with that.
“So, that’s why, huh?” Ginnie rocked her head before she chuckled. “For many reasons, I’m not surprised by that at all.”
“If you need any legal help with the shelter, let me know,” Grace winked. “That guy’s a piece of work, but his heart is pure.”
“Thank you,” Kiara expressed. “I enjoy it, though.”
Lily, on the other hand, opened and closed her mouth. Among all of them, she was the one who judged Hugo the most. So, hearing that he wasn’t just splurging his money on some nonsensical stuff shut her up.
As for Penny, she studied Kiara and then shifted her eyes to where her second brother was seated. There, Hugo was eating like there was no tomorrow, with Slater, Zoren, Dean, and Max at the table.
The side of her mouth hooked up as she quietly chuckled, shaking her head and continuing to eat. Kiara was never in their lives before, but well… Penny just hoped for the best for her second brother and Kiara.
After all, Hugo had “scammed” someone who was not only beautiful and smart but also had the same pure heart as he had.
