Online Game: I Started with Max Charisma and Caught the Goddess's Eye
Chapter 420 - 420: The Unexpected Double ThreatAfter calming the dispute between Nova and Donlow, Luca finally decided to take the lead. He took the lantern from Nova’s hand.
With that, the three of them proceeded down the passage.
Eventually, they reached a vast cavern.
Above them, a bluish-green light flickered, as if something was emanating from there. The bluish-green glow illuminated the cavern to some extent, allowing Luca and the others to see the details of the area.
At the far end of the cavern, Congressman Devitt was slumped on a massive stone throne.
“You’ve finally arrived!” Devitt’s cold voice echoed through the cavern.
As they had planned, Luca, Nova, and Donlow attacked without hesitation.
Luca charged forward with the Starseeker, moving at lightning speed toward Devitt. Nova, without a second thought, fired her gun in his direction. Donlow, hidden in the shadows, moved swiftly, coordinating with Luca’s assault.
The trio moved so quickly that Devitt barely had time to finish speaking before their attacks reached him.
However, Luca, who was the first to arrive at Devitt’s position, quickly realized that his attack had been blocked by an invisible transparent barrier.
“Wait! This might be another trap! We shouldn’t have attacked so recklessly!” Luca, realizing the danger, swiftly retreated.
Nova and Donlow also saw the signs and stopped their attacks.
“See? You’re all fools. You went through so much trouble to find me, but what does it matter? You’re just here to die,” Devitt said as he slowly rose from his seat.
At the same time, numerous vines began to crawl out from the base of the stone throne.
In an instant, Luca activated the flame magic runes. A barrage of flames appeared, incinerating the advancing vines, and a fire wall was created to block their attack.
“If that’s all the power you have, then I can safely say it’s you who are going to die, not us,” Luca said coldly.
Devitt chuckled.
“You still don’t realize that the two people beside you each have their own little schemes, do you?”
He glanced at Nova, then turned his gaze to Donlow.
Luca’s expression remained unchanged.
Devitt was Luca’s greatest enemy, and of course, he wouldn’t believe a word coming from his greatest enemy.
“You’re still being kept in the dark! The people from Zenith Technology Company are using you, and the people from Morning Star are using you as well. Since they’re both using you, why not cooperate with me instead?”
Devitt finally revealed his true intentions. After a series of battles, he had come to realize that Luca’s strength far exceeded his expectations. So, he decided to try and win Luca over.
“Oh? The Via Empire wants to cooperate with me? I don’t think I have that kind of qualification. Isn’t your Via Empire still trying to conquer the entire Eternal Continent?” Luca couldn’t help but mock him.
Although Luca didn’t know much about the Via Empire, he was well aware of its ambitions. The Via Empire was the most expansionist force on the Eternal Continent, constantly clashing with other nations, including Sophia’s homeland.
At that moment, Sophia’s voice appeared in Luca’s mind.
“Don’t believe a word he says. The lawmakers of the Via Empire are master con artists. Every word they speak is a lie!”
Luca didn’t need Sophia’s reminder to know he couldn’t trust Devitt.
“Looks like you won’t cooperate with us, Via Empire, after all,” Devitt coughed twice, asking.
“Cooperation is possible, as long as you first hand over your life to me. Then, I might consider cooperating with the Via Empire.” Luca pointed the blade of the Starseeker directly at Devitt.
“Ha, you really are humorous!” Devitt chuckled. “Such a shame. I wasn’t planning to do this.”
In an instant, his body was swiftly ensnared by massive vines. A giant tree made of vines suddenly sprouted from the ground. Its roots stretched deep underground.
With a loud crash, a massive crack appeared in the cavern floor, and a large number of monsters poured out from the fissure. All of these monsters carried the aura of Zenobia.
Luca’s expression changed drastically. He realized the unprecedented threat.
“Now you’re starting to be afraid, huh? But it’s a little too late! I’ve already made a deal with that great being. Now, let her deal with you!”
More and more monsters poured out of the crack in the ground, gathering together until they eventually formed a twisted, grotesque creature. The main body of the monster resembled a giant slug, covered in the limbs of various other monsters. At the top of the slug’s body was a massive head that belonged to Zenobia.
“Luca, we finally meet!” Zenobia’s voice rang out, full of madness and hatred. “This time, I won’t let you escape so easily!”
Immediately, a powerful curse filled the entire cavern.
Both Nova and Donlow were heavily affected. They could barely hold onto their own consciousness.
Luca, although resistant to Zenobia’s attacks, still felt immense pain from the overwhelming curse.
“Escape? I don’t plan to run away so easily!” Luca gritted his teeth. “Your power is not fully restored, and neither is Devitt’s. Even facing a double threat, I still have a chance of winning.”
He had made his decision—he would fight to win this battle. If he chose to flee now, Zenobia and Devitt would have more time to recover. After that, the threats he would face would be even greater.
With resolve, Luca charged toward Zenobia, wielding the enhanced Starseeker. He slammed the sword into the giant slug’s body, and Zenobia let out a painful scream. She continuously swung various limbs at Luca, trying to attack.
However, these attacks had little effect on Luca. As he launched his assault, he had also activated the interaction magic runes.
While Luca was fighting Zenobia, Devitt turned his attention to Nova and Donlow.
Nova was the first to recover from the curse. Without hesitation, she deployed the drones she had brought with her. These drones were somewhat resistant to the chaotic energy, and they could use physical attacks to disrupt Devitt’s movements.
Although the drones didn’t pose a significant threat to Devitt, they at least helped to stall him.
“You dare try to restrain me with these little toys?” Devitt sneered coldly. “It seems your strategy is not all that impressive after all!”
At this point, he had absorbed a massive amount of chaotic energy. His tree-like body, made of vines, began to emit a purple glow. Devitt used these purple lights to cast powerful spells.
Facing Devitt’s mockery, Nova didn’t respond at all. She was simply observing the entire battlefield.
Luca and Zenobia were evenly matched. Although Zenobia appeared to have the upper hand in terms of sheer size, this advantage was primarily due to the enormous form she had taken. However, Nova knew that Zenobia didn’t consider herself a match for Devitt. Even with Donlow’s help, they couldn’t defeat him.
So, Nova quickly called out to Luca.
“The situation is extremely unfavorable for us! I think we should retreat for now!”
Naturally, Luca didn’t agree with Nova’s suggestion. But before he could speak, Donlow coldly interrupted.
“If you want to retreat, then go ahead. I’ll fight with Luca until the very end!”
Although Donlow had been the last to recover, once she regained her senses, she immediately joined the battle. Using the cover of shadows, she swiftly moved to Devitt’s side. Before he could react, she raised her powerful longsword and struck at his tree-like body.
Devitt let out a scream of pain.
At the same time, numerous vines trembled violently.
Donlow’s attack had been more effective than anyone had expected, far beyond what Luca and Nova had anticipated.
“This weapon in my hand isn’t as simple as it looks,” Donlow said, displaying the longsword she was holding. It appeared quite ordinary and emitted no special aura.
Yet, this simple weapon had caused significant damage to Devitt.
Luca and Nova were both somewhat surprised, though they didn’t dwell on it for long. They saw this as the perfect opportunity to press the attack.
Nova immediately grabbed her custom handgun and fired several rounds at the tree-like figure made of vines. The bullets in her specialized gun had been specially treated. Each round was designed specifically to target Devitt.
With Nova and Donlow working together, Devitt quickly began to fall behind in the battle.
Meanwhile, on the other front, Zenobia’s power was also starting to wane.
Zenobia’s true form was not here, meaning that the massive slug-like monster needed other monsters to continuously feed it chaotic energy.
During the battle, Luca prioritized eliminating the monsters surrounding Zenobia. This prevented her from receiving the chaotic energy provided by the monsters.
The tide of the battle began to shift in favor of Luca and his companions.
“You’re certainly strong, but if you think you can defeat me in this battle, that’s absolutely impossible!” Devitt roared angrily.
Then, under everyone’s watch, a massive number of vines burrowed into the ground, and Devitt’s tree-like body suddenly vanished from sight.
