Chapter 6009 Instigator

“The Brahma Pill Valley? An arrest warrant?” Long Chen sneered.

Just hearing the phrase “arrest warrant” made him want to laugh.

The one who had blurted it out was a female Sovereign sprout. She instantly turned red with embarrassment. The two city lords and the other disciples were all glaring at her.

She had spoken without thinking. Long Chen had just saved their lives, so how could she say something like that now? It was far too disrespectful.

Realizing her mistake, she was about to apologize when Long Chen calmly said, “It’s true they’ve issued an arrest warrant for me. You were just speaking the truth—nothing wrong with that.”

Turning to Weng Jinnan, Long Chen asked. “Senior, how is it that Brightmoon City has ended up isolated and under siege? Why were you attacked?”

“It’s a long story. If Dean Long Chen isn’t in a hurry, I’d be honored to explain everything once we’re inside the city,” Weng Jinnan replied respectfully.

He knew more about Long Chen than most. At the very least, he knew Long Chen’s other identity—as the youngest dean in High Firmament Academy’s history.

“Senior is too polite. Just call me Long Chen. I happen to have a few questions for you as well. Let’s have a good chat,” said Long Chen with a smile.

Hearing that Long Chen was willing to enter their city, they felt a swell of pride. Hosting someone like Long Chen was a tremendous honor for Brightmoon City.

“Please!”

Weng Jinnan personally led Long Chen into the city. Meanwhile, the other city lord quickly gave an order: the heads of the four enemy Sovereign Lords were to be hung on the city walls, their headless corpses displayed at the four corners.

Once they entered the city, everyone inside the city cheered. Some citizens even dropped to their knees and kowtowed in gratitude. They knew their lives had been saved by this man.

Faced with their heartfelt reverence and sincere gazes, a warmth spread through Long Chen’s chest. There was still hope for the human race. There were still people who understood reverence, who knew how to be thankful. There were still warriors who dared to face death head-on. These were the true backbone of humanity.

Long Chen was led into the central palace, where only the two city lords and a dozen or so Sovereign sprouts were permitted in.

These Sovereign sprouts were the strongest among Brightmoon City’s younger generation. But in front of Long Chen, these prideful geniuses were like timid little brothers and sisters, looking at him with starry-eyed admiration.

They had personally witnessed Long Chen obliterate the enemy army with a single strike. Even four Sovereign Lords working together couldn’t withstand him. How could they not be awestruck?

Young cultivators always revered strength. Or rather, they idolized absolute power—the might to protect what they held dear.

Being invited into the palace alongside such a legendary figure, they were beyond excited. Some shifted nervously on their feet, unsure of how to act in front of someone like Long Chen.

Originally, the city lords had planned to accompany Long Chen alone. However, the opportunity for these children to interact with such a peerless genius was too rare. Thus, they allowed the children to come as well. The city lords were initially worried that Long Chen might be displeased. But to their surprise, Long Chen didn’t mind their presence. In fact, he seemed to welcome it, which allowed the city lords to relax.

Seeing how nervous those disciples were, Long Chen smiled and patted one young man on the shoulder.

Long Chen said, “You all faced an unstoppable army without flinching. You stood tall in the face of death. What’s there to be afraid of now?”

That young man was immediately overwhelmed. He couldn’t even get a word out.

The tense atmosphere immediately softened. Everyone sat together casually, without worrying about rank or seniority.

After a few courteous words, Long Chen got straight to the point. He had only been in Sovereign Mountain for less than a month, so how had the outside world changed so drastically?

Weng Jinnan started to explain. During this period, the ten thousand races had begun to move. They launched a full-scale assault, invading and seizing the human race’s territories and resources, leaving behind mountains of corpses and rivers of blood.

Countless sects and clans were destroyed. The assault came like a bolt from the blue, sudden and devastating.

Though the human race had long known that chaos was coming, they had assumed it would arrive gradually, once the current generation of heavenly geniuses advanced to the Human Emperor realm.

No one had expected the devil race, Blood race, demon race, and countless other races to attack the human race’s territory in unison. The smaller factions were directly slaughtered.

Even mid-tier sects were drenched in blood. Some were completely destroyed. While others managed to survive, it was just barely. They were so badly wounded that they could only take what they could and seek asylum with a stronger faction.

Only the strongest sects and factions possessed the ability to protect themselves. But even they were overwhelmed, barely managing to hold their ground. They didn’t have the luxury of looking after others. Too many races were attacking the human race right now, and even they couldn’t make an enemy of all the ten thousand races.

With two Sovereign Lords overseeing it, Brightmoon City was considered a respectable ancient force in the human domain. But even they weren’t spared.

Once they were targeted, several larger factions came to say that they wished to join forces with them or offer protection. But in truth, they were looking to swallow Brightmoon City whole, demanding they surrender their resources and send their top talents away to their factions.

Even the Brahma Pill Valley extended “invitations” multiple times, but these were invitations in name only. In reality, they were threats.

They had said that if Brightmoon City didn’t join the Brahma line, not only would they receive no aid, but the Brahma Pill Valley would also use its influence to prevent other factions from helping them.

But Brightmoon City was an ancient stronghold, its lineage unbroken for countless years. Their faith lay with their ancestors, so how could they switch allegiances so easily? Would that not be a betrayal?

So they rejected Brahma Pill Valley outright. As for the other factions pretending to seek cooperation while plotting to take advantage of them, Brightmoon City cursed them to their faces and drove them off.

Brightmoon City would rather shatter as jade than survive as trash. They prepared to fight to the death.

Brightmoon City had sent out pleas for aid to former allies and factions with good reputations, offering generous compensation. But whether those groups were too embattled to help or had been pressured by the Brahma line to stay silent, no one knew. In any case, they never received any reply.

And so Brightmoon City steeled itself for war, ready to stand alone.

If Long Chen hadn’t arrived, they had planned to lure the enemy deep into the city and detonate the grand formation, taking their enemies down with them.

As Long Chen listened, his expression gradually sank.

“Damn Lord Brahma! You dogshit instigator!” he cursed.
