Energy poured out of the enormous channel, and the Ten Thousand Dragon Nest floating in front of it was shaking from this immense output.
“What pure Heavenly Doyen energy…” said Tang Wan-er.
She was delighted to sense this energy. Since their enemies had retreated, all this energy was theirs.
“Long Chen, you have dragon blood power, so you should be able to activate the Ten Thousand Dragon Nest. Go see how Gu Yang and the others are,” suggested Tang Wan-er.
Long Chen nodded and patted Wilde’s shoulder. He said, “Wilde, stay here with big sister Wan-er. I’ll go take a look.”
Wilde hesitated, his reluctance evident in his wide eyes. He didn’t want Long Chen out of his sight.
Sensing his unease, Tang Wan-er quickly stepped in. “Wilde, don’t worry. Long Chen will be back soon. He’s not leaving for long.”
Hearing this, Wilde relaxed and smiled innocently.
“That’s right, Wilde, do you have enough rations?” asked Long Chen suddenly.
Wilde was unlike anyone else—he couldn’t afford an empty stomach. Once hunger set in, his combat strength would plummet, and prolonged starvation would force him into hibernation.“I’m running a bit low, but it’ll last for a while,” Wilde replied, opening the peculiar sack at his waist.
The moment Long Chen and Tang Wan-er looked inside, they shivered. It was packed with rank-five Divine Emperors and above.
There were devil beasts, demonic beasts, as well as some lifeforms that Long Chen didn’t recognize, over a hundred in total.
This sack was called the Universe Pocket, and it was created with a specific spatial demonic beast’s hide. These mountain-sized beasts were as small as chicken eggs inside of it.
Over a hundred high-ranking beasts were only enough to last him for a bit? Wilde’s energy consumption was truly shocking.
Relieved that Wilde was well-stocked, Long Chen told him to listen to Tang Wan-er before turning to the Ten Thousand Dragon Nest.
With his dragon blood power, Long Chen activated the barrier and stepped inside.
The moment he entered, his gaze landed on Gu Yang, Li Qi, Song Mingyuan, Guo Ran, Xia Chen, and the Dragonblood warriors. Seated cross-legged, they were enveloped in divine light, their eyes shut in deep meditation. Long Chen scanned the area with his divine sense and soon located the Dragon Domain’s experts.
To his shock, all of the Dragon Domain’s experts were lying on the ground in a complete mess, their faces as pale as paper. Their bloodline power had been sucked dry, and they looked to be on the verge of death.
“What happened?!” asked Long Chen, shocked.
“I guided them here to draw out the Emperor reverse scale from below. But doing so comes at a cost,” the voice of the primal chaos Dragon Sovereign echoed in his mind.
“The cost of their lives?” Long Chen asked, aghast.
“This is a trial,” the Dragon Sovereign replied calmly. “If they lack the courage to sacrifice everything, how can they hope to wield the Emperor reverse scale’s power?”
Long Chen’s heart shook. It seemed that the Dragon Sovereign was not satisfied with its descendants, so it was extremely harsh with them. If they didn’t pass this trial, it wouldn’t let them get any benefits from the Emperor reverse scale.
“At the start, I gave them a choice: sacrifice their blood soul and life energy to aid the Dragonblood Legion, or leave and forge their own path,” said the Dragon Sovereign.
“Senior, isn’t that a bit too cruel?” Long Chen asked, his smile bitter.
For cultivators, blood soul and life energy formed their foundation. Depleting such vital forces could permanently hinder their cultivation, potentially locking their realms or even causing regression.
To any genius, it was a fate worse than death.
From the appearances of Mo Yang, Chi Wufeng, and the other powerful heavenly geniuses of the Dragon Domain, Long Chen knew that their energy had been drained completely. Essentially, they had used their own lives to help the Dragonblood Legion. Long Chen’s anger flared at the sight.
“The Dragon Domain’s disciples have exhausted their blood soul power and life energy to activate the Emperor reverse scale’s bloodline power. In other words, the Ten Thousand Dragon Nest is sustaining their lives for now. But this is only the beginning. To fully awaken the Emperor reverse scale, the Dragonblood Legion must exhaust their wills and dragon soul energy. They’re drained too—but this is a great opportunity for them,” explained the Dragon Sovereign.
“A huge opportunity? If Wilde didn’t show up, we would have all died!” exclaimed Long Chen.
“Your predicament is your own doing,” the Dragon Sovereign retorted. “When you defeated Hou Tianwu and Xue Yingfeng appeared, the odds were already stacked against you. Instead of fighting them smartly, you stubbornly exhausted yourself battling them one by one. You didn’t even use the Six Horn Fiend Fly when you should have.”
Long Chen winced, unable to refute the accusation. He had refrained from summoning his trump card out of sheer pride, unwilling to rely on it against opponents in his realm.
So, by the time he changed his mind, he had drained his bloodline power and Spiritual Strength, leaving him incapable of activating the curse art controlling it.
If Wilde hadn’t come, he really might have died. To use the Primal Chaos Dragon Sovereign’s words, today’s matter was entirely caused by his own foolishness.
“Fine, I admit I was an idiot. But you know my soul harbors a stubborn will that won’t let me back down,” Long Chen grumbled.
The Dragon Sovereign ignored his complaint. “The Emperor reverse scale is awakening and exudes its core energy. Their empty bodies are perfectly suited to absorb this energy. Out with the old, in with the new—it will transform them completely.”
“Many thanks, senior,” Long Chen sighed.
Long Chen finally understood the Dragon Sovereign’s intentions and felt bad about accusing it wrongfully.
“Previously, Gu Yang wanted to use the Ten Thousand Dragon Nest’s power to recuperate, but I stopped him. Not only did you not recover, but the Ten Thousand Dragon Nest also drained your remaining energy. Now, you have two choices. You can let them absorb the Emperor reverse scale’s power right now, or you can let them continue to stay in this state. When the Emperor reverse scale truly awakens, you can let them absorb a core energy a hundred times purer than this.”
“Of course, we’ll wait for the purer energy,” Long Chen said without hesitation.
“However, at that time, everyone will enter this space. All your enemies will be there. Are you sure you can protect your allies all the time?” said the Earth Cauldron.
“I…” Long Chen was instantly left at a loss for words.
