Myth Beyond Heaven

Chapter 2918 - 2918: Grand Palace of Origin (3)

The moment Yun Lintian’s group crossed the threshold, the oppressive weight of the palace’s temporal energy vanished. The room was eerily calm, its air still and undisturbed.

A long table dominated the center, surrounded by ornate chairs. The walls bore faded murals of celestial beings, their details blurred by age yet still radiating an ancient dignity.

Linlin’s ears twitched. “No time fluctuations here… just like the safe zone in the Garden of the Lost Souls.”

Qingqing fluttered around the room, her tiny hands brushing against the furniture. “It’s safe!”

Yun Lintian’s gaze swept across the chamber. His Eyes of Heaven detected no traps, no hidden dangers—just an unnatural stillness, as if this place existed outside the palace’s normal flow.

Tang Wei drifted toward the table, his form shimmering with recognition. “This is indeed the original reception chamber.”

Long Qingxuan’s fingers traced the edge of a chair. “A sanctuary.”

Yun Lintian approached the table and placed his palm on its surface.

Buzz!

A beam of golden light erupted, projecting a three-dimensional map above the table. A red dot marked their current position, while shifting golden lines outlined the palace’s ever-changing pathways.

“A map?” Yun Lintian murmured.

Long Chen stepped forward, his eyes widening. “It is indeed the map.”

Xiong Ba frowned. “But it keeps changing!”

Indeed, the map shifted every few breaths, corridors twisting and rooms vanishing only to reappear elsewhere.

Ling Xuan studied it intently. “The palace is alive. It rearranges itself to confuse intruders… How should we navigate then?”

Long Chen frowned deeply as he studied the shifting projection. His fingers twitched as if trying to grasp the ever-changing pathways.

“This… isn’t the same as the map we saw on the tablet,” he said suddenly, turning to Yun Lintian.

Yun Lintian’s gaze remained fixed on the holographic display. Without a doubt, there was nothing resembling the layout from the ancient stone tablet.

Long Chen continued, his voice thoughtful, “The tablet’s map must have been of the inner palace. This one only shows the outer halls.”

The group fell silent, considering this revelation. The implications were clear—they had only partial information.

Then, Qian Jinglei spoke up, her tone measured. “Is communication possible within this palace? If so… someone could remain here and guide the others using the map.”

Nie Tong’s frost energy flickered in agreement. “It’s feasible. The safe zone would protect the guide from temporal disturbances.”

Xiong Yu grunted. “We can test it now.”

All eyes turned to Yun Lintian.

“You can try.” Yun Lintian responded. Although he could force his way through the hall, this method was much more safer.

Long Chen immediately stepped forward. “I’ll—”

“No.” Qian Jinglei cut him off sharply, her hand gripping his shoulder. “Too dangerous.”

Long Chen met his master’s gaze steadily. “I’ll be fine, Master. The safe zone is stable.”

Before Qian Jinglei could protest further, Long Chen had already retrieved a voice transmission jade from his spatial ring. He pressed it into Yun Lintian’s palm.

“I’ll contact you through this, Senior.” Long Chen spoke up.

Yun Lintian nodded slightly.

Without hesitation, Long Chen turned around and walked out of the room.

“Wait. Let me go with you.” Qian Jinglei quickly followed her disciple out.

The corridor outside was different now—the walls pulsed with a sickly crimson light, veins of corruption spreading like spiderwebs.

“It changed again.” Long Chen muttered.

“Be careful.” Qian Jinglei said.

“Let’s go, Master.” Long Chen spoke up and took a step forward, distancing himself from the door.

Qian Jinglei walked by his side, her divine sense fully activated.

After walking for a hunred meters, Long Chen took the transmission jade out and began to contact Yun Lintian. “Senior, can you hear me?”

Yun Lintian’s voice came through the jade crystal clear: “I hear you.”

On the side, Ling Xuan’s eyes lit up. “It works!”

Relief washed over Long Chen’s face. He turned to Qian Jinglei. “Master, we should return—”

SCREECH!

The walls screamed.

Black liquid erupted from the ceiling, coalescing into dozens of Temporal Phantoms—their forms flickering between past and present, claws dripping with corruption.

Qian Jinglei moved like lightning. A slender sword materialized in her hand as she slashed horizontally.

Whoosh!

A crescent of sword energy cleaved through the first wave of phantoms. At the same time, her left hand shoved Long Chen backward.

“Run back to the chamber!”

But Long Chen planted his feet, stubbornly drawing his own sword. “I won’t leave you!”

Qian Jinglei’s eyes burned with fury as she parried three phantom strikes in rapid succession. “Foolish boy! GO!”

The horde pressed closer. Even a True God like Qian Jinglei was being forced back step by step.

Then—

Bang!

The chamber door swung outward.

Yun Lintian stepped through, his mismatched eyes blazing gold. Without a word, he raised his left hand—

“Reverse.”

Silver light erupted, washing over the phantoms. Their forms unraveled, their very existence rewinding until they vanished like smoke.

Silence fell.

Qian Jinglei lowered her sword, breathing heavily. Long Chen’s knuckles were white around his hilt.

“Thank you, Senior Yun,” Qian Jinglei said solemnly.

Long Chen bowed deeply. “This junior is grateful for Senior’s timely assistance.”

Yun Lintian simply nodded. “Come in.”

The moment they re-entered the reception hall, the door sealed itself again.

The group gathered around the glowing map, its golden pathways still shifting unpredictably. The successful communication test had proven their theory—but now came the difficult question.

“Who will stay behind?” Long Chen asked bluntly.

Silence fell.

Xiong Ba, Xiong Yu, Nie Tong—their eyes darted between each other, none willing to speak first. Staying meant safety, but also missing the palace’s treasures.

Then—

“I’ll stay.”

Ling Xuan’s voice cut through the tension. She stepped forward, her expression calm.

Nie Tong’s frost energy spiked instantly. “Absolutely not.”

Xiong Ba smirked. “What, scared to go deeper? Need me to keep you company?”

Long Chen’s eyes turned icy. “Watch your mouth.” Before anyone could react, he added, “I’ll stay with her.”

Qian Jinglei sighed. Her gaze swept over the stubborn faces before settling on her disciple. “Chen’er…”

Long Chen met his master’s eyes. “Master, I—”

“Enough.” Qian Jinglei’s voice brooked no argument. “I will stay.”

“Master!”

“Elder Qian!”

Both Long Chen and Ling Xuan protested immediately, but Qian Jinglei raised a hand.

“The one who stays is the safest,” she said firmly. “Since none of you are willing, this master will take responsibility.”

She turned to Long Chen, her expression softening slightly. “Stick close to Senior Yun. Do not act recklessly.”

Long Chen’s jaw tightened, but he bowed deeply. “…Yes, Master.”

Nie Tong studied Qian Jinglei for a long moment before nodding. “Wise choice.”

Xiong Yu simply grunted, clearly relieved he wouldn’t be missing out.

Yun Lintian, who had been silently observing, finally spoke. “Prepare to move.”
