“I’ve used Chaos before,” Yun Lintian said, recalling his battles against the creatures of the void. “It worked well against those abominations.”
Qing Yun’s expression turned solemn. “Nian Shi has mastered Chaos far beyond your current understanding. He’s wielded it across countless timelines for eons.” She stepped closer, her emerald eyes piercing. “To defeat him, you must reach at least his level—full comprehension of both Great Laws.”
Yun Lintian clenched his fists. The memory of Nian Shi’s overwhelming presence during their last encounter flashed through his mind. The Time God hadn’t even fought seriously, yet had effortlessly rewound reality itself.
“Understood.”
He sat cross-legged beneath the remnants of the Heartwood Grove, the shared Tree of Life connection pulsing steadily in his Divine Core. The newly acquired technique—Breath of the World Tree—hovered in his mind like an unopened treasure.
First, he focused on stabilizing the Life authority.
The emerald energy within him still felt foreign, like a guest rather than master of his Divine Core. He visualized the original Tree’s roots digging deeper, its branches weaving through every meridian.
Not just containing. Becoming.
Linlin and Qingqing stood guard as Qing Yun watched with sharp eyes.
“Don’t force it,” she reminded. “Life flows. Let it.”
Yun Lintian adjusted his approach. Instead of commanding the energy, he invited it—allowing the Tree’s essence to spread naturally through his being.
The effect was immediate.
Where before the Life authority had been a separate current within him, now it began merging seamlessly with his other powers. Darkness coiled around the Tree’s roots like protective shadows. Balance manifested as golden veins in every leaf. River, Mountain, and Sun energies crystallized as dew upon the branches.
A harmonious ecosystem formed within his Divine Core.
Next came the Breath of the World Tree.
Yun Lintian unrolled the mental scroll Qing Yun had given him, absorbing its principles:
“Life borrows but does not steal…
…the wise tree shares with the forest…
…to give is to receive…”
He extended his senses outward. The grove’s remaining plants responded instantly—grasses swaying toward him, flowers tilting their faces like children eager to help.
Borrow, he thought, not take.
A single blade of grass surrendered a wisp of vitality. Then another. Then a hundred.
Emerald energy trickled into him, not as a torrent but as gentle rain. His body hummed with renewed vigor, every cell singing.
Qing Yun nodded approvingly. “Good. Now expand.”
Yun Lintian did.
His awareness rippled outward in concentric circles.
Inside the Grove, every plant contributed willingly. The Forest Beyond, ancient trees stirred from slumber. The Distant Mountains, even stones held trace life energies.
By midnight, he could sense the breath of every living thing within a hundred miles—and borrow fractions of their vitality without harm.
Linlin’s ears twitched. “Big Brother Yun is… glowing.”
Indeed, Yun Lintian’s skin now emitted a soft emerald luminescence, the mark of Life authority stabilizing.
As dawn broke, Yun Lintian opened his eyes. The consolidation was complete—for now.
Qing Yun stood before him, arms crossed. “You’ve taken the first step. But remember—without Death, your Chaos will remain incomplete.”
“I know.” Yun Lintian rose, flexing fingers that now left faint green trails in the air. “Si Junyi and Hei Shou hold the keys.”
Qing Yun’s expression turned grave as she studied Yun Lintian’s newly stabilized power. “Now, let’s talk about Zhan Tian.”
Yun Lintian nodded slowly.
“The War God is unlike the others. In pure combat strength, he stands above all Primordial Gods.” Qing Yun spoke up.
Linlin’s tail bristled. “Even stronger than Nian Shi?”
“In a direct battle? Yes.” Qing Yun replied calmly. “Where Nian Shi manipulates time and Tian Gui enforces order, Zhan Tian embodies war itself. No tricks. No schemes. Just endless, perfected violence.”
Yun Lintian cracked his neck. “Sounds straightforward.”
“It’s not.” Qing Yun’s voice sharpened. “His domain is the Eternal Battlefield—a realm where wars from every warrior converge. To defeat him, you must outfight warriors from countless eras, each technique honed through millennia of slaughter.”
Qingqing fluttered nervously. “What happens if Big Brother Yun loses?”
“He won’t,” Qing Yun said simply. Then, after a beat: “Because if he does, he dies. Zhan Tian doesn’t spare the unworthy.”
A cold wind swept through the grove.
Yun Lintian exhaled sharply. “And if I win?”
“Then his power becomes yours.” Qing Yun’s eyes gleamed. “The War God’s authority doesn’t just grant strength—it reforges your very body. Every cell becomes a weapon. Your bones harder than divine iron, your blood fiercer than dragonfire.”
Linlin whistled. “That’d make Big Brother Yun nearly indestructible.”
“Nearly.” Qing Yun’s gaze locked onto Yun Lintian. “But you’ll need every advantage. Against Zhan Tian, holding back means death. You must fight with everything—Life, Balance, all of it.”
Yun Lintian flexed his hands, feeling the emerald energy coursing through them. “Where is he?”
Qing Yun waved her hand, tearing open a rift in space. Beyond it stretched an endless plain littered with broken weapons and armor from countless eras. The air vibrated with clashing steel and war cries.
“The Eternal Battlefield,” she said. “Time flows differently there. A century of combat here might be an hour outside.”
Yun Lintian stepped forward, then paused. “One question—why would Zhan Tian agree to this? If he’s so strong, why risk his authority?”
Qing Yun smiled faintly. “Because he’s bored. No one has given him a true challenge in eons.” Her expression turned serious. “And because he hates Nian Shi more than any of us. The Time God’s manipulations insult everything War represents.”
That made sense. Yun Lintian nodded and turned to Linlin and Qingqing. “Stay here.”
“No way!” Linlin bounded onto his shoulder.
Qingqing clung to his sleeve. “We go together!”
Yun Lintian opened his mouth to protest when Qing Yun interrupted. “Let them. The War God respects bonds forged in battle. Their presence may help.”
“Alright.” Yun Lintian exhaled slightly.
“Remember. Don’t hold back.” Qing Yun said with a serious expression.
Yun Lintian nodded firmly and took a step forward, disappearing into the rift.
The next moment, Yun Lintian instantly found himself on a massive stone platform floating amidst infinite battlefields. Below him, millions of warriors clashed in perfect formations, their movements so synchronized they seemed like a single organism.
At the platform’s center sat a throne of blackened steel.
On it lounged a mountain of a man, his bare chest crisscrossed with scars that glowed faintly red. A simple iron crown rested on his brow, and across his knees lay an unadorned greatsword.
Zhan Tian, the War God, opened his eyes.
Yun Lintian’s entire body tensed. Those eyes held no pupils—just endless fields of corpses beneath burning skies.
“So.” Zhan Tian’s voice made the platform tremble. “The variable arrives.”
