My Wife Came From A Thousand Years Ago

Chapter 179: Are you brothers and sisters live streaming?

The sound of running water came from the bathroom.

Jiang He sat on the couch, head lowered, fidgeting with her fingers like a child caught doing something wrong.

"It’s already 7:10," Xu Qing said as he came out of the bathroom, his expression a little awkward.

Jiang He’s gaze flicked to him for a brief second before darting away. "So late already?" She suddenly sprang up from the couch and hurried to her computer.

She had no idea how things had spiraled earlier. Only after it was over did she realize that something about their interactions felt... not entirely innocent.

Jiang He stole a glance at Xu Qing, took a deep breath, and muttered to herself as she logged into her game account.

"Youth is the most vibrant and energetic part of society. They are the most eager to learn and the least conservative in their thinking, especially in the socialist era..."

"With knowledge, it’s like standing atop a mountain, seeing far and wide. Without knowledge, it’s like fumbling in the dark, unable to find your way—what misery..."

Xu Qing, puzzled, looked over at her. "What are you mumbling about?"

"N-nothing!"

"Well, I’m not standing today. I’m working on my chainmail."

Xu Qing scratched his nose, not pressing her further. He pulled out his tools and retrieved the standing coat rack from the storeroom. The half-completed armor sleeves hung there, gleaming with a metallic sheen, exuding a sense of weight and craftsmanship.

Neither of them mentioned the earlier incident, though both were clearly thinking about it. Xu Qing, calm but slightly flustered, busied himself bending iron rings, while Jiang He, curious and a little excited, squirmed in her seat.

They needed to calm their nerves.

Xu Qing absentmindedly clinked a few rings together, the rhythmic sound filling the room. He noticed the stream notifications pop up and glanced at the chat—over twenty viewers were waiting. As soon as he started the stream, the chat lit up.

"Finally, he’s here!"

"I thought he bailed on us..."

"Late! Late! Where’s the standing guy?"

Xu Qing waved his pliers at the camera and said casually, "Today, I’ll show you how to handcraft chainmail."

"Whoa?!"

"No standing today?"

"What’s going on?"

"Hey, remember, this is supposed to be a game stream..."

Jiang He glanced at Xu Qing interacting with the viewers, her gaze lingering for a moment before she returned to her duel matches. She wore a silly Christmas hat and wielded a clunky pistol she’d gotten as loot, playing with her signature flashy but inefficient style. Yet today, her moves lacked their usual sharpness.

In her first match, she lost decisively, her female gunslinger swallowed by the opponent’s molten rock skill, her character’s scream marking her defeat. Frustrated, she shoved a piece of dried sweet potato into her mouth and queued for the next match, completely ignoring Xu Qing and the chat’s banter.

Jiang He sighed inwardly. She had become the sidekick—the tool.

"This is an open ring," Xu Qing explained to the viewers, demonstrating as if he were recording a tutorial. "You link four rings together like this, tighten them, and then extend them outward with another four."

The chat grew lively as Xu Qing worked.

Hu Da Tongshu: "Streamer, are you from a family of warriors? Practice martial arts and then put on armor?"

"My grandpa’s grandpa’s grandpa... a whole lot of generations back, was Xu Chu," Xu Qing began, spinning a tale with utmost seriousness. "He left behind a technique called Tiger Fool Boxing. It’s what I was practicing earlier.

"Martial arts start with the waist—the core of all power. Strength begins from the ground, rises through the legs, and is controlled by the waist. With the waist’s looseness, stability, and rotation, energy flows to the shoulders, elbows, wrists, and hands..."

He sounded so convincing that even the viewers were half-sold, though someone in the chat quickly pointed out:

"Wait, isn’t that just Tai Chi theory?"

"All martial arts share the same principles," Xu Qing countered smoothly.

By now, he’d grown skilled enough that he didn’t need to watch his hands constantly. He glanced at Jiang He’s game, then at the chat, effortlessly multitasking.

"Are you two siblings?" a viewer asked.

"We’re a couple. That’s my boyfriend," Jiang He suddenly chimed in, catching the comment in the chat.

"666, but something feels off about this."

"Isn’t it usually the guy gaming and the girl eating snacks or doing something else?"

"This stream’s never been normal! Have you seen another streamer stand still or make armor during a stream?"

Jiang He didn’t reply, fully immersed in her next match. Unfortunately, her bad luck continued—first against a cheater with a blade that slashed like a mad dog, then against a rich player using overpowered nuclear builds. She lost both times.

Her fair feet, clad in slippers, swayed gently beneath the desk. Xu Qing stole a glance, then another, and another—until he caught himself. This is a stream!

He shook off the distraction and checked the viewer count. While crafting chainmail had intrigued the regulars, it wasn’t attracting new viewers. After 30 minutes, he put away his tools and moved the coat rack aside. Stretching his limbs, he began his usual stance training.

"He’s back! The man who stands is back!"

"Zhong Kui, wax statue, maiden—iconic moments return!"

"Can you guys watch me play instead?" Jiang He finally spoke up, crunching on a sweet potato chip.

Sour Yogurt Girl: "I’ve been watching you all along!"

Lan Qiu Da Da Da: "I’m watching both... but you’ve been losing a lot today. Is the rank too high, or are you off your game?"

"I..." Jiang He glanced at Xu Qing, her ears turning slightly red as she forced herself to remain calm. "The rank’s a bit high; I’m still adjusting. I’ll do better next."

Determined, she steadied herself. Before the hour-long stream ended, she managed a five-win streak, finishing amid a flurry of "666" comments.

Relaxing into her chair, Jiang He looked at Xu Qing, who was finishing his stance training. Hugging her knees, she lowered her head, her thoughts drifting. How did things get so awkward?

"Want to watch a movie?" Xu Qing asked.

"No!" Jiang He shook her head violently.

"Fine, no movie. But just so you know, I didn’t wet my pants earlier."

"..."

Jiang He stayed silent, her gaze briefly flicking down before she suddenly stood and dashed back to her room.

Xu Qing sat on the couch, laptop in hand, and opened a new drama to watch. Normal. We’re normal. Nothing weird here.

Jiang He peeked out from her bedroom. "Xu Qing..."

"Want to watch a movie now?"

"No, just... uh..." She hesitated before blurting out, "My shoes..."

"I swear I didn’t do anything weird to your shoes!"

"Why are you shouting?" Jiang He shot him a cautious look before retreating again and shutting the door firmly.

Alone, Xu Qing let out a deep breath. Am I losing IQ points?

Lying on her bed, Jiang He scrolled through her phone, her expression shifting with every passing moment until she finally covered her flushed face with her hands.

What have I done...?
