115 The Dream (4)
(Tom’s PoV)
“The candidate, Thomas Putra Alamsyah, do you have any inquiries regarding your first trial?”
“I do.” I nodded my head firmly. “Where am I? What is it about? What do you mean by trial? Soul Endurance? How do you know me? I don’t know what you’re talking about and I don’t know any of you. Could you, please, explain it to me?”
The man smiled patiently at me. “We know what we want to know. Nothing in this world can hide anything from us as long as we want to know something; except God wishes it to be hidden. We have our ways and means and you’ll know about it if you’re one of us later. You don’t need to know us now, but we will get to know each other as time flies.”
Why do I feel like this man is saying cheesy lines?
“About Soul Endurance, as long as you’re able to maintain your sanity after the trial we’re about to give to you, then you’ll pass the test. You will not be the only one to have this trial, but each one of you will have different situation and approach on how you deal with pressure. I only wish you the best for your trial.” He said calmly.
I waited for him to continue but he just smiled. Is that all? He didn’t even answer all of my questions!
The man, Sir Ahmad Ismail I assumed, had been staring at me in amusement, but he also didn’t say anything.
“Well, off you go! I’ll see you when the trial has ended.” The man waved his hand and I felt my consciousness turned blurry and the floating feeling came again.
.....
When I opened my eyes, I had returned to my room in the hospital.
Was it a dream?
I wiped my face with my palm, it’s good if it was just a dream. It’s good. It must be because I met with those ghosts before I fell asleep that I had such a bizarre dream.
I looked at the tightly closed curtain. It seemed like it’s still dark outside. I couldn’t see any lights other than the ones that were from my own room and the corridor behind the door. It looked like I still had some time to sleep.
As I was thinking like that, my eyes gradually fluttered closed. I could feel the slight feeling of being swayed and floating, but I was still conscious. I knew it was the sign that I was getting deeper in my sleep. It would only take some time before I finally fell asleep for real.
In the midst of falling asleep deeper, between dream and reality, my ears caught sharp sound of metal being drawn. Before I could react to find out the source of the sound, sharp pain hit my body as a cold and long object was being stabbed into my chest.
I gasped for air loudly as my eyes flew opened in horror.
What was that?
I checked my chest and breathed in relief as I felt it still intact with no wounds or blood in sight. Cold sweat started to wet my temples.
It was just a dream. I sighed.
Luckily, it was just a dream. But, the pain was so real it still lingered in my mind.
I tried to shake the bad thought from my mind and tried to sleep again.
Again, I felt the same feeling before I felt into deep sleep.
And then, two blades were penetrated into my body, each was sunk deep in my shoulders as my throat growled in pain. Blood spurted from the fresh wound on my shoulders and I could feel my arms trembled in pain.
My eyes flew opened again. My breath ragged and cold sweat was practically drenching my whole body. I turned my head to see my own shoulders to notice that they were fine without any wounds or blood on it. The patient gown I was wearing didn’t even show a bit of abnormal crease on the shoulders part, a proof that I didn’t even move that much.
One dream of being stabbed was probably just an inadvertence.
But, twice? I began to have my own suspicion.
The lingering and non-existent pain from the previous dream haunted my sleep as I refused to close my eyes. I tried to think the possibility that might exist because of my two dreams, but I couldn’t find anything.
As I was too serious in thinking, I unknowingly closed my eyes to help me focus on one suspicious topic.
In the end, I fell asleep accidentally, only to be waken up by three daggers being thrown at me fast. Each of it stabbed my right chest, my right thigh, and my left abdomen.
I really wanted to howl in pain as my body went rigid from pain. My breath hitched in my throat and even if my eyes had flown opened, the pain didn’t subsided.
Only after I tasted it, I knew the word of ‘terror’.
Whatever it was, I was sure my dream was not normal. No matter what the reason was, those dreams were not normal!
No, I can’t fall asleep! I can’t fall asleep!
I slapped my cheeks twice to get rid of the sleepiness that started to hit me. In usual situation, this kind of dream would make my sleepiness went away until morning, but how do I still feel sleepy even after being terrorized by that scary dream?
I would rather dream about ugly ghost than being tortured like this, especially where I could still feel the pain inflicted in me.
But, I was sure this dream was not normal.
I can’t fall asleep! I made a resolute decision.
