My SSS-Rank Class Is Blood Monarch!

Chapter 374 - 374- God's Gate (Part 12)

‘I can’t touch it, or it could spread to me. It looks like it has a consciousness of its own. Is it some type of fungus or bacteria?’ Arthur asked himself as he looked closely at the substance with his sharp eyes.

This was the first time he had ever seen anything like this, and it gave him immense discomfort just being that close to it. The image of this black matter taking over the man’s body as he was suffocated slowly and ruthlessly was up there with the worst things he had to witness with his own eyes.

It made him feel completely powerless even though the substance itself didn’t even look threatening. However, Arthur knew that it could easily take over his body and then what could happen was simply a nightmare.

So, even though he was desperate to figure out how he could get the man out of it, he didn’t rush or panic. Panicking would only make him make mistakes in a situation that required no mistakes.

Several minutes passed, and Arthur kept trying to come up with any idea to get rid of the black substance. He tried it poking it with his sword but the substance absorbed the hit and then filled te hole left behind. He then tried to just burn it, freeze it, or even hack it till he could at least separate it. But that also didn’t work.

The more his attempts failed the more frustrated he got over the situation.

“Dammit! I lost a man because of this!! Dammit!!” He cursed loudly as he slammed his fist on the ground. His teeth were tightly clenched, and his knuckles were protruding from his hand.

‘What can I even do?’ His eyes moved to a particular group of people standing at the far, crying audibly. The man’s wife and children were unable to understand what was happening. Yet, they understood that they had just lost their loved one.

Seeing the children confused and sad, Arthur felt even worse for not being able to save him. It felt like a huge boulder had just fallen on his shoulders, threatening to crush him.

That was the very first time Arthur experienced the bad side of being a leader… To lose one of your followers. The feelings of guilt and regret came from realizing that he could’ve done something to save that person.

Putting his hand on his chest, Arthur closed his eyes as he took in that feeling. It was bound to happen, and he thought he was mentally ready for it, but when it happened, he felt the suffocation of a life weighing on his mind.

‘I already lost one person, and I will possibly lose more. I can’t let this phase me.’ Taking a deep breath, he was about to stand again while he opened his inventory to check his storage. At that moment, he saw something that made him stop.

He blinked with a blank expression as an idea struck his head out of nowhere. A last possibility that came from the depths of his mind upon seeing it.

“That… I had that the entire time!” He exclaimed as he tapped the slot, making the object appear in his hand. The shiny shard manifested gracefully into the world, immediately giving light to its surroundings.

“Huh?”

All the people around Arthur immediately noticed the shard, and their faces shifted completely.

“GAHAVVAG…!!”

“Huh?” Arthur frowned as he noticed the commotion. All the people around him, with no exception, stared at the orb.

‘Wait, stare?’ Arthur frowned. ‘They can’t see this shard, can they?’

However, the way their eyes were dazedly looking at the shard, it didn’t feel like they couldn’t see it.

“S-Sir…”

At that moment, he heard Germa’s wavering voice, which made him turn around. That was when he saw the pure shock on the man’s face. That was the first time the man had such an expression. It was as if he had just seen a ghost.

“What? Wait, Germa… Can you see this shard?” He asked with a frown.

“I-I can… see? It’s a strong thing… I want to squint my eyes.” The man tried to find the words to describe the feeling but due to the fact he had never seen a light before, he didn’t know how to describe it.

“How…?” Arthur muttered as his eyes moved between the man and the shard. “Are you all able to see the shard?!” He asked as he lifted the orb in the air, and everyone’s eyes chased it as if it was the only thing they could truly see… and that was indeed the case.

Many pointed their fingers as they screamed loudly, while others looked confused and afraid. They never expected their first instance of seeing would come so unexpectedly. Their minds couldn’t handle this experience.

“What the hell?” The boy watched that scene, unable to make up his mind. “Why can they see the Divine Shard?”

Although the shard itself emanated a very pure white light, it still should’ve never reached those people at all.

‘Wait, could it be?’ At that moment, Arthur remembered what Germa had told him earlier. That story of the man who came back alive from the island and the words he said.

“God’s… Light?”

This entire time, Arthur had no idea what God’s Light meant, but the moment he looked at the shard, he had a small idea.

“Could that light be this…?” He asked himself, still uncertain. ‘I mean, this does explain how that man could see and why he said those words. It could be he saw something related to the Divine Shard.’

“What is that, sir?”

“It’s… It’s a divine object I have found before. It could help get rid of this black substance.” Arthur replied as he looked down. ‘This… This could do something.’

Arthur’s entire bet was the Divine nature of the shard and how it could react toward something so dark and vile like this black substance. Something so pure and divine against something so evil and malicious… One could only imagine what kind of reaction would happen if these two sides got close.

So, with that in mind, Arthur slowly lowered the Divine Shard to the dark substance. His face was dark with anticipation.

Then, it happened.

*SIZZLE*

The moment the light of the shard grew close to the black substance, a loud sizzling sound started emanating from it. It sounded like meat being grilled on a hot pan, and the sound only grew worse.

Then, Arthur noticed the black substance immediately trying to get farther and farther away from the light as if it was afraid of it.

‘It’s working!’ Arthur’s eyes flashed with a sharp glint as he immediately stretched his arm forward, burning the substance ruthlessly.

“Die… Die!”

Slowly and gruesomly, the light disintegrated the black substance. The matter tried to resist or even escape, but the light ate it like a hungry beast. In a matter of seconds, the interior of that black shell started opening, and Arthur could peek inside.

‘Just a little bit more!’
