My Girlfriend is a Zombie

Chapter 890: This Is Just a Ranch

The little boy… or rather the little girl screamed for a full minute before Ling Mo managed to completely cover her mouth. During this time, there was a crackling noise overhead, along with a faintly arrogant howl… this resulted in the gestation pods changing direction, and even the butcher’s roar gradually faded away.

“I’m warning you…” Ling Mo, panting, glared at the little girl and said in a low voice, “If you dare to scream again, I’ll…”

“I’m not afraid of you!” the little zombie muttered indistinctly.

“I’ll spank you!” Ling Mo declared righteously.

This tactic worked, as the little zombie stopped struggling after thinking for two seconds, and said somewhat fiercely, “I won’t scream, but my sister won’t let you off!”

“What sister?” Ling Mo paused and asked in return.

Aside from mates and offspring, he hadn’t seen other familial relations among zombies.

The little zombie grinned, revealing her teeth, and said, “Scared, are you? My sister is quite strong! She can bite someone like you to death in one go.”

“For a blonde-haired girl with a low evolution level, you sure have a rich vocabulary,” Ling Mo remarked in surprise.

“Heh heh…” the little zombie chuckled, then paused, “It seems like you weren’t complimenting me…”

“Now tell me, what exactly do you want?” Ling Mo took the opportunity to pick her up and asked directly, getting to the point.

The little zombie’s legs dangled in the air, pinned tightly against the wall, allowing her to only futilely twist her upper body and say, “How would I know! Also… what do you…”

“You want to ask what’s going on up there? Sorry to disappoint, but I’ve got backup too,” Ling Mo said, hiding details like the second Zombie Puppet finding some simple hidden weapons and using itself as bait to lure away the monsters. He mystically tossed out the vague information before immediately grinning menacingly, “So, quickly answer my question. Don’t know? Do you think I’ll believe you?”

“I really don’t know, I just…”

“Although her evolution level is higher than yours, wouldn’t your actions be considered intimidating a young girl?” A female voice suddenly echoed from the depths of the corridor just as the little zombie was about to be exposed.

Ling Mo’s heart stirred, and he immediately turned to look into the corridor.

A slender figure emerged from the darkness, her head slightly lowered. Her appearance was somewhat indistinct, but she seemed to be holding a strangely shaped weapon. Perhaps due to the environment, Ling Mo perceived this female zombie as particularly gloomy, and her gait was unusual, with one leg seemingly dragging along the ground as if it lacked strength.

“Is that the sister you mentioned?” Ling Mo asked cautiously.

The little zombie hesitated for a moment before nodding, then quickly shook her head, “It’s another sister.”

“A guerilla team for extra births, huh,” Ling Mo remarked in amazement.

However, at this moment, he felt he had gained some control, at least having a hostage… and it seemed he had temporarily disrupted their unknown plan. If there was any flaw in this, it was that the other Zombie Puppet couldn’t hold on much longer… The makeshift weapons gathered from the surroundings were of little use, and his unfamiliarity with the terrain was a fatal drawback. More crucially, the gestation pods had become increasingly agile in their pursuit… Their chase paths had moved from the ground to the walls and even the ceiling.

The Zombie Puppet was under a lot of pressure!

“Aren’t you going to let her go?” The female zombie stopped awkwardly about ten meters away, her body slightly leaned forward on one side, her arms hanging down, and her head remained low. Her voice was hoarse and muted, sounding as if it was coming through something.

Ling Mo considered his own vocal tone strange enough… For a Zombie Puppet that hasn’t reached an advanced level, making this guy talk is still quite a challenge.

It’s not that his vocal system was greatly affected, but because his facial muscles were in a bizarre twisted state… After controlling Zombie Puppets of similar levels multiple times, Ling Mo had developed some understanding of this facial distortion. To him, it was much like the aftereffects of steroid injections.

With a significant increase in physical capabilities and muscle toughness, the accompanying drawbacks were the loss of cognitive ability and the twitching and stiffening of facial muscles. Overall, the aftereffects were all concentrated in the head…

However, compared to him, this female zombie was equally strange…

“If I let go, I’ll be dead, right?” Ling Mo said.

The female zombie hesitated for a moment, then nodded, “Yes.”

“Hehe…” Zombies really are quite honest.

“Then why should I let go?” Ling Mo retorted.

The female zombie was taken aback; she hadn’t expected that question.

Meanwhile, the little zombie started to shout again, “Go find sister!”

“Smack!”

A sudden slap made the little zombie immediately shut her mouth. She stared at Ling Mo in astonishment, then looked down at her own bottom…

“Want to talk?” Ling Mo asked the female zombie.

“What?” The female zombie clicked and turned her neck to glance at the little zombie, then couldn’t help but ask.

She clearly couldn’t accurately judge the current situation… On one side was what seemed to be a weak yet strange low-level kindred, while on the other was the timely suggestion from the little zombie… She ultimately chose the former.

“What is this place? What was your little sister doing just now? And who is the other sister?” Ling Mo threw out three questions in one go.

“Hmm hm!” The little zombie tried to open her mouth, but Ling Mo quickly covered it.

The female zombie, with her head lowered and hair slightly swaying in front of her face, then rasped out, “Here? This is just a ranch…”

“Look at this.”

Near an elevator door, Xia Na was crouching on the ground, closely inspecting a bloodstain.

The elevator door had a “1F” sign hanging on it, with a grotesque, twisted black hole beneath it. From the direction, this was exactly opposite to the emergency staircase that Ling Mo had taken…

Li Yalin came over for a look and said, “It’s still fresh.”

“Yes, the virus concentration is quite high, but there’s still a gap compared to us. The smell doesn’t quite match pure Zombies, and it’s different from you too.” Xia Na inhaled deeply and then looked inside the elevator.

“The blood leads here,” Li Yalin said, touching a spot on the distorted crack, “Maybe it got injured trying to squeeze through?”

“Hard to say,” Xia Na exerted some force on the edge, stared at the swinging elevator door, and continued, “If this thing were really dumb, it might have ignored these sharp edges and just forced itself in. Combined with the bloodstains on the ground… this means it probably tried more than twice before succeeding. Ah, look at this… a blood spot here as well.”

As she spoke, she stepped sideways and headed inside.

“There’s a hole above! Could it be an escape hatch?” Xia Na’s voice echoed from inside, followed by a soft thud, as if she were climbing up through the opening.

“Wow, what is this?… Senior Sister, I’m going up to take a look!”

Li Yalin stood at the doorway, about to say something when she suddenly turned her head to look towards the depths of the corridor.

“Xia Na, there’s a sound,” Li Yalin murmured.

She took a step back, pressing herself against the gap, and called out again, “Xia Na?”

A few seconds later, she stared into the dark void in front of her, listening to the approaching, increasingly distinct “click” sounds, “What should I do?”

Inside a two-story building on the street.

“Those monsters have gone quiet again,” Yuwen Xuan said as he peeked through the curtains.

Behind him, Mu Chen suddenly asked out of curiosity, “To be honest, why did you insist on coming along?”

“Why did you come along?” Yuwen Xuan retorted.

“I was forced to!” Mu Chen answered quickly, then added with a sigh, “Well, partially… The other half is because I was bored. He took the Miracle Squad, and I was left with nothing to do. So, as the instructor, I came along to continue my duties.”

Yuwen Xuan nodded while still looking outside. “Got it, basically you’re bored to death…”

“Don’t just talk about me! What about you?” Mu Chen asked persistently.

He glanced at Ling Mo secretly, thinking that although this guy’s eyes were closed, he was probably eavesdropping…

“Then why do you think Xu Shuhan came along?” Yuwen Xuan added.

“Ask her yourself. Wait… are you saying you have the same reason?” Mu Chen’s mouth dropped open. He knew exactly what Yuwen Xuan meant when mentioning Xu Shuhan. Even a fool could see in recent days that she didn’t come here just to help; she was here to quietly accompany Ling Mo. The only fool who hadn’t realized it was Ling Mo, sitting right there in the room.

Mu Chen hoped their idle chat might enlighten Ling Mo, even if it seemed a bit underhanded. After all, Xu Shuhan was his friend… If there’s a third, there can be a fourth! That’s what he thought…

“Hahaha… no way!” Yuwen Xuan’s gaze softened suddenly as he stared at the Zombies below. “But maybe there’s some similarity… I’m here to use the opportunity to find someone I can focus on… Uh, not that there’s much hope, but mainly I’m here to keep my sister company! Hahaha…”

But then his laughter abruptly cut off, and he swiftly closed the curtain with a swish.

“What is it?” Mu Chen immediately sensed something and jumped up to ask.

Yuwen Xuan turned back to look around the room, his gaze lingering on Ling Mo before he frowned and whispered, “Someone’s watching us.”
