MMORPG: Rise of the Primordial Godsmith

Chapter 1515 - 1515: Myriad Prodigies: End (3)

‘…Of course, there’s a limit to how much the Shard of Defiance can turn things around to your favor,’ the man continued.

‘Even in the state where you’re able to fully tap into its power in the future, it won’t give you the power to kill peak Divine-level beings nor Primordial-level beings in a single hit.’

‘The Shard of Defiance only gives you a little nudge that would make that feat be a non-zero possibility.’

‘…You understand what I’m getting at, right?’

‘I think so,’ replied Valyr after mulling over it for a bit, the gears in his mind turning as he continued to listen to the man discuss the Shard of Defiance’s abilities.

‘Just in case my previous words haven’t made it clear, one of the Shard of Defiance’s main abilities is to make the level gap between you and your opponent non-existent, transforming what would normally be a battle of levels into the battle it’s truly intended to be.’

‘A battle that focuses on raw stats and skills.’

‘Aside from that, the additional powers the Shard of Defiance gives you depends on the opponent you’re fighting, as well as the cost you accept to pay in exchange for tapping into its power,’ concluded the man, only for Valyr to pause for a bit at those words.

‘Wait… what do you mean by the last part?’

‘The cost?’ asked Vaughn for clarification, to which the young man sent confirmation in return.

For a while after that, the Divine-level being remained silent, eventually asking Valyr a question. ‘What price did you pay when you activated the skill against the Lesser Sin?’

‘Almost my entire health and energy reserves,’ the young man replied succinctly, which surprisingly caused Vaughn to go silent once more.

Fortunately, the silence didn’t last long, with the man letting out a faint sigh as he spoke in a tone of slight realization. ‘…I suppose that’s to be expected at your level, considering how you haven’t even met the minimum requirements to awaken it yet.’

‘But once you do, the burden the Shard would have on you will become more than negligible… though I do recommend trying to practice limiting the amount the skill takes from you whenever you activate it.’

‘It would definitely help you out a lot once you fully awaken it.’

‘I’ll keep that in mind,’ said Valyr after that, feeling somewhat satisfied from the information he’d obtained from Vaughn.

Though, once he began to think a bit more into the information he received, more and more questions related to them began to gradually surface in his mind, causing him to have an urge to ask Vaughn about them then and there.

Nevertheless, the young man forcefully restrained himself from acting out on that urge, knowing that there were just some things he was better off not knowing for the meantime.

Of course, there were also some things he felt better knowing right now, with the thought that suddenly popped up in his mind being one of them.

‘Oh, right. Before you go, I wanted to ask something.’ Feeling as if Vaughn was planning to end their conversation then and there, Valyr went ahead and took the initiative to continue it by attracting his attention.

‘How’s progress on the toggle for the curse’s effects?’

‘About that…’ Hearing those words, the man surprisingly let out a slightly awkward chuckle. ‘I’m still in the middle of making it, actually.’

‘Turns out the formation Clazarek used for his curses is made up of multi-layered runes, all of which he came up with on his own.’

‘Have you cracked it?’ asked Valyr in return, recalling that the man had assured him it would only take two to three weeks of Veldanyr time for the toggle to be completed.

Yet, over half a year had already passed since that promise was made.

‘…You could say I’m getting there,’ answered Vaughn after a bit of silence. ‘I’m sure you still remember the last time frame I’ve given you, so I won’t get your hopes up by telling you it’s ready any time soon.’

‘However, what I am sure of is that it’ll be ready before the war wreaking havoc on Veldanyr reaches its climax,’ continued the man, his tone now determined.

‘Of course, to make the long wait worth it, I’ll also add a couple things to it that you might find useful later down the line.’

‘In any case, it’s been nice talking to you, Valyr.’ Hearing those words, it was only then did Valyr feel like he had talked everything he needed to talk about with Vaughn.

Though, just as he was about to say farewell in response to the man’s words, the latter’s next statement could not help but leave him at a loss for words.

‘…And also tell Adam and Eve I said hi when you meet them.’

Whoosh!

And with that, Valyr was left stunned silent as the connection between Vaughn and the talisman eventually disappeared, taking some time to stare off into the horizon before gradually coming back to reality.

“He… knew?” murmured the young man to himself the moment he regained his bearings, slightly frowning at the thought.

“When did he find out?”

“Was it during my fight against Erika? Or was it way before then?”

“…Man.” Letting out a sigh at the sudden influx of thoughts plaguing his mind, Valyr eventually decided to shelf those thoughts for the meantime, confident that Vaughn would tell him how he knew about it at some point.

Taking a bit more time to compose himself after that, the young man then sent a message to Ataraxia to enter the room, giving the two the opportunity to discuss the information they’ve obtained from Vaughn just a bit more.

Though they didn’t obtain any additional information from the Divine-level being whatsoever, the two were able to interpolate a few more pieces of information out of it thanks to them tackling the information from different perspectives.

Coincidentally, just as the two were finished going over the information Vaughn shared with them once more, one of the tournament’s organizers entered their room to tell them that they were being asked to head up to the amphitheater’s surface.

Being informed that the reason was to hold a quick few bouts to determine who would temporarily make up the top 16 of the Myriad Prodigies Tournament, Valyr and Ataraxia did not take long to get there, briefly stunned by how fast the amphitheater had been repaired.

Giving Lunarossa and the three arbiters a faint nod of acknowledgment, the two then watched the remaining participants within the top 16 duke it out on each other under the surveillance of the tournament director.

Feeling a bit thankful that the other participants had unanimously agreed that he’d be the champion of the tournament, Valyr soon asked Julian and the others on the side as to when the other top spots would be determined.

Hearing that the remaining top spots filling up the 128 would be confirmed within the current week, the young man faintly nodded in understanding, returning his attention to the ongoing fights before him.

‘Although there’s still a bit more to go until the tournament officially comes to a close…’

‘At the very least, my journey in this tournament is finally over.’
