Chapter 4730: Tricks

“There are footprints on the ground! That little girl must have stopped here,” one of the cultivators exclaimed, pointing to the distinct marks in the dirt. He chuckled, “Look, these footprints are heading towards the road on the left. It seems that the little girl really did run that way.”

“Hahahaha, well, she’s so clever! But no matter what, she’s just a child, and she didn’t even think to wipe away her footprints, leaving us a perfect trail! Let’s go! We’ll chase after her and properly meet this little girl. It’s been a long time since we’ve encountered such an interesting little one.” Shen Shiqi burst out laughing as he immediately chased after her as he took the path to the left.

At this exact moment, Yue’er was indeed on the road to the left, but she wasn’t running wildly along it. Instead, she had found a cleverly hidden spot, concealing her aura and watching from the shadows to see if those persistent cultivators were chasing her down this particular path.

After a while, when she saw the few men chatting and laughing as they effortlessly swept along the mountain path, heading directly toward the road she had seemingly taken, a triumphant smile involuntarily spread across her eyes. Her face lit up with a mischievous grin, like a cunning little fox .

She lay perfectly still, not moving a muscle, waiting until the figures of the cultivators were completely out of sight. Only then did she quickly get up, turn back, return to the three-way path, and head swiftly down the straight road. She was determined to be the first of her two brothers to return to the mountain, so taking the longer route was simply not an option. She had to deceive them first, create a diversion, and then double back.

Once she passed this straight road and reached the small town up ahead, the roads would split into multiple directions, making it significantly more difficult for them to catch up with her. Thinking of this, she quickened her pace even further. She knew that if they chased her for too long and didn’t find her, they might eventually realize what had happened.

While rushing back, Yue’er’s heart was pounding as if running for her life, feeling a mix of nervousness and exhilaration.

On the other side, after successfully leaving the dense forest, Muchen also followed a different mountain road. Relatively speaking, he hadn’t encountered anyone or any trouble during his travels. Additionally, he was typically a man of few words, so he didn’t mind not speaking for ten days or even half a month if it meant a peaceful journey.

Their master had deliberately abandoned them in different parts of the forest. Even if they all managed to get out, the three of them were expected to take different paths back to Yunxiao Mountain, ensuring there was no chance of them meeting each other along the way.

On the road, Muchen efficiently used the swift steps his mother had taught him to travel quickly. After walking for a while without seeing a soul, he gradually began to encounter other travelers. Some were wandering cultivators, gracefully flying with their swords or riding magnificent contract beasts, while others were seated comfortably within elaborate flying artifacts. There were even more people sitting in grand spirit beast carriages, accompanied by numerous guards and servants, giving them the appearance of members from a large, wealthy family traveling in luxury.

As it grew dark, one of the large spirit beast carriage convoys stopped to rest for the night. Muchen also decided to rest not far from them. He reasoned that by staying close to the well-protected spirit beast carriage convoy, he wouldn’t encounter any significant danger.

In one of the stopped spirit beast carriages, the elegant curtain was gently lifted by a pair of delicate hands. A beautiful woman, dressed as a noble lady, looked out at the darkening sky. She was about to lower the curtain when her gaze caught a fleeting glimpse of a small figure behind one of the spirit beasts. A look of surprise flashed across her eyes. She leaned closer to the window and glanced backward, only to confirm she had indeed seen a small child. She couldn’t help but pause for a moment, her curiosity piqued.

“Take these pastries to that child,” the beautiful woman said in a gentle voice, handing a plate of exquisitely prepared pastries to the maid serving her.

“Yes,” replied the maid, respectfully accepting the plate and carefully stepping out of the luxurious spirit beast carriage.
