184 A Hint of Sourness

For the rest of the day, Bai Qi’s emotion was a little complicated.

Bai Qi would never think that the profit share he would receive from He Rong would be that much. Back then, when he had attended that convention, there were a few other companies who were looking for investors as well.

In the end, he decided that he liked He Rong’s idea and invested in his company.

Those were the money he had spent before his father’s company went bankrupt.

Back then, he never thought of asking He Rong to return the money to him. He had thought that asking back for the money he invested was inappropriate. The amount was insignificant as compared to the amount of money his father had owed.

Moreover, at that time, he was caring for his pregnant mother. Later, he had forgotten all about it. He Rong has been a good friend and he had almost forgotten about the money he had invested.

Who would have thought that after years has passed, He Rong would secure a big project and the profit would be that much?

Bai Qi was too stunned to hear the amount of money he would get.

If He Rong’s company continued to do well, he might receive a lot more money.

.....

The thought that he would not have to worry about his rent and bills for the next few years almost made him cry.

Only God knew how much he had struggled these past few years.

He wanted to be a doctor. However, with his current position, the salary he got was not that much.

Moreover, Bai Xi Xi was still growing up and there was a lot of money to be spent.

His little sister might not care about wearing her old clothes, but his heart would ache each time that he looked at her in her faded dress.

The money would be enough to support him and Xi Xi’s life for a few years. He might be able to send her to a better school. If he was smart enough to save and spend wisely, he would never have to worry about Bai Xi Xi’s college.

Now that he no longer have to worry about money, he didn’t have to feel inferior to stand beside his little fairy, did he?

His money might never match the girl’s family’s wealth. Zhang Li Xue herself might never care about such things. But at least, he would not have to worry about spending some money when he was with her.

On that day, Bai Qi spent a few minutes in the restroom composing himself. No one knew what he was doing, but when he got out again, his eyes were slightly reddened.

Then, he returned to do his job with a clear mind.

With his good mood, Bai Qi began to work diligently. He had not noticed that he has been sitting in his office preparing the paperwork for hours.

The sound of knocking on the door startled him. Bai Qi glanced at the door quickly and spoke, “Come in.”

When the door was pushed open, the scent of a familiar fragrance wafted to his nose. Bai Qi looked up again and was startled to find Zhang Li Xue in front of him with a bright smile on her face.

Zhang Li Xue tilted her head to one side and spoke, “Doctor Bai, is this a bad time?”

“No.” Bai Qi stood up quickly as he continued to stare at her with his eyes widened. “Please, come in.” As if he had realized something, Bai Qi glanced at the clock.

Then, he remembered that Zhang Li Xue had told him that she would be coming to the hospital to accompany him for dinner.

Just now, he was too focused on his paperwork that he had not noticed the time. He did not realize that he has been working until it was too late.

Zhang Li Xue closed the door behind her. Then, she raised the paper bags in her hand. “Is it convenient for you to have dinner now? I brought us some food.”

Bai Qi lowered his gaze, feeling slightly guilty that he had forgotten about their promise. “I’m sorry. I lost track of time.”

“It’s alright.” Zhang Li Xue glanced at the papers scattered on his desk. “Are you busy?” She pursed her lips, wondering if she was too insistent to have dinner with him that she had disturbed him.

She wanted to pursue him. Not to cause him inconvenience.

“No matter how busy I am, I still have time to accompany you for a meal.” Bai Qi began to tidy up his desk. “Don’t worry. I still have plenty of time to look at them.” He shifted his gaze to the paper bag she was carrying. “What did you get?”

Zhang Li Xue heaved a sigh in relief, seeing that she was really not causing a disturbance for him. “You only said that you are not picky with food. I don’t know what you like, therefore, I just bought a few dishes that I like.”

“That’s fine too.” As long as it was something that his little fairy liked to eat, then, he would like them too.

“Then, should we have our meal at the cafeteria?”

Bai Qi thought of the cafeteria which was crowded with people and decided against it. “How about the hospital’s rooftop?”

“Rooftop?”

“Un. It has an amazing view and the place is quite comfortable too. Have you been there previously?”

Zhang Li Xue shook her head. Although she had visited the hospital many times before, it was never for sightseeing.

Bai Qi smiled. “Then, I guess you will like the place.”

After Bai Qi had tidied up his place, Zhang Li Xue went with him to the rooftop. The two of them took the elevator to the top floor.

As they were waiting for the elevator to reach the floor, Zhang Li Xue could not help but notice that a few young nurses were looking at Bai Qi.

Looking at the way they were whispering to each other would tell her just what they had in mind. It seemed that this was not the first time something like this had happened.

Previously, when Bai Qi was walking her around the hospital, there would be others who would steal a few glances at him as well. But she had never paid much attention to them until now.

Zhang Li Xue glanced at the tall man beside her.

Bai Qi was really good-looking. With his look, it would not be impossible if he would attract some butterflies.

As the thought came to her mind, Zhang Li Xue felt a hint of sourness...
