“Deer Girl?”
Yizhou’s Tibetan city lord fell silent. The other Tibetan commanders and nobles fell silent too.
“Indeed!” the city lord’s son nodded in delight.
Seconds passed before the Tibetan city lord asked, “Who’s that?”
The other commanders and nobles also stared at the city lord’s son in confusion.
The city lord’s son was stunned. He hesitantly asked, “Have you never heard of her? She’s the Deer Whisperer who recently came up with all sorts of brilliant ideas and inventions in Yizhou, Guazhou, Shazhou, and the Western Regions…”
“…Is she good at fighting?”
The Tibetan city lord had been under so much stress recently—it felt like a noose was slowly tightening around his neck—that he asked a dumb question.
Is it an up-and-rising mage from the Tibetan Plateau?
If such a mage joins our rank, we might still last a while against the Anxi army. At least we can try to offer our city to the enemy in exchange for our surrender.“Father, what nonsense are you saying?!” The city lord’s son was unhappy to hear that. “The Deer Girl is a desert fairy. She cries even over deceased lambs; there’s no way she would resort to violence!”
“Does she have a secret spell that will help us guard the city?” the Tibetan city lord asked.
“What are you saying?”
“Then why did you say that we’re saved?!”
The Tibetan city lord lost his patience, thinking that his son was distracting them with trivial matters at this critical moment.
“You see…”
After the city lord’s son explained the matter, the crowd finally understood what was the deal with Deer Girl.
A merchant convoy had gotten lost in the desert, and just as they were on the verge of dying, they encountered a beautiful woman riding on a white deer, dressed in green. She led them to an oasis, saving their lives.
That woman was beautiful and innocent, and her dance was enchanting like a fairy. Over time, she became known as the Deer Girl.
She was also known for the creative little gadgets she invented, which had been selling like hotcakes in the region. It was no exaggeration to say that she was raking in gold.
She was also adept at resolving conflicts. With her tender words, she made others understand how valuable peace was and convinced them to lay down their weapons…
“City lord.”
Some of the nobles looked at the city lord’s son with sympathetic eyes.
“Is there something wrong with your son’s head?”
After kicking such a huge fuss, the so-called Deer Girl was just a minor witch who knew some spells and created little commercial products. The city lord’s son must be out of his mind to treat someone like that as a savior!
That being said, most of them empathized with the city lord’s son.
Only death was left in the wake of the undead calamity.
The terror of the undead army was only registering to them right now. Knowing that their lives could be extinguished at a huff brought about despair that drove them to the brink of insanity.
Slave masters drowned themselves in alcohol to indulge themselves in pleasure or stave off their despair. Drunk vagrants went wild merrymaking through the night. Noblewomen cast away their virtues and let their true desires seep out.
Yizhou had already gone mad before the undead calamity arrived, and it looked like the city lord’s son had fallen victim too.
“SCRAM!” Yizhou’s Tibetan city lord chased his foolish son out with bloodshot eyes.
…
Outside the Governor Manor, a beautiful woman wearing a green dress was resting against a white deer. She had a trinket on her leg, and it produced a euphonious melody whenever she moved.
“Deer Girl.” The city lord’s son lowered his head in shame. “I failed to convince my father and the others.”
“It isn’t your fault.”
The Deer Girl had clear, soulful eyes, though the rest of her face was obscured by a veil.
“It isn’t their fault either. There is just too much prejudice in the world masking people’s eyes. Even without their help, I’ll do everything I can to stop this calamity and save Yizhou’s innocent populace.”
The city lord’s son looked at the Deer Girl with awed eyes.
This is the Deer Girl indeed, a beautiful and innocent fairy heaven has bestowed to the desert.
By the time the city lord’s son snapped out of his daze, Deer Girl had already disappeared, leaving the young man to stare at the desert with wistful eyes.
…
Bam! Bam! Bam!
The Tibetan garrison troops watched with horrified eyes as the beast-transformed high shaman zombie marched toward the city gates with heavy footsteps.
“NO!”
KABLAM!
As soon as the high shaman bashed through the city gates, relentless waves of terracotta soldiers swiftly flooded the city.
“Terracotta soldiers work much better in places like this,” Shu Yichao remarked.
Winter had long passed, and it was nearing the end of spring. There were no longer any frigid snowstorms to obscure the specters. So, Shu Yichao changed his undead army’s composition to fit the change in climate—terracotta soldiers for battles and specters to clean up in sieges.
Cries filled the city.
All of a sudden, the gentle ringing of a bell echoed out of nowhere. It felt like a warm spring breeze, intoxicating one.
“Mmph…” Miazova clutched its head as it swayed on the spot. “It feels like I’m drunk.”
It raised its head with great difficulty to take a look. Someone seemed to be dancing amidst the flying sand, her moves so alluring that the spectators couldn’t help but fall into trance.
Weng!
A light flickered across Miazova’s eyes, and the grogginess in his head swiftly receded.
Alarmed, it anxiously turned to Shu Yichao to warn him, “Oy, darned grandson! Something’s off. A tough one is here!”
Miazova, as an Abyss Hell Butterfly, had a spirit stronger than most people, but it had never seen such a formidable illusion since arriving in this world. That dance was so potent that it could enchant an entire city!
Had it been a battle between ordinary soldiers, both sides would have put down their weapons and stopped fighting to admire that mesmerizing dance.
Miazova didn’t receive an answer, so it turned over.
Shu Yichao was getting high from zapping others.
“What’s up, son? Why are you calling daddy?” Shu Yichao glanced over.
“Be careful!” Miazova exclaimed. “Don’t look there; you’ll fall for that fellow’s illusion!”
