The phone in Bi Fang’s hands was encased in a camouflage hard shell, looking incredibly sturdy and reminding one of those early-century Nokias that could be used to crack walnuts.

Clearly, it was not a phone one could purchase from a regular store on the street.

This time he was to go to Japan, and considering the activities he was about to undertake, his identity, and the historical relations between the two countries, Bi Fang felt he needed to submit a request for this mission.

When he made his first request, the other party even misunderstood his intentions, asking if he required armed support, and later explained with difficulty that supplying firearms posed some challenges, and their use might lead to quite severe consequences.

There were, however, many melee weapons readily available for supply, and airdropping them was not out of the question—it just required a heads-up about an hour and a half in advance.

Bi Fang was puzzled for a while but eventually clarified that he had no intentions of causing destruction…

...

Now, his request had been approved, and following that, a warm invitation from the Japanese side arrived. A man named Gang Tianwu called to introduce himself as the person in charge of this hunting season, expressing immense honor at Bi Fang’s participation and requesting the exact time of arrival to arrange accommodations.

After finalizing everything, all eyes on the Japanese official forums noticed immediately that the official poster had changed.

Initially, it only featured Black Bear and Yōki Hunter in an adversarial stance, but this time, it also included a young man.

In the middle of the large poster, a black bear was roaring skyward, on the left was the Yōki Hunter wielding a naginata, and to the right was the half-portrait of Bi Fang, with eyes full of determination and eyebrows soaring.

[Who is this man? Why is he worthy of standing on the other side of Yōki Hunter?]

[No way, no way, can anyone really not know Master Fang?]

[With regular live streams watched by over six million viewers and a global fan base of nearly a hundred million, aside from the elderly, children, middle-aged men who don’t watch live streams, and people from impoverished regions, even I, from a small Japanese village, recognize this man.]

[Is Master Fang here to avenge the first incident with Black Bear?]

[Damn, since when was Master Fang participating in Japan’s hunting season? How come I haven’t heard anything? Is this fake news? Are Japanese officials violating portrait rights?]

[Japan’s official announcement came a day earlier than Wolf Fang’s, I don’t understand.]

The other registered hunters were filled with jealousy.

Are we unworthy of being named?

Why does he get to be in the center spot?

Underneath the massive promotional poster, there was also a video interview with the aged Yōki Hunter. An Oak Tree Company host interviewed an elderly Yōki Hunter, asking for his views on this hunting season.

The old Yōki Hunter Endo said, “Japan now has over four million sika deer, yet our wolves have gone extinct, leaving only Black Bear to hold them back, and now, Black Bear’s numbers have also gotten out of control, so we stand up!”

“The Yōki Hunter has a history of several centuries; my family has passed it down to me, the ninth generation. Every time Black Bear encroaches on humans, we stand up, and this time is no exception. However, I am old now; my disciple, Sato, and his peers from the new generation of young hunters will carry on the legacy!”

Endo stepped aside, revealing a middle-aged man behind him with a somewhat stable demeanor and bowed legs. Facing his master’s introduction, he nodded calmly.

Passersby erupted in cheers; this was their culture, their Yōki Hunters!

The reporter asked again, “So, what do you think about the Legendary Adventurer Master Fang joining the competition?”

Endo was clearly of an older generation and not very internet-savvy. Taken aback, he asked, “Master Fang? Is that his name?”

“No, his name is Bi Fang, but his fans revere him as Master Fang, comparing him to a heavenly god in the wilds. He’s an Adventurer with many legendary experiences.”

Endo scoffed, “A god? If he’s the god of the wilds, then we Yōki Hunters are the gods of hunting Black Bears. No matter what feats he’s accomplished, the first prize of this hunting competition will surely be ours!”

Sato, clearly embarrassed by his master’s age and propensity to dwell on past glories, found his master’s words less than courteous. He quickly coughed twice, attempting to draw the Oak Tree Company reporter’s attention.

But the reporter didn’t care for politeness; the more intense the conflict, the better. They pursued such stories with gusto, hoping for a face-to-face confrontation to splash across tomorrow’s headlines.

Left with no choice as the reporter was about to ask another question, Sato cut in, “I have great respect for Mr. Bi’s actions in the wilderness, and I acknowledge that he is a legendary adventurer. I’ve even watched many of his videos—he’s a remarkable young man.”

After lavishing praise on Bi Fang, which didn’t sit well with his master Endo, Sato quickly changed his tune, “However, precisely because he is too young, my master — a professional Yōki Hunter — was thirty-six when he first killed a Black Bear on his own.”

“Thirty-five and ten months!” Endo corrected sharply.

Sato nodded, “And under my master’s patient guidance, I managed to kill a 1.8-meter Black Bear on my own at thirty-two! I am forty this year and have killed a total of seven large bears! The only reason there aren’t more is that the government’s annual quota is too low. If it were removed, I could kill even more!”

At this point, Sato appeared somewhat proud, and Endo nodded in satisfaction, pleased that his disciple had surpassed him.

“But from what I understand, Bi Fang is only twenty-five this year, right?”

The reporter nodded, confirming this information.

Sato began to speak with authority, “In terms of Black Bear hunting, he is simply too inexperienced. The only Black Bear encounter he had was fraught with danger, and he didn’t even manage to harm the beast; he merely poked it, prompting the not particularly hungry bear to abandon its prey.”

The reporter was skilled at honing in on the controversy, “So in this competition, Master Fang is truly no match for the Yōki Hunters, is he?”

Sato was displeased with the reporter’s instigation. Even if Bi Fang was inferior in bear-hunting, he was still a globally recognized figure, and Sato didn’t want to offend him so easily.

Yet, deep down, Sato did think just that; he simply let out a slight smile, “I didn’t say that, but for this competition, I still maintain considerable confidence, and I imagine the other Yōki Hunters likely feel the same.”

Beyond Sato’s interview, the reporter also spoke with other Yōki Hunters participating in the hunt: Tanaka, Okuyama, Fujiwara, and Takahashi, who all displayed their self-confidence and poise.

Some hunters went as far as to directly state that Bi Fang was too green and that perhaps in twenty years, when they had grown old and Bi Fang had matured, he might stand a chance of winning.

This infuriated Bi Fang’s fans, who lashed out.

[Since ancient times, the left side of a ‘wave’ denotes a loss! You’re on the left side of the poster; you’re doomed to lose!]

[The Japanese People have always been so confident; I’m used to it by now.]

“To be honest, Bi Fang had never actually killed a Black Bear; the only record was a retreat battle…”

“This hunting season, victory will inevitably belong to our Great Korean Empire!”

“Wow, Little Kimchi is even more confident than Little Yabaga. Let me see, looks like no one from Stick Country is participating huh?”

“Holy shit, is Mugalen coming too?”

“Where? Where?”

“Mugalen?” Bi Fang, who had been silently lurking, was somewhat surprised, but he didn’t see the list of participants. Only after scrolling through the other party’s social network did he find out that they had only registered, and it was still unknown whether they had been accepted or not.

The complete list would not be confirmed until the day after tomorrow. Bi Fang was an exception; Japan used him as a gimmick, promoting him in advance.

After sending out the new posters and promotions, the traffic to the promotional website instantly skyrocketed tenfold!

Gang Tianwu was overjoyed; indeed, after Bi Fang joined, it made a huge difference, stirring up the excitement and drawing more and more attention to their hunting season.

The event could be considered a great success already; if the Yōki Hunter could take the final championship, it would undoubtedly be the most significant highlight in his record!

Before long, Wolf Fang also released posters, but Wolf Fang’s posters were much more straightforward and brutal, featuring only Bear and Bi Fang.

Bi Fang, spear in hand, leapt up from behind; the Black Bear roared loudly, trying to turn around, with saliva splattering from its mouth.

Wolf Fang’s trailer, once again confirmed that Bi Fang was about to participate in Japan’s Black Bear hunting season.

“Get first place, bring home the first place!”

“What Yōki Hunter, thinking he’s half ghost, top gun? He’s actually neither human nor ghost.”

“Good joke.”

“Show those little Yabaga some color.”

“International friends, let’s all be friendly, okay!”

“Throw some dirt in their eyes.”

“My back!!!”

“Stir it up, the more lively the better.”

Bi Fang put down his phone, picked up his ticket to Japan. The more attention the hunting season drew, the more convenient his actions would be.

Besides the organization and those eight people, probably no one would guess that participating in the hunting season was a sham; the true purpose was to go to Taiji Town to film Dolphin Bay.

“Finally, all modifications are complete! Guys, come down and have a look.”

The voice of the electrical expert came from the living room, and everyone hurried over.

Bi Fang jumped onto the stair railing, smoothly slid down to the ground floor, and from three meters high, he jumped down.

The living room was already filled with various materials and wires. Bi Fang stepped over a pile of plaster and noticed a stone suddenly slide under his feet.

After the modifications, the mobility of these cameras had greatly increased, becoming quieter, more flexible, and their colors and appearance were more like the local vegetation of Taiji Town.

The final adjustments were completed, two days ahead of the original plan.

The electrical expert wiped the sweat beads from his forehead, manipulated the computer, and the stone camera turned a corner and slid away from Bi Fang’s feet, finally stopping in a corner, motionless, looking just like an ordinary stone.

The electrical expert was very satisfied: “Adjustments are all complete; as soon as we get there, we can start using them directly.”

Equipment was ready, and so…

Bi Fang looked at his team.

Richard nodded.

Jerry spread his hands: “I feel like I can go to the Olympics now.”

Pondy laughed: “All my injuries are healed.”

“Ready to dive, sir!” Mandy and Keke said aloud.

The assistant cameraman was eager to try: “I will do my best.”

“Then, see you on July 10th, in Taiji Town.”

“See you in Taiji Town! *7”

The evening of July 8th.

The cabin was dark, the plane had descended below the cloud layer, and it was raining outside the window, the worldly lights shining through the veil of rain.

Dressed in a rare suit, Bi Fang held a black umbrella, looking out at the huge maze beneath the dark night sky.

At this moment, beneath his feet lay Asia’s largest city—Tokyo.
