Chapter 975 The Cause of the Fall (8)
Alastor did not reveal his identity to the humans when he acted as a mediator between them and Ames. Hiding his identity was not something he and Ames agreed on, but he was sensible enough to know that revealing his identity to the humans might cause some problems.
He was not worried about the Fates trying to do something to remedy the Human plane's knowledge of the Lower Realm. Because, like Nolan, he was aware that one of the Fates suffered an injury from Kyran. Thus, they could not interfere with anything in the Lower Realm that could change the course of the future.
Moreover, Alastor knew that the Human plane was one of those special planes in the Lower Realm that must not be destroyed during the War of the Sovereigns. Even if the Fates intervened with the events happening in the Human plane, they could not overdo it because, unlike in other planes, their influence there was only at a bare minimum.
Alastor initially believed that the reason behind this was the fact the Human plane was one of those special planes. However, he changed his mind after the recent event where the Fates personally appeared in Somuli to prevent Flos's and Obstruction's deaths. After all, Somuli, like the Human plane, was one of those special planes.
From this, Alastor gleaned that the Human plane was far more special than what they initially believed it to be. While he and the rest of the senior mages in the Higher Realm had already considered the Human plane special because it was confirmed to be a remnant part of the Land of the Ancients, he sensed a different type of power in the Human plane that lowered the Fates' influence over it. If the other senior mages in the Higher Realm knew about this, they would do everything they could to understand what that power was. Such power that could lessen the influence of the Fates was something every wise mage would want for their planes. After all, if the Fates had less influence over one's plane, they could do and test many things that teeter to the edges of what the Fates deemed acceptable or unacceptable and would not have to worry about receiving an irreversible aftereffect.
Fortunately, the only mages in the Higher Realm who managed to find and enter the Human plane were not interested in that power.
Even the Demons, when they invaded the Human plane, they were only interested in locating the Dragon clan and the Heart of the Cosmos. Then again, the Demons were unaware that they were in the Human plane back then and that the Great Antitheus King, their leader, was on the brink of death and had greatly weakened. He failed to sense that different power in the Human plane until death.
The power that Alastor felt was actually weaker compared to the time when the Great Antitheus King was in the Human plane. The fact that the latter still failed to sense that power was a testament to how weak he had gotten.
Nonetheless, the Great Antitheus King might not have noticed that power, but he discovered that the Human plane had humans possessing the Four Ancient Magic Cores. This discovery could have changed the events in that particular War of the Sovereigns. If he had offered this intel to The Emperor and asked for leniency, the Demon Clan would have escaped total annihilation and could have returned to the Higher Realm.
Ultimately, the Great Antitheus King decided to keep this intel to himself, only telling it to a few of his loyal subjects. His decision destroyed the Demon Clan's chances of survival. Even his loyal subjects who knew about the existence of the Four Ancient Magic Cores in the Human plane were killed, with Ruin being the only survivor.
Ruin, being his uncaring and unambitious self, did not care about the existence of the Four Ancient Magic Cores— except for the human possessing the Void core, that is.
In the end, his unique character ensured that the appearance of the Four Ancient Magic Cores in the Human plane was kept secret. Not only that, it allowed Caelan, Stella, and Zane's plan to create a powerful Void Master for the future.
As to what power protected the Human plane, it was also the Four Ancient Magic Cores. Or, to be more accurate, it was the convergence of the four Ancient Magic itself.
And the power that Alastor felt at that moment had been Stella's Time Magic.
It should be noted that when Kyran left, and Stella wanted to go with him, he asked her to stay. Though both did not elaborate on the reason, they seemed to have a tacit understanding of it. Thus, Stella did not insist, even though she genuinely wanted to help search for Cyneah.
It did not take much time for Ames and Alastor to gather the Regis Clan's Elites and leave the Human plane. Nonetheless, with the time difference on the plane and outside, a day had already passed since Kyran fled, and The Emperor went after him.
If True Void had a real body, he would be sweating buckets already because of stress. This was because, more than two hours ago, before Ames and Alastor returned, he had completely lost the connection he had with Kyran.
Although the fact that True Void still existed confirmed that Kyran was still alive, it did not change the fact that the distance between them had grown too big to the point that he could no longer sense the latter.
Alastor tried to alleviate True Void's restlessness by assuring him that even if he could no longer sense Kyran, he, Alastor, already had his colleagues searching for him.
When True Void tried to remind him that Kyran possessed the Heart of the Cosmos— now, he called the Shaiha as such since Alastor kept calling it that way—thus, his colleagues would have trouble pinpointing his location.
Alastor immediately realized how worried True Void was since he forgot that even if his colleagues could not sense Kyran, The Emperor was chasing him. They could easily search for the latter's magic signature instead of finding Kyran's.
For the record, Alastor was still convinced that True Void was Neo. Because of all that time, True Void remained equipped on the latter.
No one from Kyran's side seemed to care if Alastor misunderstood this. Which was why no one tried to tell him that the one he was speaking with was the armor and not the automaton, Neo.
Another person who continued to worry about Kyran was Cyneah.
Again, Alastor did not know that Cyneah was the Soul Emperor's successor. No one also told him of her identity.
Then again, it might be confusing if they told him who she was when the previous Soul Emperor had not truly disappeared.
Nevertheless, Alastor was not completely clueless about Cyneah's identity. He knew she possessed the Macabre Glacier, which was why he and his colleagues in The Coven also wanted to keep an eye on her.
To them, Cyneah successfully 'taming' the mirror was unprecedented. Not only that, they also confirmed that her innate magic was quite different from the mirror. How was she able to 'control' the mirror?
Alastor and the rest of The Coven might be veterans even in the Higher Realm. Apart from that, their knowledge in the Lower Realm was far superior to anyone else in the Lower Realm. However, there were still plenty of things that they were unaware of because of the missing bits and pieces of history of the Human plane.
It was not wrong to say that their knowledge of the Human plane was greater than the others, but that did not give them an edge.
The others who knew about Cyneah's identity remained mum as well.
It was not because they did not trust Alastor completely. On the other hand, the level of trust they gave him was quite high. And that was the reason they could not disclose Cyneah's identity.
They knew Alastor had been open with them all this time. And how he could easily gather intel and share it with them with ease confirmed that he was receiving updates in real-time.
But how was he doing it?
He was not even using any communication device. Instead, they would only sense a strange fluctuation happening around him.
Unfortunately, none were present when Alastor and The Emperor exchanged words outside of Somuli. If they did, they would know that the former could use the Lower Realm's laws to a certain degree.
Then again, Ames was probably the only one who would understand the exchange between them because they spoke using the Ancient Language.
Time flew by, and almost two days had passed since Kyran went missing with The Emperor.
Alastor did not expect such a thing to happen. The Coven was practically everywhere, and many of them could communicate with the Lower Realm.
How could they not find Kyran and even The Emperor?
Alastor's expression turned grim as he thought of a place that the two might have gotten into, which would definitely make them unable to locate them.
The Land of Desolation.
