Chapter 955 Taking the Initiative (1)
Axil and Loar came up with a theory or two as to how Flos's and Obstruction's planes fell under Kyran's protection even though he was not a Sovereign. The first theory had something to do with his innate magic.
The nature of Void magic had always been up for debate because of the lack of information about it. Up to date, the only ones who got a better understanding of it were Axil and a few other members of the Guardians who worked with Kyran on a mission during his stay with them this past year or so.
Axil and Loar were quite familiar with the Void's nothingness nature. Kyran even displayed it splendidly when he defied all common sense and ignored the Fates' influence. In any case, this particular nature of the Void magic could be why the planes under Flos and Obstruction fell under Kyran, though he was not a Sovereign.
Another thing worth looking into was the Void magic nature that naturally nullified the rules of the Lower Realm, exempting Kyran from the rules that would normally bind other Sovereigns.
The second theory had something to do with Kyran himself.
To Axil and Loar, Kyran's existence was already an anomaly. Who could blame them? A mage possessing one Ancient magic was already a very rare and special existence. What more if that mage possessed two?
Everything that involved Kyran was bound to defy common logic, and mulling over every little thing that happened around him would only give one a huge migraine.
Still, no matter how much Axil and Loar believed one of their theories was the answer, because of the lack of concrete evidence to support their theories, they remained as such— theories.
With nothing else to go by, Axil and Loar stopped dwelling on the subject and focused their brain cells on coming up with a way to convince Kyran to join the Guardians.
Meanwhile, Kyran encountered a bottleneck while studying the copies of the tablet copies and immediately sought Axil's assistance to see the real ones. Axil did not make things hard for him. She talked to the other members, and after convincing them that Kyran had the ability to decipher all the contents of the tablet, they finally relented.
However, transporting the tablets to Somuli would take time. After all, there was no long-range transmission array available for them to use. Even with Kyran and Loar's advanced knowledge in Array, transmission arrays between several planes would be impossible.
That would not be the case for Kyran when he warped, but the problem was that the tablets were located in a plane that he had never visited before. Thus, he could not warp there directly.
Since transporting the original tablets to Somuli would take some time, Kyran was forced to stop his research. It was not all bad, though. Things in Somuli might have settled down, but they still had a lot of things to sort out internally.
Another thing to take note of was what Kyran planned to do with the planes that had fallen under his protection. When Axil told him about it, he was also surprised.
However, unlike Axil and Loar, who came up with two theories to explain it, Kyran only had one and was likely the real cause— he possessed the Heart of the Cosmos or the Shaiha.
Axil and Loar did not know that Kyran had the Shaiha. Their faction only managed to decipher a small portion of the tablets. Thus, they did not know the other purpose of the Shaiha— the Realm Inheritance.
Kyran encountered that event quite a few times while studying the copies. Unfortunately, because he was only deciphering a copy, many points did not make sense to him. Nonetheless, he managed to confirm that the Shaiha was a necessary part of triggering the Inheritance of the Realm.
In the end, Kyran pretended to accept Axil and Loar's theories and kept his thoughts to himself. He did not tell them about the Shaiha because there was no telling if someone from the Higher Realm could actually spy on their conversation.
Besides, Kyran had an inkling that someone from the Higher Realm was working with Flos's faction. If this was the case, who could say that the Guardians were not working with one either? The Emperor might be expecting the War of the Sovereigns for his entertainment, but there might be beings in the Higher Realm who disliked the idea of the War and assisted the Guardians' endeavor from behind the scenes.
Whether Axil and her fellow members were aware of that assistance, Kyran cared little. He only cared about exposing himself too much before anyone from the Higher Realm. After all, they were far more knowledgeable about the truth behind the Lower Realm's War of the Sovereigns, not to mention the forgotten past of both realms.
In the end, Kyran decided to take the time to sort through his military strength. He also met with the knights who decided to join him, as well as those from the Magical Beast Community, and laid out his terms. All of them agreed to his terms and agreed to become his Sigils.
When Kyran turned them into Sigils, Ames simply watched from the sidelines. Still, she felt conflicted at how easily Kyran turned over more than five thousand Knights, as well as a hundred or so Magical Beasts, in a short span of time.
Turning anyone into Sigils took a huge toll on a dragon's physical stamina and mental fatigue. That was why dragons would take time to turn anyone to Sigils. But Kyran did not seem to be affected that much. Yes, he would get exhausted after turning a hundred or two in a day, but he would be in tip-top shape in no time as long as he could rest for a couple of hours.
In only about two weeks, Kyran successfully turned all the Knights and the few Magical Beasts into Sigils.
While Kyran was busy doing all this, his name had already spread among the Eidums, Armakeans, and Nobles. Of course, he was still recognized as an Imon-spawn or as Nar and not as the outsider Kyran.
During Kyran's rest time, he would meet with some of the Eidums, whom he had grown close to, and teach them Alchemy or combat. If not, he would be meeting with other leaders, like Nahir, Ravan, and the reformed leader of the Nobles, Anshel, to discuss matters concerning the beast-like community and those in Howling Pass.
Apart from these two things that Kyran did during his rest time, he also met with his Servants, who were busy researching why Somuli had little magic energy while possessing rich mana.
As for the automatons, Kyran had them help out in any form of labor. From construction to mining, excavating, rebuilding, and more.
When Loar saw these automatons, he was quite shocked. At the same time, he wanted to strangle Dusk for abandoning Kyran, which in turn voided their agreement that the latter would not take the automatons.
Overall, Kyran was so busy that he rarely had the time to actually rest... again.
Because of this, Cyneah, who had been watching him silently, had grown worried... again.
For the record, after Nachum ascended, the pact Cyneah had with him, and Nahir had weakened. To be precise, Nahir was the only one left holding through the pact. In the end, it was dissolved because Nahir willingly rescinded his end of the pact.
Unfortunately, when this happened, Kyran was busy studying the tablets. He even appeared to have forgotten about it because even after being forced to stop studying the tablets, he had not brought it up, nor did he make any attempt to remove the pact himself. If he did, Cyneah would have happily told him that she was free from it. She would then take the initiative to talk about them.
To Cyneah's chagrin, Kyran seemed to have become distant.
Of course, this was not the case, and she was only overthinking it. As a matter of fact, Kyran wanted to deal with all the things that needed his attention as soon as possible so he could take some time to settle matters with Cyneah. He also wanted to bring her back to the Human plane and make things between them official.
If Cyneah had known what Kyran was thinking, she would likely have been overwhelmed. After all, he was already planning for their future when she was only looking at their present.
Finally, after almost three weeks of going about his business, Kyran got his well-deserved rest— the real deal. He started preparing for his return to the Human plane with Cyneah. However, before he could start with anything, something happened that forced him to leave the Eidum's border.
In the Kingdom of Cretea, quite a lot of Anshel's subjects started to protest after the reformed Anshel gave out new orders, reforming their nation's law.
Euan personally returned to the border to ask Kyran's assistance. Initially, Euan only planned to take Kyran along, but then Cyneah took the initiative and also requested to join them.
