Chapter 2593: Forlorn Heart

Chapter 2593: Forlorn Heart

In the meantime, Xie Daoyun gradually regained consciousness. She was temporarily dazed as she surveyed her foreign surroundings. Memories were surfacing in her mind, filling her in about what had happened while she was possessed. Despite stealing control over her body, Xihe hadn’t sealed off her senses, so Xie Daoyun recalled most things that had happened. In particular, when she thought about what Xihe had done with big brother Zu...

While she was berating Xihe for being shameless in her mind, she noticed that Zu An was looking for something. She asked, “What’s wrong?”

“Big sister Xie, you’re awake! The Mermaid Queen has gone missing, and big brother Zu is searching for her.” Ji Xiaoxi quickly explained the situation to her. The two were resting beneath a tree, looking after each other.

“The Mermaid Queen...” Xie Daoyun recalled the Ocean races’ renowned beauty and the intimate moments she'd shared with Zu An. Big brother Zu is a playboy! But the Mermaid Queen truly resembles Miss Shang...

Meanwhile, Zu An grabbed the Goddess of Wu Mountain’s arms and asked, “Didn’t you say she would be here? What happened?”

The Goddess of Wu Mountain winced in pain. Zu An snapped out of his daze and quickly released her. “My apologies. I got too anxious.”

The Goddess of Wu Mountain didn’t mind something this minor. She consoled him, saying, “Calm down. Let me see what happened first.”

Zu An was surprised to hear that. Is she able to peer into the past?

Sensing his confusion, the Goddess of Wu Mountain flung her sleeves as she explained, “All of the fog shrouding Wu Mountain is my eye.”

The surrounding fog converged into a screen that projected everything that had happened on Wu Mountain while they were away.

...

The Mermaid Queen nervously paced to and fro across Wu Mountain’s peak. The changing colors in the sky and the occasional deafening explosions made her so worried that every second was a torture to her. She was worried sick about Zu An. She wanted to help, but she had no idea where he was. With her current cultivation, a mere shockwave could cost her life if she got embroiled in the war between the Shamans and Fiends. If so, not only would she be of no use to Zu An, but she would also never meet him again.

She remembered the Goddess of Wu Mountain’s warnings before she left. Despite her anxiety, her rationality still prevailed. She wasn't on the main battlefield, but the shockwaves rippling from the distance were destructive enough to shatter mountains and crack earth. And yet, when they reached Wu Mountain, a mysterious light always neutralized the energy.

Just as she was feeling awed by Wu Mountain’s extraordinary qualities, she suddenly sensed something and turned around. A figure was flashing up the mountain. When she noticed that the figure was carrying a bow, she was initially happy —she thought that Zu An had returned. She was about to rush forward to welcome him back when she noticed that the figure was different and halted her footsteps.

That figure soon reached the mountain peak. It was indeed not her lover, but a man whom she had met once before, Feng Meng. He was the one who had previously led a platoon to capture her.

Feng Meng looked at her with admiring eyes. “As expected of the Chang clan’s renowned Saintess. You are gorgeous!”

Sensing he was up to something, the Mermaid Queen put up her guard. “What do you want?”

Feng Meng grabbed the bow he was carrying and gently stroked it. “The world sees Yi as the world’s number one archer. No matter how hard I work, I am still nothing more than second to the world. I refuse to accept that. Now, there is a way for me to prove my superiority over him. His fiancée is going to be my woman!”

The Mermaid Queen’s face darkened. She quickly formed a hand seal to unleash water arrows on the other party.

Feng Meng easily shot down her water arrows one after another. “You dare to use arrows against me? Arrogant!”

The Mermaid Queen didn’t answer. She continued unleashing skills on Feng Meng.

However, Feng Meng nocked and shot arrows so fast that it left afterimages in his wake. He dissipated the Mermaid Queen’s skills easily with an arrow each, leaving the latter with a lurching heart. She had crossed blows with Feng Meng when the latter pursued her, and she knew that his strength was far superior to hers.

While leisurely shooting down her water skills, Feng Meng chuckled, “I’ll spare your life if you hand the immortal medicine over to me.”

The Mermaid Queen was startled. “How do you know it’s with me?”

Zu An had secretly slipped her the immortal medicine as they parted ways. Outsiders shouldn’t have known about that.

“Heh! Your movements are all within my master’s...” Feng Meng noticed something halfway through and hurriedly stopped talking. “Hmph! Cut the crap and hand the immortal medicine over. I might consider sparing your life if you do so. Otherwise, I don’t mind taking both your body and the immortal medicine.”

Looking at his vile smile, the Mermaid Queen knew better than to trust his words. There was no way he would let her off the hook just because she handed over the immortal medicine. He was merely trying to grind down her desire to resist. As the Ocean races’ number one beauty, she had come into contact with countless people who harbored malicious intentions toward her. Her instincts about this were unmatched by others.

Thus, she'd chosen to engage Feng Meng while fighting him off to stall for time, hoping that the others would rush back in the meantime. Unfortunately, no one returned.

Feng Meng wasn’t a fool either. It didn’t take him long to figure out her intention.

The Mermaid Queen realized her time of reckoning had come. In this critical moment, she stuffed the immortal medicine into her mouth and jumped down Wu Mountain’s peak. Feng Meng wanted to grab her, only for her to shove him aside with a palm strike.

An expert of her caliber wouldn’t die even when jumping off a cliff, but it would be a different story if she dissipated her ki and unraveled her protection. Gazing into the distance, the Mermaid Queen left a tear droplet behind as she murmured, “Farewell, my lover...”

Looking at this sight, Zu An felt as if his blood had frozen in place. He had never felt such piercing pain in his chest before.

The Goddess of Wu Mountain grabbed him out of worry. “Don’t do anything silly. Watch to the end first; there might be more to the situation.”

Zu An mustered his courage to look at the screen in the sky. A white glow suddenly enveloped the Mermaid Queen, and her fall suddenly stopped. Instead, she began floating upward. Feng Meng was overjoyed. He flew over to capture her, only for the white light to jolt him away. An ethereal melody played from the sky as flower petals and divine light fell on the Mermaid Queen. That added an air of divinity to her already gorgeous self.

The Goddess of Wu Mountain exclaimed, “She’s ascending to immortality! And it looks like a high-tier ascension.”

“Ascending to immortality?” Zu An’s eyes reddened as he finally saw a sliver of hope.

“Indeed. There are other ways to achieve immortality aside from overcoming a heavenly tribulation, such as consuming potent world herbs. That immortal medicine was innately born, and it is without doubt one of the most potent herbs in the world. It helped her ascend straight to immortality.”

Zu An stared at the screen.

The Mermaid Queen continued ascending. Feng Meng, hindered by the laws of heaven, could only watch in frustration as she ascended. A moon suddenly appeared in the sky and welcomed the Mermaid Queen into it.

Zu An’s expression turned weird. He suddenly recalled the poem ‘Chang’e should regret stealing the spirit medicine, with her forlorn heart consoled only by blue sky and emerald sea.’

He hadn’t expected the Mermaid Queen to become the real Chang’e, and he wouldn’t have expected there to be such a background story to Chang’e stealing the spirit medicine and ascending to the moon.
