Journey of the Fate Destroying Emperor
Chapter 1576: Master & Disciple TalkChapter 1576: Master & Disciple Talk
Wang Wei had a pondering look. "Don’t you feel that something is wrong about these attackers?"
"The assembly was the perfect setting for an attack," Yan Hai nodded. "With such a terrible curse, they could have eliminated at least 20% of the top powerhouses attending, forcing them to reincarnate."
"You’re being conservative. As long as they act quickly enough before Maitreya could react, at least 50% of the people attending would have been corrupted," Wang Wei said.
"And you’re underestimating how much experience the people in that room have."
"My point is: why wait now to attack? Only a few people left the event, and more importantly, Maitreya is now the court’s official Saint, probably making her more powerful," Wang Wei continued.
"Maybe they couldn’t enter?" Yan Hai replied. "Ying Zheng might have erected the Great Wall out of paranoia, but it proved to be useful on this occasion."
"No, he activated the Great Wall to keep you guys hostage and forced you to sign his proposition."
"What? What are you talking about?"
Wang Wei then explained what he and Wu Hong noticed during the negotiation led by Maitreya. He also told her about his deduction about Ying Zheng’s plan.
"Damn it. I can’t believe danger was so close and I couldn’t sense anything," Yan Hai cursed. Her body released a terrifying sword will, scratching the Origin Carriage.
"Focus," Wang Wei said, and she exhaled.
"What exactly are you getting out?" Yan Hai asked.
"You said it yourself: the assembly was the best place for an attack. Now, imagine these things successfully infiltrate the Ancestral Dragon City, waiting for the right time for a suicidal attack.
"Then, Ying Zheng — who had recently gained control of his transcendent artifact and was prepared to use it in the assembly—had full control of everything occurring in his city. He noticed these intruders and maybe even caught them."
"But why? Wouldn’t it be better to allow the attack to happen? I mean, he would have weakened all the Overlords overnight," Yan Hai commented.
"An attack on the assembly would have ruined Qin’s reputation and affected their luck."
"And he needs the luck to control the artifact."
"Exactly. More importantly, it would be suspicious if everybody was affected, but Qin was intact, or only suffered minor destruction."
"So, what is his goal? Does he want to study these war weapons and use their power? In that case, he would not have released them as soon as the assembly ended," Yan Hai stated before squinting. "Everything leads to Maitreya. He knew her kind personality — he even used it during the negotiation. So, he could deduce she would not allow these creatures to run rampant. Does he want to test her strength?"
"That’s the most likely scenario, but it felt a little wasteful to utilize these things in such a manner. I expect more from Ying Zheng," Wang Wei said. His eyes suddenly glowed silver-white as the River of Fate Projection materialized behind him.
However, blood started dripping from his nose a few seconds after he started. Wang Wei calmly wiped it out. "How long has it been since I suffered backlash from divination?"
"Now we know for sure the power of the transcendent was involved."
"Indeed," Wang Wei nodded.
"The question is whether it’s from Ying Zheng’s artifact, the presence of Maitreya, or the people behind these war machines."
"I can determine that much," Wang Wei said as he summoned his Proving Dao Artifact and transformed it into three Fate Gu. He muttered something, and a magic circle materialized underneath the Fate Gus. The one on the right released a slight golden hue, the one in the middle had a small golden dragon surrounding it, and the last one emanated a strange aura.
Wang Wei finished his incantation, and the Gu in the middle and the left suddenly screamed before a bright flame enveloped and incinerated them, leaving only the Gu with Buddhist Light.
"So, he is involved," Yan Hai squinted. "I’ll warn Brother Qiyuan about this. I’ll also order our shadows to focus on Qin for a while."
"No, you should order them to evacuate instead," Wang Wei said.
"That’s right. With Ying Zheng’s new power, he’ll find all of them soon enough. By then, their only fate would be elimination or being used as pawns to feed us false information," Yan Hai realized.
Wang Wei was deep in thought, thinking about what Ying Zheng’s goal may be. He was not satisfied with the conclusion that the latter was only testing Maitreya’s current strength. Unfortunately, even by the time he arrived home, he had no idea.
Yan Hai tasked him to oversee the reallocation of the mortals, so he could not immediately run to the Origin Seal Continent. So, for a while, Wang Wei had to run out of the sect’s territory to help mortals move to the designated dimension.
...
Heavenly Beauty Palace:
Xiao Tiandi waited before a closed room, walking back and forth. The hall was quiet, with only the sounds of his footsteps reverberating between the walls. As soon as Xiao Tiandi sensed the room was unlocked, he rushed inside.
"Master, are you alright?"
"I’m okay," Xun Junyao said with a slightly pale complexion. "They only absorbed a small portion of my energy."
"Damn Qin Bastard," Xiao Tiandi said with gritted teeth and clenched hands. His agitated aura caused the harmonious Dao Rhymes his body released to become chaotic, releasing a terrible Dao Sound.
"Calm down," Xun Junyoa reached out to take his arm and forced him to sit down before her. "Anyway, they allowed me to see the pre-completion painting, which should allow me to reach the Paragon Peak in about 200,000 Yuan Epoch."
200,000 Yuan Epoch was only 20,000 Yuan Epoch inside a Time Acceleration Formation, with ten times the acceleration.
"But did they ask your permission for this exchange?" Xiao Tiandi asked, making Xun Junyao quiet. The Overlords might treat her with kindness because of her beauty and existence ninety percent of the time. However, when it comes to their schemes or benefits, they will treat her no differently from any loose cultivator.
"You’ve known for a long time that’s how the world operates: the strong don’t ask the weak for their permission to dictate their fate," Xun Junyao sighed.
"We don’t have to be a part of the weak," Xiao Tiandi replied. "Do you think they would have dared to do such a thing to you if you were a member of the Origin Seal Continent?"
"Where is this coming from?" Xun Junyao asked.
"I know you feel weird about the strange relationship between Wang Wei, you, and the Empress. However, Wang Wei has made it abundantly clear that he wants to separate the fate line between you," Xun Junyao continued. "More importantly, you’ve had a relationship with Empress Wu way before Wang Wei showed up."
"That’s the issue," Xun Junyao said. "She must have known we have the same fate line. How can I know she did not approach me with malice? That she wanted to keep me close because I was a potential competitor?" Discovering Wu Hong’s relationship has altered Xun Junyao’s perspective on many past events.
"Master, do you think Empress Wu would allow a fate line to determine her love life? The truth is, it’s a miracle that Wang Wei could successfully woo her."
"Your argument would have been more effective if she had not kept that fate line."
"Master, you saw how much effort Wang Wei had to spend to break your fate line. Can you imagine how much more challenging hers must be?"
Xun Junyao had no words. She tried to remove the Fate Line herself, but even using her [Perfect Aura] did so little. To be fair, most of the Fate Line is already broken, leaving one last major blow to be eliminated. Unfortunately, none of Xun Junyao’s attempts were enough for the final blow.
"I think you should talk to her," Xiao Tiandi said. "Tell her about your concerns and address them directly. The Empress has always helped you and has never shown any signs of harming you. We can view her in a negative light when she has ever shown us kindness."
Xun Junyao frowned. "Why are you suddenly so invested in joining the Origin Seal Continent? Is my Heavenly Beauty Palace suddenly not enough for you?"
"I believe with all my heart that with enough time, you could bring our palace to the highest level," Xiao Tiandi said with straight posture and a look of conviction. "However, time is running out — not only for us, but for everybody. The disaster is coming, and it’s time to admit we may need a towering tree to lie under to ensure our survival."
"...Maybe you have a point. But have you thought about how awkward the future will be?"
"What do you mean?"
"After they get married one day. Wouldn’t the Origin Seal Continent and the Dao Opening Sect merge?" Xun Junyao said. "Think how awkward it would be that we’re all in the same faction."
"There is no way they would merge," Xiao Tiandi shook his head. "Forget how Empress Wu would never accept such a thing, but the logistics would complicate things. The Dao Opening Sect is extremely united, but adding the people of the continent, who are fiercely loyal only to Empress Wu, would undermine that unity."
Xiao Tiandi’s words were only the most surface analysis on why a merger was not possible, but he got his point across.
