Last Challenge (8)
""Let's depart!""
With Joule and Feat on my shoulders, Mile and Bolt on Kaiser's, and Vector riding on Radian's back, we set off, creating an atmosphere that seemed a bit out of place.
"…Is this really okay, considering we're inside a dungeon?"
""It's fine, it's fine!""
Allen and Elena insisted that we stay like this for a while.
""Ah! Hading off now!""
They wanted to handle the fighting themselves. Well, they've been taking down most of the monsters so far anyway, but now they were even more eager to face the enemies.
"… This arrangement isn't just to keep Joule and Vector from getting their share of the prey, right? It's not like the kids are manipulating the situation, is it?"
(Ah! That might be true!)(My oh my, Allen and Elena are such mischievous children. But since I'm happy with this, I’ll let it slide.)
(Yeah, as long as it's not dangerous, let's let them take the lead for now.)
Joule and Feat fully agreed with my suspicion but seemed willing to go along with the kids' plans.
"Takumi, don't worry. If something goes wrong, I'll step in to help immediately."
As I was slightly concerned whether this was really okay, Kaiser reassured me. He's become quite attuned to others' feelings lately.
(Eh~ Radian wants to play too!)
(In that case, I'll go with you.)
Radian seemed eager to move around more, so he and Bolt joined Allen and Elena in running ahead.
(Oh? Radian is going to play? Then I'll hop off!)
Since Vector would get in the way on Radian’s back, he quickly jumped down and trotted over to my feet.
(Alright, Niichan! Pick me up, please!)
"Hmm? Oh, sure."
Vector asked to be picked up, so I lifted the little lion cub into my arms.
"Now that I think about it, this is the first time I've picked you up, Vector."
(That's right!)
Vector had never been small enough to carry before.
"... Mhm."
For some reason, Kaiser picked up Mile from his shoulder and placed her on my head.
Now, I had a small animal on each shoulder, one in my arms, and one on top of my head—was this a fluff festival?
"Kaiser, what exactly are you trying to do?"
"Just felt like it."
"… I see."
Apparently, there was no deep meaning behind it.
""We're back, whoa!?""
Before Allen and Elena could greet us, they cried out in surprise at seeing me.
"Everyone's gathered on-"
"Oniichan?"
"Welcome back. It's a fluff festival, isn't it?"
""Yeah! Fluffy-fluff~""
"Allen wants to join~"
"Elena too~"
Allen and Elena clung to me, eager to join the fluffy gathering.
"Oniichan, do you have enough fluff?"
"Do you want Allen and Elena to become fluffy too?"
"… Huh?"
What did they mean by "become fluffy"?
"Um… what do you mean?"
""Our clothes!""
"Hmm? Oh! The costumes, right?"
""Yes!""
Rebecca-san had made a few fun costumes for us, like rabbit, cat, bird, sheep, and dragon ones. If they wore those, they'd definitely be fluffy.
"But no, it's a dungeon, so wearing bulky costumes isn't a good idea."
""I see~ too bad.""
Since the costumes would make it hard to move during battle, I had to make them give up on the idea for now. Fortunately, they backed down without any fuss. ṙаNO͍ᛒËş
"By the way, did you get any figurines from the last battle’s loot?"
"Oh, right!"
"You see, Joule’s was there!"
“Oh, really?”
Apparently, they managed to get a Joule figurine.
(Me? Yay~)
"Oh, this one’s cute too."
(It really is! I'm so happy!)
"Now all that's left is Bolt's."
(I'll do my best!)
Despite our best efforts as we continued defeating monsters, we hadn't found Bolt’s figurine yet.
(Am I grouped with the yellows, after all?)
"N~?"
Bolt was mostly golden all over, though parts of his wings and belly were a pale white. But it wasn't pure white—more like a light yellow.
"Yellow, huh~… I wonder if there's a better chance of finding it in the next area, probably the Resin Forest?"
If the trend so far continued, the next few floors would likely be the green, red, blue, and white resin forests. But loot wasn’t always tied to those colors, so it didn’t necessarily mean the figurines would follow that pattern.
""Shall we go ahead?""
"Bolt, what do you think? We could try our luck exploring further, and if it doesn't work out, we can always come back here."
(Yeah, I'd rather take a chance and move ahead than keep trying here.)
So, we decided to clear the 30th floor and move on to the 31st.
""We found the boss room!""
Though it wasn't really much of a search—Allen and Elena had spotted the boss room almost immediately.
""Can we open it?""
"Yes, go ahead."
Once everyone entered the boss room and the door closed, the center of the room glowed, and the boss appeared.
"That looks like… a Horned Deer."
""We’re going in!""
"Wait!? Watch out for its horns!"
""Okaay!""
After identifying the enemy, Allen and Elena immediately rushed at it. The Horned Deer had impressive antlers, so I warned the kids to be cautious, and they responded cheerfully.
""Take this!""
(Kyuarr—!)
Allen and Elena launched a flying kick, but the Horned Deer deflected it by swinging its head and using its antlers.
""Not done yet~!""
(Gyuaa~~~!)
Though it looked like they were knocked back, they skillfully used the antlers as a springboard to jump into the air, delivering a downward heel kick. This time, the attack landed directly on the Horned Deer’s body.
""One more!""
After landing, Allen and Elena split to either side, gained some distance, and then charged again with dropkicks.
(Gyuarr~~~)
Unable to keep up with the kids’ speed, the Horned Deer took both kicks head-on.
""This is the end! ――Water Bullet.""
(Gyu… Gyuarr…)
The Horned Deer, hit by their magic attack, let out a final cry and collapsed, defeated.
