Chapter 1130: 1130 Modern Problems
Wolfe considered the issue for a moment before Rail handed him a copy of the relevant law, provided by one of the Pentacle Members, who had brought a memory crystal with the necessary information.
It was a good thing that someone did, as Wolfe hadn’t thought to include copies of the laws from all of the world’s nations in their preparations.
Most of the world was under the One World Government to begin with, so it had been a fairly unified transfer. It was only his own continent that would have all these little discrepancies.
“By the letter of the law, the actual marriage is not needed. Only the public declaration that the heir has chosen his bride is included in the wording. That is why he has received the token of leadership, despite not being formally sworn in as leader.
We can officially recognize the marriage now, if you prefer, though I suspect that the bride would rather that there was a proper ceremony at the earliest convenience.” Wolfe informed them.
“Especially considering that she’s with child.” Cassie added.
The magic of a Lust Demon that had spread through the castle had the side effect of increasing fertility, but it was mostly up to luck that their first time together had been the winning shot that ensured an heir to their nation.
From the back of the room, Wolfe heard a man growl, and a number of other men stepped up to restrain the girl’s father from beating the boy to death.
He had already been mad, but the notice that his beloved daughter was pregnant before marriage, and now the whole world knew it, was simply intolerable.
Cassie realized from his response that she probably could have kept that part to herself, but it had totally slipped her mind.
The girl blushed, then straightened her back.
“Lady Cassandra, or is it Queen Cassandra now? If it suits you, I would agree to do the wedding ceremony right this instant, so as not to besmirch the honour of our parents.” She declared.
Her groom nodded in agreement, and Cassie waved her hand, creating armour spell amulets for both of them.
“Go, put these on and return.” She informed them with a smile.
While they left, Wolfe turned to address the other two pairs that hadn’t recognized the leadership of the Continental Representatives.
“So, you wish to be independent nations, separate from the governance of the remainder of the world, yes?” Wolfe asked.
Both men nodded, and the larger of the two, a middle-aged human man with a neatly trimmed beard, began to speak.
“My people do not recognize the right of any outsider to rule over us. We do not recognize the self-appointed continental representatives, and we most certainly do not recognize a Magi as our superior, much less as the leader of the world.”
Wolfe nodded. “I won’t force you. If you wish to have trade with the nations under my leadership, we can arrange a negotiation at a later date.”
That seemed to startle him, but the father of the boy who had left to change for his wedding seemed to realize what was going on immediately.
With the change in leadership, there would be a whole new set of rules incoming. The boundaries that separated the nations were about to cease to exist as they all fell under the umbrella of Wolfe’s leadership, and that meant the few regions who chose not to join would basically become segregated regions, like a park or a game preserve, but for a civilization.
They would have to negotiate and trade for outside goods, where the rest of the world could simply purchase them freely. It would put them at a huge disadvantage, and their nations were already struggling with so few magic users, and without the Guardians who had been helping the rest of the world.
They had originally been assigned them, but they had refused their assistance, and the ones who had come to help had agreed not to force them, and had instead chosen to observe, as their assistance in any form was not welcome.
It took a few seconds, but the final man managed to come up with an idea that worked for his people.
“I would like to swear a modified contract.” He announced.
“Certainly, please, go ahead. If it is acceptable, we will confirm it.” Wolfe agreed.
“The Independent Territory of Lentorkadia, through its current leader, Duke Charles Lentor the fourteenth, declares that from this day forward, they will not oppose the governing decisions of the Noxus Monarchs, where it does not directly pertain to the Independent Territory of Lentorkadia. Furthermore, we do swear that our territories will maintain the principles of open markets and the free movement of World Citizens between the Territories.”
Wolfe considered that for a moment, looking for loopholes. “Swear that you will uphold the rights and privileges of the people, as set forth in the laws governing the world as a whole, and we have a deal.”
“We have an accord.” Duke Lentor agreed, and a token appeared in his hand, with his own crest on it, and the Noxus Family crest on the other.
“That is settled. Now, we just need to wait for our lovely bride and groom to return, and we can finish the afternoon’s ceremonies.
Don’t worry about wedding gifts, you can send them later if you wish, but as we rushed the process, we will provide them for the newlyweds.” Wolfe announced.
Moments later, the new couple walked out of separate rooms. The groom was in a tuxedo with a red silk shirt that matched the colour of the tie he had on before, while the bride was in a silk and lace wedding gown encrusted with jewels.
She looked positively stunning, and the simplicity of her daily hairstyle was hidden under a white veil covered in white embroidery of flowers.
“Do we have someone who would like to host the ceremony?” Wolfe asked.
The girl’s father stepped up with a vicious smile on his face.
“If you don’t mind, King Noxus, I would like to officiate this ceremony. It would put my mind at ease.”
Wolfe chuckled. These were sure to be some interesting wedding vows.
