There were a few options that Wolfe managed to immediately eliminate from contention for the head maid position, before they had even entered Noxus Castle.

If the rest of the staff shared wine from the dinner leftovers to celebrate the fact that they would never see them again, it was not hard to guess what sort of person they were. In one case, the new Head Maid even led the staff in a prayer that the woman would not be sent back.

That one would have to be put somewhere without any power, if they didn’t reject her outright.

It was all very short notice, so they were only going to get those who were already looking for a transfer, and those whose current employers didn’t cause too much of a fuss about it.

They were sure to have missed some qualified candidates whose employers were loath to let them go and didn’t pass on the request.

That was unfortunate, but it would also reduce the ill will that poaching top talents from their employers would create.

Even if they were the very best for the job, having allies all over three worlds mad at you for stealing their employees wasn’t the best option.

So, Wolfe waited patiently as the ladies entered the room, and the butler candidates took their bags.

Apparently, that was part of the request that had been sent out. The applicants were to arrive ready for work, and then everything they needed would be provided for them. So, each applicant arrived with a suitcase of personal items.

The lower ranked candidates likely wouldn’t show up with much, as most of the places they were coming from didn’t pay well enough or give them a large private room to be collecting personal items.

But these were already highly respected staff members.

“Welcome ladies. This is Noxus Castle, our new home. Forgive that new castle smell, we are still in the final stages of preparing it for residency, and you are among the first to arrive.

The only ones who got here before you are the two candidates for Head Butler, as there were only two applicants.

The confused grey haired woman stepped forward in her formal black dress with the long white apron common for all head maids.

“Your employer and your young charge speak incredibly highly of you, and your coworkers adored you. They’re currently sharing very heartwarming stories about your time with them.

As such, I would like to put you in consideration for the position of Nanny to the Noxus Family children.”

“That would be an honour. I do love working with children. I am also a fully trained midwife, but I suspect that your witches can do a better job of it, as they’re using magic to help them along.”

Wolfe smiled at her forthright nature. “That is likely true, but knowledge and experience are always valuable, even if you don’t have the magical skills to address an issue that they do. I will put you in consideration for the position, and when I find others who might fit the requirements, you will be consulted.

One Nanny for children born so close together might be fine, but I suspect they won’t be the only children in this castle soon.”

Belle winked at him. “Big plans coming up?”

Cassie and Ella both began to laugh. “No, when he advanced, his technique for causing infertility stopped working. Now, he’s high risk all the time, and even with protection, there is a chance that the mana in his body will follow the intent of the sperm cells and cause a pregnancy anyhow.”

The Butler Candidate from King Petros’ household chuckled.

Ten thousand children sounded a bit excessive to Wolfe. One hundred might be possible, but the women would likely lock themselves in a room if he tried for more than four a century out of them.
