Chapter 1103: 1103 Noxus Castle

Wolfe’s team gathered around a whiteboard spell and prepared to lay out their plans.

“I’m thinking a pentagram patterned layout, so we can use the towers for spell focuses in an emergency. That will also make for a decent standard of coverage for the defenders along the wall if we should be attacked, while allowing mostly unrestricted views of the valley from the central keep.” Wolfe suggested.

Nola nodded. “That’s an important consideration. You need to be able to see the valley from the inside of the castle. But with cliffs all around, the walls don’t have to be huge, so it won’t be too hard to see over them.

Why don’t we make the central spire a nice tall one, with a large top balcony, like the one in Forest Grove? That will give visitors a space to sit and watch the valley, and we can use it to get some fresh air if we put our rooms up there.”

Cassie chuckled. “You’re quite serious about your tower idea, aren’t you?”

The Nymph nodded happily. “Yes, but I’m also Air Elemental affinity, so I like the fresh air all the time, and being in a tower gives you the best airflow.

I know that a lot of the others are used to being underground, or in the forest, but I like being up high.”

“That’s a good point. We can accommodate the forest and deep underground sorts beneath the castle itself, but the ones who like sunshine and fresh air will want to be in the main keep.

We will also be hosting most of our guests here, so the design will need to have grand ballrooms, dining halls, multiple kitchens and some guest rooms for important visitors that shouldn’t be shipped off to the other side of the valley.” Wolfe added.

They all began to draw ideas, tweaking the castle design bit by bit until they got something that they liked.

It was decidedly Fae in design, but not in the blended with nature way. It was what a human would envision as a Fae Princess’ castle should look like.

Risa wandered over to see what sort of theme they were going with. “Oh my goddess. It’s adorable. Oh, if we just added some details here and here. Yes, that makes it look a lot like the fancier Demonic Castles without ruining the princess vibe.”

Wolfe looked it over again. “You know, if we put large windows facing in, we can throw over rope bridges from the central keep, so we can move staff to the towers quickly.”

Risa looked at him as if he said something crazy. “But if a tower falls, the enemy will be able to do the same. You want the towers to be isolated, with windows only large enough to shoot out of.

The enchantments on the stones of the towers are the second or third line of defence after the main barriers are broken, so they can defend your ranged attackers from spells and arrows.”

That made sense. The Wrath Demon was the only one in the group who had actual practical experience with building fortifications for battle. Wolfe had built a few, but he had never really thought beyond the most basic of strategies on how they should function.

In contrast, Risa had trained for battle her whole life. Her people loved combat more than most species loved sports, as much as the Dwarves loved the forge. There really wasn’t a great comparison for how much they actually enjoyed training and preparing for battle.

Even their bedrooms were set up for combat readiness, cleared of tripping hazards, with furniture placed, so the defender would have as much advantage as possible.

It took hours before they even had the basic design down, but once they did, they were ready to begin the terraforming.

The top of the mountain would be partially levelled, then the walls would be rebuilt with blocks so that they could be individually enchanted for durability, instead of one enchantment for the whole wall, which was the only way to effectively enchant a wall created in a single piece.

“Who wants to create the wall? We will start at the outside and work in, then begin on the underground levels for the Pentacle members. The gardens and such will be on the other side of the valley, so this side won’t need much.” Wolfe asked.

“We vote for Risa to make the walls, and then we can help with the artistic parts.” Francisca suggested.

She was one of the new human Pentacle members, and an enthusiastic part of the engineering team that was working on new vehicles and other designs.

“Alright, I will start the arrays to do the shaping, and then you can give it the creative guidance that it needs.” Wolfe agreed.

Risa chuckled. “This is a bit like playing with building bricks at home. Wrath Demon kids build forts as part of their training, this really brings me back, even if I’ve got to make the blocks.”

Wolfe shook his head as he levelled the top of the mountain and began creating the three-metre by one metre blocks for the wall, along with the smaller ones for the tower.

With him doing the shaping and placing the reinforcing inscriptions on them, the blocks could be created faster than Risa and Francisca could move them, even using magic to place them to their vision and the blueprint.

So, Wolfe added a bit more effort to have the thousands of small blocks create the shell of the tower on their own. They interlocked with grooves carved into their slightly sloped surfaces, but once they were in place, additional spells would be added to bond them together without mortar.

Even if the spells failed, the walls and tower would not fall, they would be locked in place, and Wolfe briefly wondered what a nonmagical society would think if he opened a portal and placed a tower like this somewhere in their world.

Even putting it somewhere in the Fallen Empire would confuse people with the construction methods, which came from Wolfe’s Inheritance spell and Risa’s guidance.

He might have to try it later.
