Chapter 1280: Avoiding (4)

At night, the couple sat cross-legged on the bed and looked at each other, neither talking.
Mu Yangling gathered her breath and said, “Haoran, I have something to tell you.”
“I have something to tell you too.”
Just like how a television drama would play out, Mu Yangling immediately said, “I’ll go first.”
Qi Haoran had not thought of how to explain it to Ah Ling, so he nodded nonchalantly and said, “Alright, you go first.”
Mu Yangling carefully looked at his expression and said, “Haoran, why don’t we leave early in the morning? Anyway, we don’t have much luggage. There’s no need to stay any longer and fend against their attacks and put up with them.”
Qi Haoran paused in surprise and blinked as he watched Ah Ling look at him eagerly. Meanwhile, he felt overjoyed that there was no need for him to be the one to raise such an embarrassing thing.
Qi Haoran coughed lightly and said solemnly, “Even if we don’t have much luggage, it will take at least two to three days to pack up the clothes, herbs, and daily necessities…”
“No need, no need.” Mu Yangling waved her hand and said, “We’ll leave first with light luggage. Let Rain and the others slowly pack up the remaining things and let them catch up later.”
Qi Haoran said reluctantly, “Alright, we’ll do as you say.”
Qi Haoran pulled the blanket over Ah Ling and said softly, “It’s very late. Hurry up and sleep. Since we’re setting off tomorrow, we have to wake up early.”
Mu Yangling didn’t expect to convince Qi Haoran so easily, so she was still a little dizzy. When he pushed her down onto the bed, she still couldn’t react.
After a while, she turned around to face him and asked, “You agreed just like that?”
Qi Haoran said vaguely, “When have I not agreed to anything you mentioned?”
Mu Yangling thought about it and accepted this reason.
Since the couple had decided to leave the next day with light luggage, they naturally woke up early. Other than Little Bear, the other children left with them.
Qi Haoran stood in the courtyard and watched as everyone packed their luggage. When Mu Yangling draped a cloak over him, Qi Haoran patted her hand and said, “I’m going to the palace to see Big Brother and fetch Little Bear out. I have something to tell him.”
“Go ahead, I’ll take care of things at home.”
It was only the fifth watch, and the curfew on the streets had just ended.
Not long after Qi Haoran left the house, he saw a carriage parked at the corner. He hurriedly stopped his horse and went forward.
Fan Zijin lifted the curtain and said to him, “Let’s take the carriage into the palace. We can talk on the way there.”
Thus, Qi Haoran handed the horse to the guard behind him.
Seeing Fan Zijin again, Qi Haoran’s expression remained solemn.
Fan Zijin took the kettle on the stove and made him a cup of hot tea. After handing the cup to him, he said, “You won’t be away for long. I’ll see to it that you come back in glory.”
Qi Haoran rolled his eyes at him and said, “Alright, I’ll wait!”
Fan Zijin smiled and asked, “How did you convince Ah Ling?”
Qi Haoran instantly said smugly, “I didn’t need to convince her. Ah Ling took the initiative to mention it.”
Fan Zijin paused and asked suspiciously, “Why would she think of leaving today?”
If not for the fact that he was well-informed and noticed some abnormalities, he would not have suggested Haoran and his family leave at this moment.
Qi Haoran’s expression darkened. “Royal Sister-in-law came yesterday.”
Qi Haoran naturally shared Fan Zijin’s doubts too. Hence, when he woke up early in the morning, he called Spring over for questioning. Only then did he learn that the Empress had secretly come to their home yesterday.
This could only mean that the Emperor wanted him to leave immediately.
Since even the Emperor wanted him to retreat temporarily, it could be seen how united the officials were this time.
Qi Haoran sneered and said, “These people form alliances for personal gain, but they each have their own interests. While I take action outside, you can investigate in the capital. I don’t believe that I can’t break their alliance.”
Fan Zijin nodded repeatedly. As long as Qi Haoran was willing to leave, he would agree to anything.
The cousins entered the palace to see Qi Xiuyuan with solemn expressions.
When Qi Xiuyuan saw his brother, he sighed in his heart, but on the surface, he looked very stern. He reprimanded, “You’re not allowed to cause trouble after leaving the capital. Do heed Ah Ling’s advice.” Then, he said, “Although you’re going out to sightsee this time, you’ve got to bring along sufficient guards and secret guards. Do you know how many people are eager to kill you now? You should bring along some trusted men from the Forbidden Troops.”
Qi Haoran waved his hand and said, “No need. I’m taking all the guards and secret guards in the residence with me. There’s no need for the Forbidden Troops.”
Stunned, Qi Xiuyuan asked, “If you take all your men away, what about Little Bear?”
Qi Haoran asked curiously, “Isn’t Little Bear staying in the East Palace? There are always guards and secret guards around him.”
Qi Xiuyuan was speechless. “You’re just going to leave these few people for him?”
Qi Haoran licked his lips and smiled. “Then why don’t Big Brother arrange a few more men to protect him?”
This was clearly asking him for more secret guards.
Qi Xiuyuan couldn’t help but want to throw the book on the table at him. But at the thought that he was soon to leave, he couldn’t bear to, so he threw down the book in his hand and glared at him. “Your son is already waiting at the palace entrance. Get lost. You’re not allowed to come back without an edict this time.”
Knowing that his big brother had agreed to allocate manpower to Little Bear, Qi Haoran happily dragged Fan Zijin away.
Not only was Little Bear waiting at the entrance of the palace, but Little Treasure was also waiting there.
Their eyes were red, as if they had just cried. When they saw Qi Haoran, Little Bear immediately lowered his head in sadness and apologized. “Daddy, it’s all my fault. I caused trouble for you.”
Little Treasure also admitted his mistake. “Fourth Uncle, we really didn’t expect the courtiers to have such a big reaction. In the past, it was fine even if we waived the preferential treatment of exempting them from farm taxes. Who knew that this time, just by proposing an official reform, they actually…”
Little Treasure lowered his head and said sadly, “It’s all our fault. We didn’t consider it carefully and caused trouble for Fourth Uncle and Fourth Aunt.”
The two children were woken up early in the morning and were informed that Qi Haoran’s family was leaving the capital today.
No longer three-year-olds, they weren’t naive enough to believe that they were simply going out of the capital to sightsee.
Seeing as they were leaving in such a hurry, and everyone was leaving except Little Bear, it was obvious that they were going away to avoid trouble. The two of them didn’t expect things to turn out this way, so the brothers cried for a long time.
Qi Haoran did not explain the nature of his departure, nor did he comfort them. He only said, “There’s no turning back. Since you’ve already started, carry on with the reforms. We’ll come back one day.”
Qi Haoran stroked Little Bear’s head and said, “Your mother often said that the most important thing for reform is stability and perseverance. You already have perseverance, but what you lack is stability. Remember, you can’t do things hastily just to let me come back sooner. It will only serve to benefit outsiders. Should the reforms fail, our departure from the capital today will be in vain. Now, we’re leaving with our tails between our legs. Whether we can return in glory will depend on the two of you.”
Hearing this, the duo’s eyes were filled with fighting spirit.
Only then was Qi Haoran satisfied.
King Rong’s Residence was bustling with activity. When Tiger Head and Little Lion learned that they were leaving today, they immediately shouted, “This is too sudden. We haven’t told Brother Little An yet.”
Stunned, Mu Yangling asked, “Little An is leaving too?”
“Of course. Our homework is the same.” With that, he quickly sent someone to pass a message to Little An.
The boy-girl twins followed suit and sent a message to their little friend, Little Fu.
Mu Yangling instantly had a headache. In the end, she gave up and thought to herself, ’Oh well. It’s not as if Fan Zijin will let his sons follow us.’
