Kang Woojin screamed inwardly in anguish. He almost let out a shriek out loud. If team members like the stylist were in the same car with him, it would’ve been absolute chaos. Fortunately, the team members were in the car behind. At any rate, he barely managed to suppress his instincts and maintain his poker face with difficulty.
‘This is crazy?!’
He turned his gaze out the window. The weather was nice. Woojin briefly escaped reality, then slowly turned his head again to focus on the phone in Choi Sung-gun’s hand. Surely, he must have seen it wrong.
But.
『CNM / Miley Cara seen leaving Kang Woojin’s house, the two are in love / Photos』
The article was still boldly displayed. No, what the fuck is this. As the scream inside him grew louder, Kang Woojin.
“Mm.”
Pretending it was no big deal, he took Choi Sung-gun’s phone. Of course, not violently, but very calmly. Then, without a word, he read past the shocking headline and checked the contents.
“……”
The article wasn’t that long. To summarize, it claimed that Kang Woojin and Miley Cara were in love. There were even photos attached to it. Two, in fact. One was a late-night shot of Miley Cara coming out of Woojin’s LA home, and the second was of Woojin and Cara closely facing each other and talking in front of the house.
The photos were clearly taken in secret by someone.
They were extremely realistic photos without any retouching. Even though Woojin maintained his expression thanks to his practiced persona,
‘What the hell is this!!!’
his inner self fell into complete chaos.
‘In love??! Not even a question mark, but just a flat-out statement??’
Normally, it’d be something like “rumored to be in love”, or “there seems to be romantic tension”, wouldn’t it? Woojin recalled celebrity dating rumors he had often seen in Korea before becoming an actor. But why is his starting out as a confirmed fact? Is it because it’s Hollywood? Just like Woojin thought, Hollywood preferred exclamatory headlines over questioning ones.
Hollywood, like Kang Woojin, was about ‘no-backing-down’.
Sure, this was a first-time experience for him, but Hollywood was full of dating rumors that were confidently published without any verification. While there were rare cases where someone followed a celebrity for days to collect evidence, most were just like Woojin’s article, released based on circumstantial assumptions.
Naturally, there was less mercy than in Korea.
‘Which bastard wrote this article!’
Kang Woojin’s confusion gradually turned into excitement. No matter how you looked at it, it was a major scoop. Wasn’t it? A dating rumor involving Kang Woojin, who had shaken not only Hollywood but the entire world since his debut, and Miley Cara, a world-class top star as an actress and singer. On top of that, Woojin’s current influence was practically sky-high.
Given all this, Woojin’s flustered reaction wasn’t strange.
‘What do I do about this? What kind of persona am I supposed to go with in times like this?’
From his debut until now, whether in Korea or Hollywood, his recognition had been top-tier, but he was also an actor with extremely few scandals. Understandably so. He was in his fourth year since debut, and he had been so busy he barely had time for anything else. And now this dating rumor surfaced, not in Korea but in Hollywood.
Soon.
-Swoosh.
Woojin slowly handed the phone back to Choi Sung-gun. Choi Sung-gun received the phone with a subtle expression, while Kang Woojin recalled the context behind the photos attached to the article.
‘Wait, were there reporters around at that time?? Or was it a paparazzi?!’
For reference, although journalists in Hollywood do work in the field, paparazzi selling photos to media outlets is far more common. In any case, the photos of Woojin and Cara in the dating article were real and taken very recently. The story was like this. Woojin and Cara had a dinner appointment, and since there were a number of things she had helped him with in the past, Woojin invited her to his house.
But they weren’t alone.
On the day the photos were taken, there were four people together: Kang Woojin, Choi Sung-gun, Miley Cara, and her main manager. However, the article made it look like the two had spent a sweet, private time together. The romance angle was just a bonus. In any case, it was clearly a speculative article from the media.
At that moment.
“Woojin.”
Choi Sung-gun, who had been observing Kang Woojin’s expression all along, spoke up.
“The photos in this article. it’s from that day, right? The day we had dinner with Miley Cara.”
Woojin flinched slightly without showing it and nodded calmly, pretending nothing was wrong.
“…Yes, that’s right.”
“Phew, the paparazzi have always followed us around, but I didn’t think they’d even stake out your house – ah, damn! I let my guard down because it was late at night. That’s my fault for not managing things better.”
“No, I wasn’t paying attention either.”
“Look at this bullshit these bastards wrote. They’re playing the drums, janggu, and even doing the mask dance all by themselves.”
Clicking his tongue, Choi Sung-gun briefly examined Kang Woojin’s face. He was trying to grasp Woojin’s feelings. But it was a pointless effort. It was impossible to read the inner thoughts behind that icy expression. As he scratched his chin, Choi Sung-gun muttered inwardly.
‘Hmm- though, considering how they’ve been so far, this article doesn’t seem completely off either. How should I put it, there were times when there was a subtle, ambiguous vibe between them.’
Choi Sung-gun, the CEO of bw Entertainment, had to understand the feelings of Woojin, who was like the heart of the company, in order to respond properly.
“So- Woojin. I’m just asking just in case, but what exactly is the relationship between you and Miley Cara… what’s going on between you two?”
He added that it wasn’t suspicion, but just to be informed. For a moment, Kang Woojin was taken aback. Even without realizing it. The word ‘love’ was outrageous, sure, but the truth was, Woojin had been directly ‘confessed’ to by Cara. Both Woojin and Cara had been insanely busy, so things had been moving slowly, but to describe it, maybe it was a flirtationship or something similar?
One thing was certain: they were no longer just some casual colleagues like before.
Then Choi Sung-gun let out a quiet sigh and changed the topic.
“Hmm- well, let’s put that aside for now. First, let’s deal with this dating article. We need to explain the situation at the time and immediately request a correction.”
“…No.”
But Kang Woojin silently shook his head.
“Let’s just leave the article as is.”
Choi Sung-gun blinked.
“You’re… just going to leave it?”
“Yes.”
“Why though?”
Why? Simply because he didn’t really want to deny it. The article was inaccurate and a misunderstanding, and a correction would clarify that they weren’t in that kind of relationship, but for some reason, Woojin didn’t like that.
“For now, I’ll just leave it without any response.”
“Hey, are you sure about that? Whether it’s Hollywood or Korea, if we leave this alone, it’ll turn into a typhoon. And if we take no action, it’s basically admitting to the article.”
Woojin knew that well. Still, he didn’t want to deny it outright. He couldn’t say it was love, but the mood between them wasn’t bad either.
‘No, if I go and firmly deny it and release a correction, it’s going to seem like, I’m rejecting Cara, right?’
He didn’t like the appearance of rejecting her. Realistically, the right thing to do would be to deny it immediately and contact Cara, but Woojin seemed to be choosing romance over reality. And it also seemed like he had something else in mind.
“I don’t want to feed the media or public opinion. For now, let’s remain silent and take no immediate action.”
“……Alright, got it.”
Choi Sung-gun narrowed his eyes as he replied, and smirked inwardly.
‘There’s definitely something between them. This article might be true.’
At the same time.
Inside Universal Movies complex, in one of its script reading rooms. The room was spacious, and the ㅁ-shaped table set in the middle was impressively large. Dozens of foreigners were gathered in the reading room. Among them stood out a towering Black man.
“Haha.”
Looking at the article on his phone was Joseph Felton, the producer of the movie ‘John Persona’. And this place was where the script reading for ‘John Persona’ was going to be held. So, gathered here were the director of ‘John Persona’, the key staff and production team, officials from Universal Movies, and many Hollywood actors.
Dozens were already seated.
The interesting part was.
“Is this real??”
“Judging by the fact there are even photos, it seems pretty solid.”
“Whoa- Miley came out of Kang Woojin’s house… when did the two of them become like that?”
“But isn’t it too early to make a judgment just from these two photos? It’s not like the media or paparazzi overreacting is anything new.”
“I agree. Don’t you know how media outlets always act like it’s confirmed first?”
“But still, the two of them look way too close in these photos, don’t they? And she left the house this late at night.”
The cast and key staff of ‘John Persona’ were burning with talk about Kang Woojin and Cara. Why? Because of the dating rumor article that had just been published. Although he hadn’t arrived yet, the male lead of ‘John Persona’ was Kang Woojin. Naturally, everyone’s interest exploded.
The commotion grew louder as people debated whether it was true or not.
At that point, the faint smile on Joseph Felton’s face, who had also been reading the article on his phone, deepened.
‘This blew up pretty late.’
He recalled events from long ago. When Miley Cara first went to Korea, appeared only on Kang Woojin’s YouTube channel, later involved him in her new album, then Cannes, ‘Beneficial Evil’, and now ‘Beast and the Beauty’. Those were the major moments, but there were many minor episodes in between too.
Could all of that really just be stories between colleagues or friends? Probably not. In fact, Joseph, a well-known Hollywood producer, had somewhat anticipated something between Woojin and Cara.
‘Whether the article is true or not, there really was a subtle vibe between them. They match well. I should congratulate them.’
Just then, an older man with round glasses perched on his nose approached Joseph where he was seated. It was Danny Landis, the Hollywood big shot director of ‘John Persona’.
“What do you make of this article?”
Joseph Felton chuckled and shrugged.
“Well, not sure, but based on the pictures, they seem to go well together.”
“Is that so? Hmm-”
Director Danny Landis let out a quiet hum and smiled too.
“There are already several issues surrounding Kang Woojin, and this scoop-level dating rumor will just shake things up even more. I’ve never seen an actor constantly make headlines like this.”
After scanning the bustling reading room, he made a request to Joseph.
“Everyone seems pretty worked up. We should probably calm them down a bit.”
Agreeing, the giant Joseph stood and addressed the murmuring crowd.
“I see everyone has come across something quite interesting, but I think we all need to stay calm. And once Mr. Kang Woojin arrives, please refrain from mentioning that matter at all.”
He was telling them not to bring up the dating rumor.
“It would interfere with the script reading of ‘John Persona’.”
Having said his piece, Joseph Felton sat back down.
‘Do you think I’d let some mess like this ruin the mood for Woojin, whom I worked so hard to bring in? No way.’
Fortunately, the atmosphere in the reading room settled down.
About 20 minutes later.
-Swoosh.
Wearing a brown padded jacket, Kang Woojin entered the ‘John Persona’ reading room. His arrival was met with greetings from many people, and Woojin responded to all of them with indifference. But inwardly, Woojin was scanning the expressions of everyone present at the script reading.
‘Hmph- these folks seem like they’re wearing masks? They’ve seen the article, right? Yeah, they 100% saw it. Are they holding back?’
From the actors to the production staff, everyone looked like they were dying to speak.
Amid this peculiar atmosphere, Director Danny Landis spoke up.
“Shall we begin? Let’s start with cast introductions. First, Mr. Kang Woojin.”
“Hello. I’m Kang Woojin, playing the role of ‘John Owen’.”
The script reading for ‘John Persona’ began.
Meanwhile.
In a meeting room of a large agency in LA, a loud voice erupted.
“What!! What is this!!”
Inside the rather spacious room sat five or six foreigners, and in a chair was a blonde woman with her legs casually crossed, it was Miley Cara. She was looking at a tablet, which displayed the dating rumor article. Her main manager continued yelling.
“We need to issue a correction immediately, saying it’s nonsense! Miley! You should contact Kang Woojin!!”
The other foreigners were equally furious. But then, with a faint smile, Cara responded.
“Jonathan, don’t.”
“What?? What do you mean??”
“I’m saying don’t do anything.”
“Be serious!”
“It’s true that I like him.”
“Yes, you like Kang Woojin… Huh? What?”
It was very shocking.
“I’ve already confessed to him.”
A few hours later, in Japan.
While it was afternoon in LA, it was early morning in Japan. In a large concert hall in Tokyo, Japan. This concert hall, equipped with tens of thousands of seats, was scheduled to host a Korean girl group’s concert today.
Therefore, the members of the girl group were all gathered in the biggest waiting room of the concert hall.
They had to do rehearsals from the morning.
What stood out was one of the girl group members, a woman wearing a loose black hoodie.
“……Ah.”
While looking at her phone, she suddenly dropped her iced Americano to the floor. The contents spilled across the ground, and her surrounding team members rushed over in surprise. The woman’s eyes were wide as if about to burst. Alarmed, her teammates shouted out.
“Hwa, Hwalin, what’s wrong?! Are you sick??!”
The woman was Hwalin, who fangirled over Kang Woojin to an extreme degree, and she had completely lost her soul while staring at the dating rumor article on her phone.
“A dream-”
Kang Woojin’s dating rumor article had already spread across Korea and Japan like a nuclear bomb had dropped.
“Yes. This must be a dre-dream.”
But there was no way it was a dream.
