“Uncle, want to grab a bite together?”

“No, no, you go home. I’ll be heading home soon too.”

“Alright, Senior Sister Bai, keep an eye on Uncle for me. I see he’s moving around but isn’t quite as nimble.”

Xu Lin said quietly to Bai Xiaoxiao, who nodded in response.

“Do you have money? You can take Uncle home by taxi. I can see he doesn’t want to leave right now.”

“I have money for the taxi. I’ll stay with him for a bit. He definitely wants to watch the work being finished before he leaves.”

“After all, your dad says he needs to pay more attention to the family business.”

Xu Lin’s comment made Bai Xiaoxiao feel suddenly embarrassed, lowering her head for a moment before raising it again and saying,

“Yes, the family business.”

Seeing Bai Xiaoxiao becoming more courageous and confident, Xu Lin smiled.

Back at the car, Qin Yunhe and Su Qingwan were nowhere to be seen, with only Liu Qinnuan and Ji Yun present.

“Xu Lin, I forgot to buy the necklace for Senior Sister Bai. The stores are closed by now.”

Ji Yun looked at Bai Xiaoxiao chatting with her father from a distance, feeling quite uncomfortable.

Originally, she had planned to take her out to buy a few things and then head back to study.

“It’s fine. She should be out and about more. We can buy the necklace anytime. There’s plenty of time after school at noon.”

Xu Lin then glanced at Liu Qinnuan, who seemed to be looking around, searching for something.

“What are you looking for?”

“Just looking for more pretty young ladies.”

“You need an assistant, someone who is diligent, capable, and obedient. Looks are secondary.”

“Brother Xu, I have a question. Why are most bosses’ secretaries pretty young ladies?”

“Um…this…” Xu Lin had never been a boss, so how would he know.

But it’s probably not just personal preference; it’s likely to enhance the company’s image when receiving clients.

“I’m not choosing a handsome guy; picking a young lady isn’t unusual.”

“But what if she looks good but doesn’t perform well in her job?”

Xu Lin thought that, like with assistants, work ability is crucial. They can’t just be decorative.

“Then train them. If it doesn’t work out, you can always replace them.”

“Hey, where did the two besties go?”

“They went to get some medicine for you.”

“I’m not sick. What medicine?”

“It’s for the spider bite on your back,” Ji Yun pointed at his back.

Xu Lin then remembered that a few days ago, while cleaning his room, a spider fell onto him and into his clothes. He couldn’t find it, but the next day, a small bump appeared. He applied some medicinal alcohol, which relieved the itch, but it hadn’t gone away completely.

He didn’t realize they had even noticed this, and the bump was only as big as a thumbnail. They even knew it was from a spider bite.

“How did you know it was a spider bite?”

“Sister Qin said she had the same experience. She noticed it and told us. Make sure to thank Sister Qin.”

“Of course.”

A few minutes later, Qin Yunhe and Su Qingwan returned with the medicine. Xu Lin was about to apply it when Su Qingwan stopped him.

“Hold on, let my friend do it,” Su Qingwan said, holding onto Qin Yunhe’s arm, making everyone laugh.

“Stop fooling around. Get in the car. After I drop you off, I need to go to my dad’s for dinner. No one wants to mooch off me, right?”

Qin Yunhe’s remark made Xu Lin understand that the visit to meet the future father-in-law was postponed for today.

“Here’s your medicine. It works for spider bites and other insect stings. It will be completely gone in two hours.”

“Thanks, Sister Qin. I’ll bring you snow princess cakes next time.”

“Sure.”

Qin Yunhe smiled and then took the driver’s seat, while Su Qingwan, looking at her friend, wondered if there was a deeper meaning behind her words.

They got into the car, and Qin Yunhe looked at everyone and said, “Xu Lin, you three should go to the Jinxiu Mansion. I’ll drop you off first, then I’ll take Wanwan.”

“Teacher Su, do you have anything urgent?”

“I have no urgent matters. Please go ahead and drop everyone off.”

A few minutes later, Xu Lin and the others arrived outside the east gate of the community.

“I won’t get out of the car.”

“Alright.”

“Bye, drive safely tonight.”

“Don’t worry, I always follow traffic rules. See you.”

“Bye.”

Everyone waved, and Qin Yunhe drove away. Liu Qinnuan then tugged at his sleeve.

“Xu Lin, Sister Ji Yun and I will head back first. I’ll grab some things and then come visit.”

“I was just joking. You don’t need to bring any gifts. My mom might really like you; she’s seen your TV dramas.”

“No, no, it’s not a big deal. I’ve already bought something. It’s not very expensive.”

“Alright then. Is Class Monitor Ji coming? I’ll cook a bit more.”

“I won’t go today. Tonight, Sister Chu said she’d come over to my place for dinner. I need to be there. I’ll drop Sister Liu off later.”

“Okay.”

“Then we’ll leave first.”

“I’ll drive you back. The neighborhood isn’t completely safe.”

“Sure.” Ji Yun was going to refuse but remembered the recent news about a few robbery incidents, so safety was a concern.

After dropping the two girls off at their homes, Xu Lin walked heavily to the ground floor. He was quite tired after the day’s events.

“Good evening, Mr. Xu.”

“Oh? Hello, Miss Qin.”

Xu Lin heard someone call him and turned to see Qin Tiantian pushing a bicycle towards him.

“Just coming from Uncle Qin’s place?”

“Yes, he doesn’t want me to visit too often, but once he feels better…”

“Actually, Uncle Qin is just saying that. He doesn’t have many friends or hobbies. He’s quite happy to see you, though he worries about the expenses.”

“He saved my life. It’s only right.”

“Yes, I’m heading up now.”

Xu Lin nodded and started towards the building entrance when Qin Tiantian suddenly called out to him.

“What’s wrong?”

“Tell that boy to stop coming after me.”

“Which boy?” Xu Lin was confused, and Qin Tiantian seemed to realize her mistake.

“You don’t know? It’s your classmate Li Bin. He often waits for me in the morning here, but you should understand… it’s not possible for me. Not to mention age, given my current situation, who would I be suitable for? Just living well is my biggest hope.”

“There’s no need to say that. In the end, you’re also a victim. I’ll talk to Li Bin, but he might not listen to me.”

“Then I’ll have to refuse him firmly.”

“That might work, but he’s quite stubborn, so don’t be too…”

“I know my limits. It’s normal for a young person to be interested in women.”

“You’re only three years apart.”

“But my experiences have made me an adult, though not a very good one. I’ll be going now.”

“Alright, drive safely, Miss Qin.”

She waved and rode off into the distance. Xu Lin took out his phone and dialed Li Bin.

“Li Bin, what’s going on?”

“Sorry, I had some pork knuckles today and didn’t call you over.”

“Were they good?”

“Yeah, they were good.”

“That’s not what I meant. Why didn’t you come find me in the morning? You went after Miss Qin?”

“How did you know… I just…”

“I told you, you’re not handling it well.”

“But…”

“She sees you as a kid, and do you really think such a beautiful woman needs a man?”

Xu Lin felt that Li Bin needed to mature before he would understand.

“But…”

“No buts. We’ll talk more tomorrow. Don’t go bothering her again!”

“Oh, I understand now. You want me to learn when to relax and work hard.”

“Get lost!”
