Chapter 556 Duke’s Affairs
Grrr!Creatures resembling lions prowled across the land, flashing to and fro the trees, often using the vines to swing around like monkeys. They had flexible limbs, allowing them to perform a variety of actions.
And the most pronounced of them all was their hands, one that constantly morphed in shape according to their needs, resembling monkeys while they shuttled through the trees, turning into the paws of a feline while they ran on the ground, etc.
"Magic Beasts…" The coachman muttered, feeling troubled as he looked at the figures flashing past, "Triple-Foot Chimeras."
"They aren't a threat." The Cartographer said, using his detection magic as he muttered, "There's around a couple dozen of them around us. But there's too wide of a strength difference between us. So, they won't attack us."
Suddenly, a sharp whistle resounded throughout the caravan as the eyes of the coachman lit up in surprise. He then made eye contact with the Cartographer before pulling the reins, causing their carriage to come to a halt.
The rest of the carriages forming the caravan too halted in response as the Triple-Foot Chimeras stared, lying in wait.
Swoosh!
Suddenly, wind blades shot around, cutting through the trees, surprising them as they sprang out of their hiding spots, alarmed when countless Warriors ganged up on them, rapidly killing them all.
Magic Beasts typically had one ability that they honed for their entire lives. The Triple-Foot Chimeras honed their ability to morph their bodies, becoming versatile in all environments.
But, they were a weak race, in the end, enemies even Experts could take down, albeit with some effort.
In this world, every race had its exclusive profession, wielding powers related to that.
Magic Beasts contained a Magic Organ in them that fuelled their abilities through the usage of mana. But they weren't strong, lacking intelligence and mostly having to rely on sheer numbers to get the task done.
After that were the sentient races, existing in the dozens, scattered all across the vast world.
Among them, the human race occupied a couple of continents and was also scattered in other locations throughout the world.
Their main profession was split into two: Mage and Warrior.
Mages were those that chucked spells from afar, dealing elemental damage. Only the human race had Mages, and they typically wielded one of the six elements of Fire, Water, Wind, Metal, Lightning, and Space.
The most common were water, and wind, followed by fire and metal. The rarest among them were Lightning and followed by Space, one that was rarely seen.
Dolare was a Wind Mage. Each Mage only wielded one element.
The second profession consisted of Warriors, those that imbued mana into their bodies to empower themselves, exploding with physical might. They also awaken to one of the six elements, able to use the respective element in their attacks.
Warriors were more common than Mages. There was only one Mage for every hundred Warriors.
These two were classified as the Main Professions of the human race. Typically, each of the two professions only wielded one element. But, exceptions arose from time to time.
It consisted of a Mage wielding two elements, or a Warrior wielding two elements. They were rare exceptions, raised as elites of the human race, fought for by all organisations of power.
And then there was the balanced exception, a person that trod on both paths. They could strengthen their bodies as a Warrior and also unleash ranged attacks as a Mage.
Depending on the elements of their respective profession, their power skyrocketed. And, Horan stood at the peak of this, wielding the Lightning Element both as a Warrior and Mage.
He had the highest advantage even among those that wielded two professions.
Of course, the Human Race also had Sub-Professions. They were rarer than Mages and only appeared alone. Meaning, those with a Sub-Profession can only have that, nothing else.
There were three: Porter, Cartographer, and Alchemist.
Porters were equipped with dimensional magic that allowed them to carry large volumes of goods with them, similar to a spatial ring. And the stronger the Porter, the greater their storage capacity.
Though, due to the trickiness of their abilities, Porters were super rare. And generally, when coming across one, they were dealt by the humans themselves, fearing their wealth would be sneakily stolen by the Porter.
Cartographer was a respected profession as they had abilities to scout the terrain and map it, allowing the human race to have one of the most detailed maps in the world. And through these maps, they managed to carve out a path for themselves in this world that was dominated by terrifying races.
Finally, there came the Alchemist, one of the rarest professions due to the sheer fact that there was only a handful of them.
An Alchemist refined potions that treated their injuries, cured any status ailments, etc. And, Alchemists also refined Magic Items that amplified one's power.
An organisation with an Alchemist would become damn wealthy. As only the Human Race had Alchemists, things…weren't exactly harmonious between them and the other races.
Horan Fawnker was currently travelling through dangerous terrain one after another in search of a certain treasure, one that would make him the strongest.
Of course, he couldn't openly do that, for the risks of others learning of the secret were damn high. So, his open claims were trading. He wished to trade in a nearby kingdom, one whose eldest princess was engaged to him.
He was from the Electra Empire, a major Human power, originating from the Duke Household. The Fawnker Duke Household had two sons, with him being the second son.
As a Pseudo-Saint, he wielded considerable power, having a greater chance of becoming the next Duke.
But of course, his elder brother didn't wish to see that happen, and hence hitched a plot. And somehow, he managed to gain most of the assets under the Duke household, gathering greater support from their vassals.
In order to gain an advantage over his elder brother, Horan had set out to the neighbouring kingdom to establish a trade relationship and also gain control over the mysterious Magic Tool that the Kingdom was said to have been protecting for centuries.
