50 I’m Very Vindictive

Jiang Yao’s words struck Xing Shu like lightning. She felt a rush of blood to the head.

Jiang Yao tapped the steering wheel lightly with her fingertips. The smile on her face was still innocent.

Xing Shu straightened her back slowly. She finally knew why Jiang Yao asked her out. Perhaps the makeup remover had piqued Jiang Yao’s interest in her. It was not that she was not perceptive and failed to read Xing Shu’s face; Jiang Yao was interested in Xing Shu and so she feigned ignorance. Jiang Yao’s interest was like a terrible child who suddenly found a fun toy and had to take it apart before being satisfied.

Jiang Yao might not be scheming, but she was indeed scary.

Xing Shu panicked for a moment before calming down. Jiang Yao seemed to have said it in passing and did not probe further. Instead, she looked at Xing Shu with pity. “You’re actually quite pitiful. You don’t want to be a burden to anyone. You work hard on your own but also yearn for someone to love you. However, I think you’ve accepted the fact that you’re not loved. Otherwise, no good person would dare to bed Young Uncle.”

Jiang Yao’s every word was filled with naive cruelty. “To be honest, I pity you. You can spend one night getting a man like my uncle, but you have to spend the rest of your life forgetting him. There will definitely be no outcome between you and him. He can give you anything, but he won’t give you love or sincerity.”

Xing Shu took a deep breath, and her eyes darkened. “Ms. Jiang Yao, I think you might have misunderstood terribly. Cheng Lang and I are just getting what we each want. It has nothing to do with love.” She needed someone who could protect her and help her exact revenge on Cheng Xingyang; Cheng Lang fit the bill. In return, she offered Cheng Lang a nubile body.

Jiang Yao said, “There’s no misunderstanding. I don’t care if you’re simply banging Young Uncle or if you have feelings for him. I’m just reminding you out of kindness. Young Uncle has been in a position of power for a long time. He is a deep thinker; a riddle wrapped in a mystery in an enigma. He’s not someone you can trifle with, not in your life. I’m saying this because I admire you. If it were anyone else, I wouldn’t have bothered at all.”

Xing Shu felt a lump in her throat. She felt that Jiang Yao’s personality was not going to win her any friends in the Beijing upper-class social circle—such a forthright personality was too glaring. It was like a beam of light shining into a smelly ditch, accidentally revealing the decay and filth. Everyone wanted this beam of light to disappear.

Xing Shu said, “I won’t like Cheng Lang, let alone fall in love with him. But, thank you for your reminder.”

“Really?” Jiang Yao asked innocently.

Xing Shu said, “I’m very vindictive. I won’t care for anyone who doesn’t want me. I’m involved with Cheng Lang because I want to exact revenge on Cheng Xingyang. Who else can make Cheng Xingyang stomp his feet more in this entire city?” The orange light of the setting sun outside the window shone shone on Xing Shu’s face, revealing a deep and mysterious look. “There are so many evil people in this world. There are also many people who have committed sins. Why do I have to be a saint? You expect me to turn the other cheek and forgive people who have betrayed me? I can’t do it; I’ll take revenge! However, thank you for your reminder, Ms. Jiang Yao. I admit that you’re right. I’m indeed very lonely and want to be loved, but isn’t that normal? All humans yearn for love and a safe harbor. Aren’t you the same, Ms. Jiang Yao?”

Jiang Yao was only in her twenties, but she already had a sullied reputation. It was as if she was openly telling the world that she was such a person—I’m a slut. If you’re afraid, don’t come near me. I don’t need your love. Only by doing so would one not get hurt; by not holding out for hope.

“You…” Jiang Yao choked suddenly. She did not know how Xing Shu suddenly flipped the table on her when she was the one who had the upper hand just a while ago.

Xing Shu looked straight at Jiang Yao. “Ms. Jiang Yao, you’ve fooled around with so many men because you want a man who will love you at all costs, right? You want that man to love you even though he knows that you’re promiscuous and amorous. You’re like a person who has fallen into quicksand; you know that you can’t escape, but you still yearn to be saved. You said that Cheng Lang won’t love anyone, but you’re the same, Ms. Jiang Yao. You long to be loved, but you won’t fall in love with anyone. Or rather, people with the Cheng family’s blood in their veins are selfish and cold.”
