Her pale face bore a melancholic expression while she held the umbrella for Bai Liu with hazy eyes. The clicking sound of her joints turned into a faint female voice, “You are not him.”
The next moment, the woman turned her head to look at the other side of the bridge, then returned her gaze to Bai Liu. Her expression was chilling, “I’ve waited for so many people, but none of them were him.”
The bridgehead was right in front of them.
The woman’s feet paused and she looked towards the bridge with red eyes. Her body was soaked with muddy river water, dripping down her clothes. The umbrella turned inward and pulled Bai Liu towards the bridge as if she was ready to jump off the bridge with him at any time.
Mu Sicheng finally couldn’t bear it anymore, so he tried to pull Bai Liu out.
Bai Liu took the initiative to get out of the umbrella and coldly ordered, “Jump!”
Mu Sicheng was stunned for a moment, but soon realized that Bai Liu wanted him to jump into the river. He looked at the river’s surface in horror and disbelief.
Many corpses were floating on the river with their faces facing down and dressed in white with their hair disheveled. It seemed that these corpses had heard Bai Liu’s words and slowly turned over, revealing a swollen and rotten face, smiling at them with their mouths wide open.
Fuck, there are so many dead bodies under the bridge, wouldn’t it be suicide to jump down?!
Before Mu Sicheng had time to prepare himself mentally, Bai Liu grabbed his hand and jumped down without hesitation.Mu Sicheng and the ghost who died on the bridge were both stunned for a few seconds. They probably didn’t expect Bai Liu to be so self-aware that he would jump into the river before she dragged him down.
Bai Liu and Mu Sicheng fell into the dark, fishy water, which poured into Mu Sicheng’s mouth and nose. As a conditioned reflex, he choked and coughed a few times. Behind him came the heartbreaking cry of a woman, “… Give it back to me!”
Mu Sicheng was so panicked by the roar that he took the time to look back. He was shocked to find that Bai Liu had snatched the umbrella of the sacrificial bridge ghost before jumping off the bridge!
The woman had no umbrella in her hand. She was wearing white clothes, her eyes dripping with blood and tears. She looked at Bai Liu and Mu Sicheng who jumped into the river with extreme resentment, then turned around and jumped towards the bridge pier without hesitation.
Flesh and blood flew everywhere, bones shattered, and the woman hit the bridge pier violently then her face returned to its bloody incomplete appearance . She opened her huge black mouth filled with mud and sand before chasing after Bai Liu in the water with an extremely ferocious look.
At this moment, it was not only her, but all of the floating corpses in the water were like sharks that smelled blood. Their swollen and eroded bodies were swimming strangely as they rushed towards Bai Liu from underwater!
“Fuck!” Mu Sicheng turned his head and swam forward holding Bai Liu’s wrist, “Run!”
“Don’t run. You can’t get away.” Bai Liu threaded through the water, his head floating on the surface, looking at the two banks of the river with a pale face, “There are things guarding the shore. We can’t get up even if we run.”
Mu Sicheng looked towards the shore.
The Paper Taoist rang the golden bell, driving the zombies and the sacrificial bridge ghosts who held umbrellas for them off the bridge. Then the zombies jumped and landed on the other side of the river.
The Paper Taoist put a talisman on the foreheads of the zombies that were standing still, before walking away shaking its head while ringing a bell.
As the Paper Taoist walked, it came to the entrance of the main tomb chamber opposite the bridge. It was as if a spark from a distance fell on its body and it suddenly caught fire.
A raging fire burned on its body, and in a few breaths, this lifelike paper man turned into smoke and disappeared.
At this moment, under the faint light of the Paper Taoist’s burning fire, Mu Sicheng saw many burly and motionless zombie corpses hidden in the darkness on the other side of the bridge.
These zombies all looked like middle-aged men, with a yellow talisman of suppression stuck on their heads. They stood unmoving at the riverside at a certain distance with sacrificial bridge ghosts standing next to them, holding umbrellas to shield their faces.
They seemed to have been specially arranged like this to guard the tomb. There were some bones and backpacks under their feet, as well as some corpses with as well as some corpses with their eyes open, still bearing grievances from life, and not yet completely decayed.
These corpses had their mouths wide open in fear, their faces were black, and there were two huge bloody holes on their necks.
Judging from their clothes, these corpses should be passers-by of Yinshan Village, somehow entering the tomb by mistake. Upon encountering the sacrificial bridge ghosts, they jumped into the river in fear and tried to escape. As a result, they tried to escape death by reaching the shore, but before they could even breathe a sigh of relief, they were bitten to death by the zombies guarding the shore.
Under the bright orange-yellow flames of the Paper Taoist burning, the zombies did not move but looked ferocious. Their three white eyes rolled as they stared at the Bai Liu floating on the river; their expression revealing dried yellow bloodstains on their fangs.
We can’t get to this shore anymore!
What about turning back? Go up from the bridge first and avoid this disaster!
Mu Sicheng dragged Bai Liu and swam frantically while turning to look at the other side of the bridge. He widened his eyes in shock, “Why is the way that we came from gone?!”
On the other side of the bridge was an illusionary darkness. They could not see any real scene or the path they came. They could only see specks of blue-green ghost fires hovering around. In the distance, they left the darkness, floating towards the bridge and turning into paper figures of ghosts.
Bai Liu choked twice when he fell into the water, making his face more pallid, “There is no turning back in the underworld, don’t even think about going back,” he retorted, “We can’t go ashore, and we can’t turn back, so where should we go now?”
After speaking, he looked back at the floating corpses that were chasing him and cursed angrily, “These ghost things swim pretty fast.”
Bai Liu breathed in Yin energy and choked on the Yin water. As a living person, his Yang energy was greatly reduced and he felt much weaker. After entering the water, he was completely supported by Mu Sicheng as he swam downstream while holding his shoulders.
Fortunately, Mu Sicheng was in good physical condition and Bai Liu was not heavy, so Mu Sicheng was still able to swim very fast while dragging him for a long distance. But even so, the floating corpses behind them were getting closer and closer.
Bai Liu adjusted his breathing, raised his wet eyelashes and looked at the bridge, “Let’s swim around and go back under the bridge.”
Mu Sicheng was stunned, “HA??!”
Bai Liu looked at Mu Sicheng and said, “With your speed, you should be able to lead these floating corpses around and swim back to the bridge.”
Mu Sicheng asked from the bottom of his heart, “No, we just risked our lives to jump off the bridge, why do we have to go back under the bridge?!”
There are so many ghosts on the bridge. If Bai Liu goes back now, he’d be courting death!
Bai Liu’s choice was so bizarre that Mu Sicheng was utterly stunned. But before he could say anything, the floating corpse behind him suddenly caught up.
Mu Sicheng felt his feet step on the slippery back of a body covered with cloth.
Several pale faces of drowned people vaguely emerged under the swaying water around them. Then, Bai Liu, who was held up by Mu Sicheng, suddenly sank, as if something grabbed his ankle and dragged him down.
“Fuck!” Mu Sicheng cursed angrily and leaned back, exerting force with his arms then kicked and pulled at the thing pulling at Bai Liu’s calves before pulling Bai Liu out of the water.
Bai Liu returned to the surface of the water. His complexion was even paler than before, his eyes were closed, and his wet hair stuck to his forehead with water droplets sliding down.
“Bai Liu!” Mu Sicheng swam while roaring and shaking Bai Liu wildly. He even slapped Bai Liu in the face, but Bai Liu still didn’t wake up.
Mu Sicheng’s palm was scratched by something. He paused, then slowly looked at Bai Liu’s sickly lips.
Two blue fangs were exposed at the corners of Bai Liu’s lips as if they had not been properly kept. It was this thing that had scratched Mu Sicheng’s palm just now.
[A living person without vitality is a walking corpse. If you absorb too much vitality, I will probably become a walking corpse or a zombie.]
“Fuck you!!!” Mu Sicheng completely collapsed. “Bai Liu, didn’t you say you knew your limits and wouldn’t let me suck your yang energy to this extent? Didn’t you fucking say you were still a young and strong man and could have your yang energy sucked away for more than an hour?!”
“It’s only been a short time! You are so incompetent!”
Now he didn’t know when Bai Liu would wake up, and he didn’t know what to do. He could only try to do what Bai Liu told him before he fell unconscious!
Mu Sicheng gritted his teeth and pushed Bai Liu’s legs quickly, starting to circle around with the floating corpses behind him. The corpses floated up and down in the water, and from time to time a pair of eyes appeared on the water’s surface, staring at Bai Liu with a greedy, ghostly gaze, like a crocodile on the hunt.
In the later stage of the dragging, Mu Sicheng’s hands began to feel sore and weak. He looked up at the bridge in front of him with his teeth gritted and pushed forward with all his might, pushing Bai Liu under the bridge.
The floating corpses behind him were left trailing at a distance and would not catch up with him for the time being, but Mu Sicheng did not dare to relax at all, because these things would catch up with him sooner or later!
The question is, what the hell is he supposed to do now?! Bai Liu didn’t tell him what to do after he got under the bridge!
Mu Sicheng hung Bai Liu’s collar on a bridge hook, so that Bai Liu was suspended out of the water and could breathe smoothly. Then he turned around and guarded Bai Liu wholeheartedly.
He was extremely panicked, but still tried to remain calm, turning around and standing in front of Bai Liu. He took a deep breath and looked at the floating corpses in white that were getting closer and closer.
Bai Liu was a very methodical person. Bai Liu knew that he was going to turn into a zombie, so he would definitely give him some hints on how to wake up or deal with the zombies before that!
Mu Sicheng’s mind was working so quickly that he felt he had never thought so fast in his life.
Bai Liu said that zombies drink blood and worship the moon to survive, meaning human blood can stimulate zombies!
But there are dead bodies everywhere, including Mu Sicheng himself. Where can we get human blood?!
Mu Sicheng was thinking so hard that he was dizzy, but still couldn’t figure out how to wake Bai Liu up. Unfortunately, the floating corpses had already swam over. Mu Sicheng collected his thoughts and looked over with a brutal look.
He himself is now a ghost, and has a natural advantage over dead creatures with strong yin energy like floating corpses, which is that he is not afraid of death.
He kicked away the floating corpses in white one by one, and kicked away a pair of them one by one. Mu Sicheng was so angry that he broke the necks of several floating corpses that approached him with red eyes, throwing their heads onto the shore.
Go ashore and look for it yourself, damn ghost thing!
This group of floating corpses will not die after their heads are twisted off, but losing their heads will make them lose their direction. Hence, they would go look for their heads, prolonging the time it takes them to return and fight Mu Sicheng.
Mu Sicheng was out of breath as he fought, but as the fight continued, he gradually discovered that his hands and feet began to rotate and deform. His facial features also gradually disappeared.
He had begun turning into a ghost after being affected by the yin energy emitting from the corpses.
