Guide to raise my cutie husbands

Chapter 1874 - 1874: The End of the Long War (2)

Xien Zhenya looked at the army of undead marching back and her expression turned solemn. Though she had expected that Xien Xieren wouldn’t sit still, she thought that her sister would have learnt her lesson after what happened to their nation.

She killed and trapped the soul of their mother and it led to the entire nation being shrouded in one disaster after another. Even now the drought was going on. It had been two years since that day and yet after the winters, there was no spring and autumn. Only two weather patterns persisted in their nation, making the survival of the commoners impossible.

However, Xien Zhenya should have thought things through. How could someone like Xien Xieren learn her lesson? A woman like her would stop at nothing to get what she wanted.

“Soldiers!” Xien Zhenya turned to look at the army behind her. Her face was firm with determination brimming in them. “The enemy has attacked our base. I know that attacking at night is considered treacherous and sneaky but our conscience is clear for we didn’t make the move first.”

“So, raise your weapons and attack the city. Make sure not to kill those who have done nothing wrong.”

“And arrest those who surrender! We will not spill blood unnecessarily.”

The sound of a battle cry echoed in the base before the soldiers charged at the stable and picked up their horses.

And in a matter of seconds, a large army was seen rushing towards the Imperial city.

“Ring the gong!” The soldiers who were guarding the doors looked at the two armies that were rushing towards the city and cried out. “The city is under attack!”

Though they knew that this day would come, however, now that it was here, they couldn’t help but be terrified at the sight in front of them.

The sounds of the gongs echoed in the city and the commoners who were hiding in their houses were terrified. The older ones hugged the younger ones and worriedly looked at the city wall through the windows before closing them.

They prayed that nothing would happen to their family and this night would pass without any trouble. But they knew that this prayer of theirs was doomed to fail because tonight, blood was definitely going to cover this land.

“Charge!” General Yuan shouted as she raised the flaming spear in her hand and then aimed it at the large wooden door. Behind her, Yu Dong took the opportunity to throw a mini bomb at the doors.

As soon as the bomb touched the surface of the two gigantic gates—

BOOM!

The sound of an explosion echoed in the surroundings, leaving everyone stumped. Since when did General Yuan get this powerful?

Even General Yuan was shocked; since when did she gain so much power?

Seeing the shocked look on the face of the soldiers and General Yuan, Yu Dong felt a bit guilty. She hoped that General Yuan wouldn’t take such a thing to heart and try this again because if she did, then she was bound to fail!

The soldiers who were guarding the city wall were stunned when they saw the rebel army breaking open such thick wooden gates with one single spear.

They immediately raised white flags as they knew that the chances of winning were close to zero. Thus, it was better to become slaves or be exiled than die! At least if they were exiled, they would keep their lives.

The sound of fighting and people getting arrested echoed in the Imperial City and Xien Xieren, who saw the city burning, felt terrified. She couldn’t help but shout, “Where is Master Ruan? Where did that woman go? She promised me that she will stop this from happening? WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU ARE GOING?”

She shouted at the servants who were running away but no one bothered to answer her. The city was under attack and the result of the war was clearer than ever; how dare they stay in this place any longer? It was better to run!

Xien Xieren watched them run and her heart turned cold. A few days ago these servants were actually praising her and telling her how good of a ruler she was and now that something had happened, they actually ran away from her?

What about her husbands then?

Xien Xieren immediately rushed to her harem but as soon as she barged inside the building, she sensed that something was wrong; the entire courtyard was eerily quiet and only a few bed servants were kneeling on the floor.

“What’s going on? Where are the consorts?” even though she already knew the answer, she still questioned the bed servants, who lowered their heads until their forehead knocked on the floor and one of them replied,

“The consorts—they ran away. They said that they don’t want to be buried alive with you, your majesty.”

Unlike them, who had no family or support, the consorts all had families who could back them up. So they could only wait for death while the consorts ran back to their family for the sake of survival.

Xien Xieren staggered back when she heard the response of the bed servants. She looked at them and then raised her head to look at the cold harem before turning around on her feet and rushing to her bedchamber, where she opened the secret passage.

She was sensible and wise enough to understand that she was not going to win this war. So it was better to escape rather than die here. As long as she was alive, she would make Xien Zhenya’s life a living hell.

With that thought, Xien Xieren ran out of the secret passage.

The more she ran, the bolder she became, thinking that she would be able to escape from this place.

But as soon as she stepped out of the secret passage, she felt something pierce the side of her neck and what followed her was extreme and excruciating pain.

“AHHH!” she screamed as she rolled down on the ground while clutching her neck. She looked up and saw a woman staring down at her with a look of contempt in her eyes.

“What’s the matter with you, your majesty?” She sneered. “Didn’t you work so hard to climb up this throne that you love so much? Why are you running away? Shouldn’t you be standing back and fighting?”

“You—who are you?” Xien Xieren couldn’t help but shudder in fright.

This woman—why did she have such a strong aura?

Yu Dong smiled and leaned down, “You didn’t recognise me, your majesty? I am the woman you have been itching to meet, Yu Dong.”
