He shook his head and said, “There are just too many unknowns.”
The lady also provided some options. “It could also be that there is no telepath helping the Golden Hammer gang at all and the whole gang is innocent.”
Sir Kriss nodded and said, “That could be true too. But I don’t care. All I want to know is how strong the Golden Hammer gang truly is, if they have an agenda against my Edwin family or not, and how much I am going to get if I take them down.”
She shrugged and said, “By the looks of things, the only thing you will earn is eight rank 4 divine flesh, and honestly, it isn’t worth it.”
Sir Kriss sighed when he heard that.
He had to agree that even with his covert investigation, the Golden Hammer gang didn’t look worth his time to attack. This meant that his efforts into investigating them might have been in vain.
He doesn’t like that. But his dislike doesn’t change the fact.
Since he doesn’t like doing unnecessary things, he decided to give up his investigation for now.
He said to the lady, “We will lie low for now and wait for more information.”
She suggested, “Maybe we should support your angry wife and help her get her way with the Golden Hammer gang.”
He shook his head immediately. “No. I will never work with a judge. They don’t fear death because they don’t think anyone will kill them, so they can do anything and be unscrupulous. I don’t want such a loose cannon around me.”
She asked, “If the judge isn’t afraid of death, why is he running now?”
He replied, “He is running because he has offended a lot of people who are willing to kill him even if they have to risk death themselves.”
“He finally has a reason to be afraid of death, but I doubt that’s going to make him reasonable. In fact, I think that now that he has nothing left to do, he can go off the rails without any concern.”
What he said made her laugh. She laughed so hard that her eyes teared up.
After laughing, she said, “You always see the worst in people and the worst possible outcomes.”
He snorted and said, “I’ll take that as a compliment. That compliment is that I consider everything that no one else does.”
She rolled her eyes at him. “Believe whatever you want to believe.”
He sighed and said, “I wish I were exaggerating in this situation. At least Jack can be reasonable even though he is dissatisfied with me because he knows that his situation can be worse. A judge, on the other hand, will turn against me at the drop of a hat.”
“Besides, who is to say that the judge will stop after investigating the Golden Hammer gang? He could still turn against everyone else.”
He shook his head and said, “Judges are too dangerous to work with. At the end of the day, I will have to kill the judge to put an end to the trouble that my wife created. I shouldn’t make matters worse by entangling with the judge.”
“But you’re right. I should find another way to pressure the Golden Hammer gang. That way they must show me what they are truly capable of.”
The two of them ended their conversation at that point. The lady stood up from her seat and bowed to him.
She said, “I should be leaving now. I wish you good luck.”
He nodded and said without looking up, “Thank you. Thank you for your time too. I appreciate it.”
She chuckled and asked him, “What do you appreciate? That your sister came to spend time with you or that you got to get free work from your sister?”
She was implying that he only cared about using her for free labor. But he didn’t care.
He replied, “I appreciate both.”
She shook her head and said no more.
Her hand grabbed the briefcase. Then she picked it up and left the room with it.
The crystal crown in the briefcase is the high-grade divine artifact of the pathway of the telepath that the investigators of Celine’s death wanted to use on the minds of the two main suspects and the leaders of the Golden Hammer gang.
The raw material for the divine artifact was acquired when a rank 9 telepath tried to break out of the pathway to become a godling. This happened a long time ago.
It is clear now that the rank 9 telepath failed. If the telepath hadn’t failed, their body part wouldn’t be used to make divine artifacts.
