GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?

Chapter 2189 - 2189: Inner Voice.

They will certainly create a lot of trouble if they use the borrowed power to expose their relationship to the pathway of slavery.

This might be unavoidable even if the pathway of the slave is under the control of the master. In the short time that their slaves are given permission to borrow the power of the pathway of the slave, they might do something troublesome with it.

Legion also didn’t want to share the abilities of the pathway of the telepath with them. Even though slaves can’t use their borrowed abilities on their master, they can still use their borrowed abilities on themselves and might find a way to escape or cause trouble.

As for the pathway of undying, they don’t want anyone to know that they are on that pathway, including their slaves. They want to keep it a secret that they are undying godclads, as that is related to their plan to become Absolutes.

So they lend their slaves the abilities of the pathway of killing. After all, the best way to keep something a secret is to keep it to themselves. This is especially necessary in a world with pathways like fate weavers who can sniff out secret information.

With their decision made, they gave their slaves the Sever, Death Mark, and Stun divine abilities. The power of the borrowed divine abilities is dependent on the spiritual power of the slave using it, but the mastery of the borrowed divine ability is dependent on the mastery of that divine ability by the master.

After explaining the three new divine abilities and promising to give their slaves more power if they perform well, they sent out Black Knife to assassinate Silver Mirror.

The success of this mission will determine if they get to use Life Bond on Silver Mirror. This mission will also determine if they get to use Silver Mirror’s portal network to reach the nearest city.

So this mission is very important. Even Black Knife, who was ignorant of the true purpose of his mission, felt a lot of pressure. He was afraid that he would fail and be punished.

They had to use Hypnotize to calm him down. They said to him, “Don’t worry. Don’t be afraid. Just do what you’re told. There is no need to worry. Your job is not to think. Your job is to do what you’re told as best as you can. Your master will understand if you do your best.”

Black Knife stopped hyperventilating after he persuaded himself that there was nothing to worry about.

He became determined not to think too much about whatever his master asked him to do. The pep talk he gave himself made him make up his mind to just do whatever he is told and to do his best.

Legion saw all of these and urged him to go and kill Silver Mirror. They knew where Silver Mirror was, so he didn’t have to waste time looking for his target.

They watched him go every step of the way with a slight worry. It is only a slight worry because they were prepared for this mission to fail.

It is true that they need Silver Mirror. But if this mission doesn’t work, they will just have Silver Mirror killed.

So Black Knife’s true purpose on this mission is not to kill Silver Mirror. They can manage that on their own.

Silver Mirror usually stays far away from Ivory Town. He only comes back occasionally to attend to delicate matters of his underground black market.

This period happens to have a lot of delicate matters that he needs to deal with. It is all due to the riot in the town and the Ivory family’s crackdown on every force in the town that is not in their control.

The first forces that cracked down were the other noble families in the town. These noble families have a noble that is at most at rank 3. They won’t reach rank 4 in Ivory Town as long as the Ivory family is still there.

This situation doesn’t fill the Ivory family with confidence. In fact, it did the opposite. It made the Ivory family wary of the other noble families.

Since the other noble families need the Ivory family to be absent before they can grow stronger, it is not far-fetched to think that they might do something to facilitate the absence of the Ivory family, such as kicking them when they are down or working together with lamp bearers to eliminate them.

Bushwick thought that this was highly possible. He also thought that the noble families couldn’t be his allies since they could be used to replace him and his family.

This is not a farfetched suspicion because that’s exactly how the Ivory family came into power. The previous noble family overplayed their hand and were eliminated by the lamp bearers and were replaced by the Ivory family.

So instead of working together with the noble families to fight against the lamp bearers, he gave them an ultimatum. Either they join his family completely and lose their noble blood, or they leave the town.

Of course, choosing to leave the town is the wrong decision. Anyone who chooses to leave the town will be ambushed outside of the town.

They will be robbed and killed as soon as they leave the town. Bushwick did things this way because he didn’t want to fight in his town and cause destruction of his property.

He gave them the option to surrender or leave instead of asking them to surrender or die because he didn’t want them to resist in the town. He wanted to kill them outside of the town.

It was a good plan, but the noble families were still suspicious. They chose to leave the town, but they didn’t intend to leave by train.

The noble families all went looking for Silver Mirror to help them leave the town with his gateway. That way, Bushwick wouldn’t be able to ambush them, and they would be able to leave safely.
