Wu Yuesheng's face was so pale it was nearly devoid of color, clearly showing the severe damage his primordial spirit had suffered. Without saying a word, he cupped his hands to everyone, then quickly sat cross-legged and began meditating to recover.
The Liu Brothers fared slightly better, but they too needed to regulate their breathing.
Once the three of them had recovered, the group gathered by the pond.
"The water in this pond is the manifestation of the array barrier. It’s composed of multiple layers of barriers stacked together to form a sturdy grand array. Earlier, Junior Brother Yu and I attempted to break through the upper barriers several times, using every method we could think of, but we couldn’t proceed further. Fortunately, I have some expertise in arrays and was able to deduce the pattern of the core barrier. That’s when I thought of using the Fire Crow Token to break the array. However, once we stopped, the pond quickly returned to its original state. We must break through in one go, or all our efforts will be in vain. And we only have one chance. If the Fire Crow’s spirit within the Fire Crow Token is exhausted before the array is broken, replenishing the Fire Crow Token’s fire spirit would take several more years."
Qingting’s tone was solemn as she gave this reminder.
Everyone knew how troublesome the barrier was, so they dared not be careless. Following Qingting’s instructions, each person took up their position and prepared their own artifacts.
Shaohua Mountain was known for its sword arts, many of which were highly refined. As a result, most of its disciples were sword cultivators. Aside from Qingting, the other four all used swords.
Hermit Baiyun did not bring out his cloth pouch this time. Instead, he retrieved a wooden staff. With a light tap, an illusion of a lush forest appeared before the staff, vanishing almost as quickly as it appeared—an unusual and mysterious sight.
The Liu Brothers worked together, wielding a lotus flower. The petals of this lotus were crafted from refined iron, their edges gleaming with cold light, sharp and deadly. It was clearly a weapon of destruction, devoid of any beauty.
When Qingting saw Qin Sang bring out the Five-Elemental Breaking Sword, she immediately decided that he should take the lead in breaking the array. This was a time when unity was crucial, and Qin Sang had no objections. He flew above the barrier and stood at the center.
"Everyone, watch my hand. The moment I point to a spot, focus your artifacts on that exact location. Once the pond’s waves surge, Junior Brother Qin will drive the Five-Elemental Breaking Sword to shatter the barrier in one strike."
Qingting scanned each of their faces to ensure they were ready. When everyone signaled their understanding, she nodded slightly and directed her gaze at the pond. At the same time, she waved her hand, sending several streams of spiritual power into the water, causing gentle ripples to spread across the surface.
Qin Sang, curious, looked around. Unfortunately, his understanding of arrays and barriers was not advanced enough to allow him to detect the weaknesses in the barrier as Qingting could.
"There!"
Qingting suddenly pointed.
At her command, the group moved in unison. Beams of light flared from several artifacts. Although the scene appeared chaotic, the group’s coordination was precise. One attack followed the next, landing perfectly on the spot Qingting had indicated.
Splash…
The calm surface of the pond suddenly erupted with waves crashing against the shore.
Qin Sang took a deep breath and silently activated the Five-Elemental Breaking Sword, drawing upon the surrounding five-elemental spiritual qi. The sword transformed into five azure dragons. As soon as Qingting shouted his name, he didn’t hesitate and sent the Five-Elemental Breaking Sword hurtling toward the barrier.
Boom!
A thunderous roar echoed as water sprayed into the sky, only to vanish the moment it left the pond’s perimeter. Upon closer inspection, the water in the pond had noticeably diminished, a whole layer gone.
"Well done!"
Yu Dayue exclaimed with a smile. "Keep this up, and we’re sure to break the array."
With eight people working together, the pace of breaking the array was much faster and smoother than when only Qingting and Yu Dayue had attempted it.
They had also become increasingly adept at coordinating with one another, needing less and less instruction from Qingting. Qin Sang, in particular, had learned to time his strikes with precision, without needing any further cues.
Layer by layer, the barriers were dismantled, and the water in the pond slowly receded.
However, the pressure on them increased as they got closer to breaking the grand array. The array barrier had the ability to regenerate on its own, forcing them to not only work at maximum speed but also divert their efforts to suppress the barrier’s regeneration.
Several hours passed without any rest. Finally, only a thin layer of water remained in the pond, and a wave of excitement swept through the group, driving away their exhaustion.
"Just two more layers, and we'll reach the core of the grand array's barrier!"
Qingting's voice couldn’t fully conceal her excitement, though she remained composed enough to give clear instructions. "Let’s stop attacking the array for now. Just make sure the pond water doesn’t regenerate. Everyone, take this time to regulate your breathing. We’ll use the Fire Crow Array to break the barrier next!"
After a short period of adjustment, everyone had repositioned themselves under Qingting’s direction.
Qingting, Yu Dayue, and Hermit Baiyun—the three strongest members of the group—took up the central positions in a triangular formation. Qin Sang and the other five surrounded them in the four cardinal directions, with the Liu Brothers standing together.
The eight of them formed a seven-pointed array, encircling the pond. They each withdrew their artifacts and brought out their Fire Crow Tokens.
Qin Sang glanced down at the pond. The water was shallow enough to see the bottom, yet the depths remained eerily unfathomable. The surrounding rocks were pitch-black like the ones outside, exuding a chilling aura.
He couldn’t tell what was sealed below, but being positioned on the outer perimeter gave him more time to react if something sinister emerged.
Without revealing his thoughts, Qin Sang discreetly surveyed the surroundings, identifying a direction to escape in case of danger. Meanwhile, he secretly prepared his Profound Yin Thunderbolts, making sure he was ready for both outcomes.
"Activate the tokens!"
Qingting shouted.
Qin Sang quickly cleared his mind and focused his attention on the Fire Crow Token. Moments later, he heard sharp cawing sounds in his ears as the Fire Crow’s spirit attempted to break free from the artifact’s constraints.
However, after ten days of refining, Qin Sang had already subdued the Fire Crow spirit. The moment he activated the Fire Crow Token, the spirit became obedient.
The Fire Crow Token spun in the air, lifting itself from Qin Sang’s palm and hovering above the pond. At the same time, the other six Fire Crow Tokens also flew up.
The seven Fire Crow Tokens began to rotate around the pond, and from each one, fierce flames erupted.
The flames varied in color—some were dark green, some crimson, some pink, and others black—but they all shared an intense heat that swept away the lingering cold in the air.
Caw, caw, caw…
The constant cries of the Fire Crows grated on their nerves. As the flames emerged from the tokens, they transformed into small Fire Crows, each about the size of a palm. The sky above the pond quickly filled with a dense flock of these fiery birds.
At this point, Qin Sang and the others only needed to focus on driving their Fire Crow Tokens, leaving the task of controlling the Fire Crow Array to Qingting, Yu Dayue, and Hermit Baiyun.
The swarming Fire Crows collided midair—some devouring each other, others gracefully soaring in patterns. Despite the vastness of the sky, the sheer number of Fire Crows made it seem cramped.
Though the scene appeared chaotic at first, over time a massive Fire Crow Array gradually took shape. The array, blazing with fierce flames, radiated an overwhelming and violent energy, starkly contrasting with the cold aura of the pond’s barrier.
"Break!"
Qingting commanded in a low voice.
A deafening chorus of caws erupted from the Fire Crow Array. From the eastern side, a large swarm of Fire Crows dove downward. Mid-flight, they clustered together, forming a flaming spear that plunged fiercely into the pond!
