Chapter 2051 – Cooperation

Boom!

That golden light arced through the sky like lightning and attacked ruthlessly. The entire stretch of sky split open.

Clang!!!!

The Sword of Proximity took to the sky and clashed with it head-on.

Upon closer inspection, the golden beam was actually a swaying golden flying sword!

“You blocked it?” someone exclaimed.

Whoosh!

The golden flying sword flashed through the air and arrived in the distance, where a thin man in a jade crown and a blood-red crown took hold of it.

Su Yi could tell at a glance that he was a Limit Realm Mid-Rank God!

His Epoch Laws had reached the level of “divine flowers gathering overhead, and manifesting life in all facets.”

The Limit Realm, as the name implied, involved reaching the limit of mastery! The symbol of reaching this realm was condensing one’s Epoch Laws into a spirit platform above one’s head. Such cultivators could make their powers of the Grand Dao manifest life in all facets, with all their endless transformations.

Ancient tomes spoke of cultivators listening to deities transmitting the Dao. These accounts often included descriptions like “vivid and lifelike flowers rained from the heavens.”

These were all descriptions of Limit Realm cultivators manifesting their power of the Grand Dao.

And the man in blood-red robes was one such Limit Realm Mid-Rank God! An existence beyond Creation Realm Lesser Gods, but inferior to Fortune Realm Greater Gods.

“Who are you?” asked Su Yi.

Even in the River of Epochs, gods were extraordinarily scarce. Mid-Rank Gods like this were even scarcer; they were typically only found in the Kingdom of Lasting Light and a few of the largest, most ancient travelers’ outposts.

This was because when gods traveled the River of Epochs, they risked provoking calamitous grand tribulations. The higher their cultivation bases, the greater the risk. Thus, ordinarily speaking, few gods were willing to wander the River of Epochs.

It was thus immediately obvious to Su Yi that the man in blood-red robes who’d just ambushed him was someone important.

“Everything I do, I do forthrightly and openly, so I’ll happily tell you my name,” said the man in blood-red robes, his hands behind his back. “My family name is Yue, and my given name is Yitian. In the River of Epochs, people call me—”

But he’d only just said this when Su Yi attacked.

Distance shrank beneath the Sword of Proximity, and the ends of the earth were but an inch away. The blade immediately appeared above the man’s head and descended upon him.

Clang!!

The man in blood-red robes blocked with his golden flying sword, only for the impact to slam both him and his weapon into the river water with a massive splash.

But a moment later, an endless, pelting rain of sword qi descended from the heavens. Su Yi poured everything he had into every strike, holding nothing back in the slightest.

The man in blood-red robes was caught off guard, but he nonetheless displayed extraordinarily terrifying power. He manipulated his flying sword and attacked with all his might, breaking free of this encirclement in a single attempt.

“Again!” Su Yi attacked explosively once more, leaping through the air, sword in hand.

His momentum was unstoppable, and his sword intent rose into the firmament. Every strike was simple to the extreme, yet imbued with the most fundamental truths of the Grand Dao and full of unstoppable power.

There were no words for the beauty of heaven and earth. The greatest beauties were without shape. Creation had rules and order even without words. The Dao followed the ways of itself.

Six months in the Tower of Ancient Evils had made Su Yi’s attainments in the Dao of the Sword reach unbelievable heights. Every strike could easily slaughter a Creation Realm Lesser God.

Now, when he attacked, even a Limit Realm Mid-Rank God like the man in blood-colored robes was repeatedly forced back. He was at a disadvantage; all he could do was defend himself.

His expression was unsightly, and he was overcome with fury and shock. This is a Great Realm cultivator? That’s simply unreasonable!

But although Su Yi wanted to capture the man in red robes alive, it wasn’t that easy.

Boom!!

A heaven-shaking impact rang out as the man in red was forced back once more. Sword qi swept across his cheek, leaving a wound so deep that his bones were visible.

The man looked stricken, and he immediately crushed a snow-white talisman.

Boom!

Countless thick, dazzling white lightning bolts fell from the sky, enveloping the entire stretch of sky. Even Su Yi had no choice but to take that turbulent, destructive power seriously, and he immediately moved further away.

A Fortune Realm secret talisman! This was a killer weapon crafted by a Greater God. Once crushed, it erupted with force similar to that of a Greater God’s full-force attack.

Given Su Yi’s current strength, he had no hope of withstanding an attack of this level without drawing upon the Sword of the Nine Hells.

By the time the snow-white lightning had vanished, there was no sign of the man in blood-red robes.

I wonder how this guy found me… Su Yi frowned.

Yue Yitian was one of the Nine Great Heavenly Gods, and he was the divine backer of Heaven’s Reliance Tower, one of the greatest factions in the River of Epochs.

A Limit Realm Mid-Rank God!

Su Yi had learned from Wu Lingchong that the Nine Great Heavenly Gods of the Kingdom of Lasting Light included only one Greater God, Buddhist Venerate Ghama. He was the divine backer of Endless Void Temple, and rumor had it he had deep ties to the Dipakara Buddha of the Western Paradise Spirit Mountain!

A moment later, Su Yi shook his head and gave the matter no further thought.

Given his current strength, he had no need to fear Limit Realm Mid-Rank Gods in a one-on-one duel, but defeating one wouldn’t be easy, much less capturing them.

The disparity between their cultivations was just too enormous. They weren’t just two major realms apart; they were gods and he wasn’t. An entire path stood between them!

Even though Su Yi was a Transgressor, he needed to rely on a Taboo Treasure like the Sword of the Nine Hells to have any opportunity at all against a Mid-Rank God like Yue Yitian.

And even then, he merely had an opportunity…

A battle could change at a moment’s notice, just as it had earlier, when Yue Yitian used a Fortune Realm talisman to flee with ease. What god didn’t carry a few life-saving treasures?

Thus, the biggest item on Su Yi’s agenda was breaking through! He was going to attempt to break into the secret Hidden Summit Realm!

“Seen enough yet?” Su Yi suddenly turned to gaze into the distance.

“Nope.” Soft, pleasant laughter rang out, and Luo Xuanji came into view in the distance.

She was an unparalleled beauty in red, and although the Ghost Gods of the City of the Lost called her “Grandmother,” her good looks made all of creation pale in comparison. Even heaven and earth dimmed before her.

Who could have imagined that this woman wasn’t of this era, and that she was in fact an ancient god who’d fought her way to life as her epoch of origin disappeared into the past? Who’d have thought that she was once the ruler of the City of the Lost, one of the Eight Great Forbidden Zones?

“When we met in the City of the Lost, you couldn’t have shaken a Mid-Rank God. It’s been just half a year, but you already sent a Mid-Rank God fleeing in disgrace. Your progress… is far too great.” Luo Xuanji walked over, her red dress swaying around her, her jade-like, snowy legs coming in and out of view. This lent her an additional mysteriousness and charm.

Su Yi said calmly, “If you’re just here to reminisce, forgive me for not joining you!”

This woman was shrewd, unreadable, cold, and cruel. Back in the City of the Lost, she’d used her subordinates to set a trap, and he’d fallen for it, too. She’d tricked him into breaking the shackles of her curse for her.

It was much like the old anecdote about “repairing the plank road openly while crossing the Wei River in secret.” Much like that famous general, Luo Xuanji diverted his attention with a soul clone, while in truth, her main body had left the City of the Lost a long time ago.

All of this was to ensure that nothing went wrong and to avoid risking her true body’s safety. Her methods and boldness were unquestionably terrifying.

Even disregarding that, the mere fact that she was the first and only ruler of a forbidden zone to break free made her an unparalleled figure!

Luo Xuanji couldn’t help but smile in the face of Su Yi’s cold aversion to her. She batted her eyes and said, “Fellow Daoist, are you perhaps afraid of me?”

Su Yi laughed dryly. “You think too highly of yourself.”

With that, he turned to leave. The Sword of Proximity carried him off, the picture of unaffected ease. He turned his back on the ruler of a forbidden zone without the slightest concern.

Luo Xuanji’s eyes flashed, and a moment later, she laughed quietly and gave chase, her red dress fluttering around her.

“You’ve been tailing me in secret since I left the Tower of Ancient Evils. Why keep at it even after I pointed it out? How could the lofty ruler of a forbidden zone be so thick-skinned?” Su Yi jeered without so much as turning his head to look at her.

He really had sensed someone tailing him from the moment he left the Tower of Ancient Evils. It was just that every time he tried to track them down, his attempts ended in failure.

It was only just now, as he fought Yue Yitian, that he finally caught a wisp of her presence. Only then did he realize that it was the unfathomable, cold, and cruel Luo Xuanji who’d been tailing him this entire time!

When Su Yi accused her of “thick skin,” Luo Xuanji couldn’t help but burst into sputtering laughter. “Actually, I realized a long time ago that you were helpless against me. That’s why you act so exasperated and averse to me. If you could handle me, you’d have attacked long ago.”

“Want to try me?” Su Yi stopped in his tracks and turned to face her, his gaze cold. “You needn’t keep probing me like this. I’ll tell you directly that if you try anything, it will end badly for you.”

Luo Xuanji twirled a lock of soft, lustrous white hair and flashed him a charming smile. “Fellow Daoist, you’ve really misunderstood me. I’ve always been terrified to die. I remained trapped in the City of the Lost for eighteen epochs just to survive. How could I possibly knowingly endanger myself? Besides, you’re my savior. If not for you, how could I possibly have escaped the City of the Lost?”

Her voice was like a burbling spring, the music of nature, and she was an unparalleled beauty. Her red dress lent her an additional, startling charm. It was hard to believe that she was the ruler of a forbidden zone.

Su Yi took a deep, hard look at her. “Then what are you after? I don’t want to hear any nonsense, and I don’t trust you at all. Just tell me what you want.”

Luo Xuanji wiped the smile off her face, looked him right in the eye, and said solemnly, “I want to work with you.”

“Work with me?” Su Yi arched an eyebrow.

“That’s right,” said Luo Xuanji. “I’ll protect you until we reach the Kingdom of Lasting Light. In exchange, you’ll bring me to the Path of Ancient Gods with you. How about it?”

Su Yi was instantly on guard. She seriously figured out that I’m on my way to the Kingdom of Lasting Light?

Right… She must know that I’ve acquired the Epoch Spark on the ninth floor of the Tower of Ancient Evils, and that it’s the key to the Path of the Ancient Gods!

It even seems likely that she watched the entirety of the battle outside the Tower of Ancient Evils!

Su Yi’s thoughts raced. He couldn’t help but ask, “What do you want to go there for?”

She wasn’t after his power of reincarnation, nor was she after the Epoch Spark. Instead, she wanted to work with him and join him in the Path of the Ancient Gods. Su Yi couldn’t help but find this surprising.

“You might not believe me even if I told you…” Luo Xuanji sighed, her bright eyes shining with reminiscence and grief.

But Su Yi immediately interrupted her. “Then don’t say anything.”

“????” Luo Xuanji’s next words had been on the very tip of her tongue when he interrupted her. She felt so stifled that she almost couldn’t resist teaching Su Yi a lesson.

He really doesn’t take me at all seriously, huh?
