Chapter 1028: Q&A

“You’re joking… Is that all you have to say?”

Abaddon slowly stood up from the ground and sighed.

He glanced over his shoulder at Lailah and smiled at her pitifully.

“My darling… I know you’re hurting. You are free to feel how you want. But so am I.”

“But why aren’t you mad?!”

“Because our wife just told me she’s the only reason I’m not dead. The matter of secrecy aside, you would have me repay that with scorn?”

Lailah looked away with her fists clenched. She would have her husband take her side.

No matter how smart or logical a person may be, they sometimes do not wish to be so.

Lailah was struggling with that now.

Abaddon felt a shaky hand take his own.

“Don’t you think you’re being too kind to me..?” Eris asked in a small voice.

“You’re wearing the wedding ring I gave you, so no.”

“S-Stop joking with me, Abaddon! Is everything that I have told you so easy for you to dismiss??”

“Little bit.”

Erica could feel many emotions coming from her wife at that moment. She worried that if her husband didn’t take a few steps back, she might punch him.

“Umm…”

Everyone followed Izanami’s voice and found her standing closely behind Eris.

“I’m… not all that upset either. I-I mean, I do feel surprised and maybe a little hurt, but… I believe that I mostly have questions?”

“Ditto on that…”

Bekka wandered forward and sat beside Izanami. “Feel like answering some questions for some old fools?”

Eris nodded desperately. For the first time in a while, she managed to stop crying.

“I… will tell you anything that you want to know.” she vowed.

Bekka pulled Izanami into her lap. Abaddon moved to their side and sat down.

One by one, the other wives moved to sit at the foot of Eris. Lailah and Sif were the only ones who had more… frigid responses.

But Eris tried not to let her gaze linger on them for too long. Or else the walls she had built up might have come crumbling down again.

“So, umm… who’s going first?”

Izanami raised her hand.

“The reason I… developed feelings for you… That isn’t because of-“

“No.” Eris shook her head hard. “I-I wouldn’t… use my powers for that. At least not intentionally. But I will admit that it might have helped me get close to you all quicker than normal.”

Izanami seemed a little bit relieved.

Bekka gave her a playful nudge. “You hear that, babyface? You were simping for our Eris under your own power.”

Izanami’s face turned beet red as she rained a series of harmless blows on Bekka’s head.

Abaddon’s question was next.

“So… the time I was attempting to repair my damaged soul with my divinities… You were the reason it worked?”

At this, Eris smiled wryly.

“I just… heightened the chance that you would retain enough of yourself to do what you do best. Fight. You shredded your soul into pieces so fine that you were going to Oblivion regardless.”

“So… my most defining moment was not a total coincidence. I’m still worthy of a bit of praise, right?” He grinned.

For some reason, Eris could not help but let a giggle slip past her lips.

She tried her best not to smile.

“Yes, worthy of praise indeed. No one kills themselves quite like you do.”

The wives found themselves chuckling. They chuckled even louder when Abaddon folded his arms and huffed.

After they calmed down, Valerie was the next to ask a question.

“So, umm… how much of that super terrifying Egoless power you got left?”

Eris held up a big fat zero with her fingers.

“Bringing us all back together again… used up the very last of those powers. I can’t protect us from fate and circumstance like before.”

“You never should have been protecting us alone. Though we are all grateful, it’s a burden we all should have shared.”

Eris was touched by Valerie’s attempts to comfort her. Even though she didn’t feel as though she deserved it.

For a while, the questions continued. No one was really raising their hands to speak so much as they were shooting questions at her at rapid fire.

And Eris tried her best to keep up with everything she was asked without falling behind.

“Couldn’t you have used your powers to make sure we had all girls?”

“Abaddon.”

“Just asking…”

“How come you never told us about… anything?”

“I never wished to attract their attention. The Balance is quite unmerciful in fulfilling their function.

As an outlier that should not exist, I never had any assurances that he wouldn’t erase me for my meddling.

Also… too much time went by without me saying anything. I was scared. I didn’t want any of you to be mad with me.”

“How were you even able to hide this from us for so long…?”

“I just… heightened the probability that you wouldn’t look at our shared memories too hard…A-Again, I’m very sorry.”

Everyone accepted without giving her apology much thought to it. But they did wonder to what degree she could influence events if it even worked on them.

“What are the other Egoless like?”

“I’ve never spoken to Chaos, but the others are… Robotic. Unlikeable. Though Life is… sweet. She was everything to me before I fell. We were never apart.”

As questions kept flying, Lailah stubbornly remained in the back of the group- nestled in the arms of Sif.

The questions in the background were little more than white noise to her. Her mind was on the verge of another breakthrough.

“It was… you!”

Everyone turned to Lailah, who wormed their way out of Sif’s arms.

“The reason why we look different now when we’re unified, a-and even the reason Sif and Izanami can unify at all… It’s because of you, isn’t it?”

Eris rubbed the back of her head shyly.

“…Guilty.”

Once again, everyone was quite surprised.

“What exactly did you do to us..?” Lisa tilted her head.

Eris began rubbing her hands anxiously.

“I had been trying for years to erase the mark of ownership Chaos placed on our souls in the first timeline.

But since I could only do so much without alerting you all due to our connection, I was never able to get very far… b-but a couple of months ago, I had a thought.

Instead of trying to fully get rid of the brand Chaos had placed on us all, I thought it would be easier to… tweak them just a bit.” Eris smiled sheepishly.

“Tweak how exactly?” Tatiana asked suspiciously.

Eris smiled wryly. “W-Well… think of it like this… Chaos had homework she put a lot of work into.

She did it all, but instead of turning it in to be graded, she left it sitting on her desk while she went to go pee.

I kind of… erased her name and put someone else’s while she was in the bathroom..?”

’Has she always been this kind of bad girl and I just didn’t notice..?’ Everyone thought at once.

They couldn’t tell if they were easily seduced or just touch-starved, but Eris was looking incredibly tantalizing to them at the moment.

“And whose name did you put in her place..?” Erica leaned forward.

Eris smiled sheepishly.

Seeing the look on her face, Erica no longer required an answer.

“So, we are the new vessel for Possibility.” Bekka brought a hand to her head before glancing at Izanami and Sif. “Then would I be right in guessing that those two are for Life?”

Eris scratched the back of her head in embarrassment.

“I wanted to get ahead of any more attempts to take over any of us… Plus it just made sense, since more voices inside of Ayaana would have made it harder for us to keep our form together.”

Izanami looked down at her hands and squeezed them. They felt the same as they always did.

“I don’t quite feel like a vessel for Life. Should I not be powerful? And where are my abs- I feel like I should have abs.”

“NO!” Everyone yelled at once.

Izanami felt a myriad of complex emotions.

“We aren’t quite like Abaddon.” Eris admitted. “Oblivion and he have already made contact, forming an equal inheritance. They’re merging together slowly but surely.

If Abaddon had been created as a perfect vessel for him, their unification would have probably already happened by now.

We aren’t connected to Life and Possibility yet; we’re just promised to them. It would be up to them to actually accept once they were made aware of us.”

“Isn’t that dangerous? Won’t they just try to take us over like Chaos??”

Eris shook her head. “They’re blank slates, and they’re far from malevolent beings- they just want to do their jobs and do them well. At the very worst, they would inhabit our bodies to live vicariously through us.”

Seras went back to raising her hand. “And how likely is that to happen exactly…?”

“L-Less than five percent, I suppose?”

“Not sounding super confident, babe.”

“L-Look, I just lost my power to manipulate these kinds of things, okay? Give me a little break!”

Seras and the other wives chuckled for a short time.

Eris sighed as she fumbled with her fingers nervously.

“I know that it’s not a perfect fix, okay…? But I just thought… better the devil you know than the devil you don’t.

No matter what, Chaos can not be allowed to obtain an unrestricted vessel. Since I’ve pledged us to Life and Possibility, she won’t be able to touch us without inciting a war.”

“And how exactly do they not know of us already if this is the case…?” Lisa asked.

“I’ve only pledged us to them. It’s like naming your child after a famous celebrity. They won’t know unless you tell them in a loud enough way. Anyone have more questions?”

Every single dragon put their hands up all at once.

*Sigh*
