Earth Spike!
Rhett wouldn't miss this opportunity. In an instant, he gathered his mental power and cast an Earth Spike spell.
"Swish!"
A sharp spike burst from the ground.
The spike pierced through the heart of one of the knights, blood gushing from his chest. After a couple of convulsions, the knight's body went limp and collapsed to the ground.
At the same time, the three sand wolves, under Rhett's control, surged forward with all their might, charging at the three mages facing Goldsand!
Though Goldsand's movements were as elusive as a ghost, and her whip lashed through the air with a sharp crack, one of the mages was a formidable fourth-level magic master, no easy opponent. The other two were third-level magic users, clearly elite. Goldsand found herself momentarily locked in a stalemate.
Whip shadows danced through the air, while magical light flickered, interspersed with explosions and blasts.
The three mages, who had just emerged from the tunnel, were quickly ambushed. Faced with Goldsand, a fourth-level wind knight, they felt the imminent threat of death. Her whip, like the scythe of the grim reaper, hovered over their necks, forcing them to fight with extreme caution.
"Ice Spike!"A deep blue glow flickered in the air as a translucent ice spike descended from above, coated in a frost that aimed directly for Goldsand's head.
With a powerful push from her long, shapely legs, Goldsand swiftly sidestepped, effortlessly dodging the ice spike.
But then, the fourth-level water mage sneered wickedly.
In the next instant, a chilling cold spread through the air, freezing to the core.
Goldsand, having just avoided the ice spike, suddenly felt a cold touch on her skin. Alarmed, she reacted too late as a soft yet incredibly strong pale blue ring wrapped tightly around her body, cocooning her like a silken web.
Second-level Water Magic—Water Binding!
This spell severely restricted Goldsand, causing her significant trouble.
"Damn it!" Goldsand's beautiful face turned icy, her eyes burning with fury and killing intent. She struggled desperately against the blue ropes that bound her, but the Water Binding spell, though soft, was incredibly resilient, resisting her attempts to break free. She nearly stumbled from using too much force.
"Hmph, daring to block my path—you'll meet your end tonight!" The fourth-level water mage licked his lips, his face pale and sickly, but a flush of excitement spread across his cheeks. He was ready to cast another Ice Spike to finish off the woman before him.
Suddenly—
"Ah!"
A familiar scream echoed through the night. He turned his head quickly, only to see his companion impaled by a sharp earth spike, killed instantly.
This sight filled him with terror, making his soul almost flee from his body!
The strength and magnitude of the earth spike's elemental power were clearly far beyond his own level.
It was evident that this was the work of at least a fifth-level magic master.
And that wasn't the end of it. Though the area behind him was eerily silent, a sense of impending doom surged through his heart.
Belatedly, he sensed a concentration of earth elements rapidly closing in. Turning his head, he saw three sand wolves charging toward him at full speed.
All of this happened in an instant, and the three mages, realizing the situation, were overwhelmed with fear.
The third and second-level mages, terrified, immediately abandoned their resistance, tossing their wands to the ground and falling to their knees in surrender.
Only the fourth-level magic master hesitated, weighing his options.
He carried too many secrets, including something crucial for his cult leader. If he could escape successfully, unimaginable rewards awaited him.
Blinded by greed, he was unwilling to surrender.
Despite his fear, his momentary hesitation allowed the three sand wolves to pounce, breaking all six legs of the three mages, including those who had surrendered.
"Ah!" "Ah!" "Ah!"
Three cries of agony pierced the night air. The three mages curled up like shrimp, lying on the ground, pale and drenched in sweat, their shattered knees causing them constant pain and groaning.
At that moment, Goldsand's battle aura surged, allowing her to break free from the Water Binding spell.
Her eyes burned with rage as she stepped forward with rapid strides, ready to finish off the three villains.
"Hold on, leave them alive!" Rhett rushed over, urgently calling out to stop Goldsand.
He was counting on extracting secrets from these people, and they couldn’t be killed just yet.
The air whistled as Goldsand's whip, glowing with a bright blue light, was raised high, poised to strike. But upon hearing Rhett's plea, she hesitated, her expression conflicted, remembering how he had saved her earlier.
Eventually, she slowly lowered her hand.
Then, crossing her arms and looking away, she struggled to suppress her anger, trying to calm herself.
Tsk tsk... Rhett glanced at her out of the corner of his eye, noting her fiery temper. Indeed, compared to Blackstar, she had a much more pronounced personality.
Rhett then stood by, watching, refraining from immediately taking down the knights Blackstar was fighting. After all, he had promised to send Blackstar a group of villains, not to have him come watch a show.
If Rhett handled everything himself, it might seem like he wasn’t keeping his word.
At this moment, Blackstar was single-handedly dealing with a fourth-level knight and seven or eight second and third-level knights. Although he was outnumbered, Rhett had full confidence in Blackstar's abilities. Even if two more fourth-level knights joined the fray, they wouldn't be able to defeat him.
What struck Rhett as peculiar was a second-level knight lingering on the battlefield's edge, too afraid to retreat yet making no move to fight.
Rhett noticed this and was curious. If this were a game in his previous life, this knight would undoubtedly be labeled a "backstabber" or an "opportunist"...
But a second-level knight was insignificant. Blackstar's small figure moved like a dark elf in the night, sometimes flashing into view, sometimes vanishing into the shadows with his Shadow Cloak spell.
From the night sky, shadow arrows and corrosive missiles occasionally shot down, each one taking a knight's life.
"Swish!" "Swish!" "Swish!"...
"Ah!"
Dark magic was always insidious and stealthy. Soon, cries of pain rang out one after another.
In less than ten minutes, Blackstar had finished his battle. The ground was littered with corpses, their blood pooling around them.
Three men survived, though barely. Despite the many evil deeds they'd committed, they had little courage. Faced with the terror of death, they quickly began to beg for mercy:
"Master Mage, please spare me! I was wrong—I’ll serve you from now on!"
"Hmph, I don't need that. I have to defeat you to prove I'm an even worse villain than you!" Blackstar's voice was cold as he stared down the fourth-level knight.
The knight hesitated, confused by Blackstar's words. Though they didn't make much sense, he quickly adapted, dropping to his knees:
"I surrender! I surrender! You are the strongest villain! Compared to you, I'm just a weakling!"
"Hmph, that's better!" Blackstar paused, his Shadow Cloak slowly dissipating, revealing his figure under the night sky.
Blackstar, you're as over-the-top as ever... Rhett thought, suppressing a twitch in his mouth. Seeing that the fight was over, he said, "Alright, leave the rest to me!"
"No problem." Blackstar’s voice carried a hint of relief. He was delighted to have defeated another strong villain.
Moments later.
"One, two, three, four, five, six..." Rhett counted the people before him. There were six in total—three mages and three knights. Among them, both the strongest—a fourth-level mage and a fourth-level knight—were still alive. The knight knelt on the ground, looking at Rhett with hope, while the other, his knees shattered, lay on the ground, his eyes filled with fear, unable to speak.
"Master Mage, you are undoubtedly the strongest!" The fourth-level knight praised him.
But I'm not looking for flattery... Rhett glanced coldly at the earth knight without responding.
Scanning the group, Rhett took a moment to ponder before asking:
"Tell me, what’s the deal with those knights earlier?"
Although he didn’t specify, it was clear he was referring to the knights who had been mindless, like walking corpses.
At his question, the group fell silent, none of them answering immediately.
"Hmm?" Rhett narrowed his eyes slightly, his expression growing cold. If they refused to speak, he wouldn't hesitate to use other methods to make them "willingly" share everything...
But just as he was about to act, a second-level knight spoke up in a weak voice:
"S-sir, I can tell you!"
Rhett's eyes lit up as he looked at the knight.
"But I have one condition—after I tell you, you must kill all of them." After saying this, the knight shrank back, shuffling to the side, clearly afraid that the others might retaliate.
Rhett paused, realizing that this situation might be more complicated than it seemed.
To be cautious, he activated the system.
【Would you like to initiate a Reality Simulation? Each day simulated costs 1 Destiny Point.】
"Yes."
Buzz
A ripple spread through the space, and Rhett's expression returned to calm as he said:
"Alright, I agree. After you tell me everything, none of these people will live."
Immediately, the others' faces changed, especially the fourth-level mage, whose eyes flickered with a mix of resentment, regret, unwillingness, and fear...
Hearing Rhett's promise, the second-level knight seemed to relax, as if relieved to have escaped danger. He composed himself and began to speak:
"My name is Leon. I'm a second-level knight and an adventurer from the Greylu Kingdom.
During an expedition, I was captured by these people.
They didn’t stop anywhere else but brought me straight here to the White Rat Range.
Afterward, I saw them capture many other knights and some mages as well."
"They captured you for experiments?" Rhett asked.
"Yes." Leon wasn’t surprised. Evil alchemists were notorious for capturing people for experiments.
He continued, "At first, I didn’t know what kind of experiments they were conducting. It wasn’t until it was my turn that I realized they were trying to control knights. It sounds too unbelievable."
Rhett narrowed his eyes. "The knights left in the cave—are they the experiment subjects?"
"Yes, but to be precise, they’re the failures. As for me... I’m the success."
"Success?" Rhett found this strange.
Looking at the second-level knight before him, he seemed normal, his eyes clear.
So if the experiment failed, the knights would become mindless like the ones they had seen earlier, but if it succeeded, the knight would remain unaffected?
Keeping his expression neutral, Rhett said, "Go on."
"Die, traitor! I knew you couldn't be trusted!"
A hysterical voice suddenly rang out. The fourth-level mage’s expression twisted into one of madness as a small purple-red bead appeared between his fingers—similar to the Blood Source Pearl, but with a more sinister hue.
Snap!
The mage crushed the bead hidden in his hand. Rhett's eyes narrowed, but he didn’t sense anything unusual.
However, Leon's face suddenly contorted in pain. His body convulsed violently, and crimson lines appeared under his pale skin, all converging toward his brain.
"Ah!"
Leon screamed in agony. "Why... why is this happening? They said—"
Before he could finish his sentence, his screams abruptly stopped. The crimson lines covering his body slowly faded, and his twisted expression smoothed out.
But… his once-clear eyes now gleamed with deep, malevolent intent, filled with bloodlust.
This scene shocked Rhett, Goldsand, and Blackstar. The remaining members of the evil alchemy group were equally stunned and confused.
Only the fourth-level mage cackled in delight, "Haha! It worked! I succeeded in summoning the Cult Leader!"
Cult Leader? Rhett's mind churned with terrifying thoughts, his eyes fixed on the man before him.
‘Leon’ stood up, surveying his surroundings.
Indeed, Rhett felt as though Leon had become a different person entirely. Blackstar and Goldsand's faces grew tense.
"Where is this?"
A low, raspy voice emerged. Although 'Leon’s' eyes were now blood-red, they showed no signs of madness. He glanced at the knights and mages nearby, then at Rhett, Blackstar, and Goldsand, seeming to grasp the situation.
The fourth-level mage beamed with joy and crawled toward 'Leon,' speaking reverently:
"Blood God Cult Leader, this is the Kingdom of Kinlan!"
"Kinlan Kingdom?" 'Leon' frowned.
"Yes, this body has successfully withstood the infusion of the Heart and Brain of the Blood Source. It was meant to become your vessel.
But as you can see, these people ruined everything, so the experiment couldn’t reach completion.
This means your hold on this body is also incomplete. You won’t be able to maintain your presence here for long."
Hearing this, Goldsand's face twisted with rage. She swung her whip, exclaiming, "So it was you who ruined everything!"
Whoosh whoosh
The whip cracked through the air, glowing with a brilliant blue light. Just as it was about to strike, a chilling darkness filled the air...
