Chapter 647: Masterplan - Part 2

By the time Ian returned home, the sky was turning blue and dawn was about to break out. He was beyond exhausted. But what he had seen at the port kept him awake. He could not sleep an ounce even if he wanted to. He even forgot the pain in his body, especially his legs were in as he lost himself to his thoughts.

"Doctor Davis?" The driver looked at the rearview mirror while he waited for the man to get off the car. They had already reached their destination. But even after a few minutes had passed, Ian had not moved an inch, forcing the man to break his thoughts unwillingly.

"Yes?" Ian mumbled absent-mindedly.

"We have reached, Doctor Davis."

It was only then that Ian came out of his stupor and looked around him to find himself already at Noah's mansion. Although this was not the place he wanted to go at that moment, he had no other choice. He could not hide the truth he had discovered at the port from his ports, especially when it concerned the lives of all of them, including himself.

Reluctantly, he got off the car and dragged his body towards the door. Other than the watch guards, who were observing the place secretly, there was no one else he could detect. It was still too early for anyone among his friends to be awake and Ian too did not have the intention of disturbing them at that time.

However, to his surprise, he saw the man he had least expected to waiting for him in the living room at that moment. Ian's eyes widened in surprise and he halted in his place as he stared at the twins' father, who already had his eyes on him.

"Mr. West, why are you still awake at this time?" He did not hide his surprise and walked toward the man, who looked exhausted but not as much as him.

"I was working." Oliver looked at the young man beside him. "And waiting for you."

"Mr. Oliver..." Again, Ian was stunned by his words.

"Have some tea. You must be exhausted. I made it just a few minutes ago." Oliver poured Ian a cup of tea, which Ian took gratefully and the moment the rejuvenating drink entered his body, he felt himself relaxing.

"Where's Maggie?" Oliver queried as he sorted out the documents and papers that lay spread on the table.

"She is accompanying her friends, Mr. West. She will be back sometime later in the evening." Ian answered, trying to keep himself calm as much as possible.

"I see." Oliver nodded and smiled at him. "I will not ask you what happened and where had you been all this time. I just hope you are not in any danger."

Ian was touched by Oliver's concern for him and he smiled back at him immediately. "Do not worry, Mr. West. I am fine. Everyone is fine." He assured him and drank another sip of tea, enjoying the feel of the warm liquid passing through his throat.

"That's good. You should take some rest. You seem tired." Oliver picked up his belongings and stood up. "I will return to my room now."

Ian nodded at him before he fell into his thoughts again. But it lasted only for a few moments as he looked at Oliver, who had his back facing him as he increased the distance between them.

"Mr. West?" Ian called and closed his eyes for a moment.

"Yes?" Oliver stopped walking right away and turned around as he waited for Ian to speak his mind.

"May I ask you something?"

"Definitely. What do you have in mind?" Oliver turned around completely so that he was now facing Ian.

"Mr. West....Ummmm...."

A sigh escaped Oliver's lips when he noticed Ian's hesitance and he retraced his path before he took his seat beside Ian.

"What's the matter? What's wrong?" He leaned back so that he could see Ian's side profile and inquired gently. He could clearly see the dilemma the young man was in. It was as though he was fighting a battle with himself. "What's troubling you?"

"I found out something today." Ian took a deep breath and looked at Oliver right in the eye.

"And?" Oliver tilted his head and his brows narrowed in curiosity.

"And, it was something related to you."

"Oh..." That was all Oliver could manage to say for he did not know what Ian had found out and why the young man was this hesitant to speak about it.

"Should I be scared?" Oliver tried to joke it off to ease the situation. But Ian's expression was as grim as ever and Oliver stopped smiling when he realized that the matter was more serious than he thought it to be.

"What's wrong, Ian? What's the matter? Why are you this perturbed?" Oliver's countenance too changed and he dropped his files on the table before he folded his hands.

"Mr. West....Umm..." Ian gritted his teeth, not at all liking the situation he was in. It was the first time ever he was this hesitant to speak his mind. The secret he had found out had released a can of worms in his mind and everyone among them led to only one man, Oliver. It was not Jared, it was not Charles but Oliver, the man he had started to consider to be his father figure.

"Yes?" Oliver prompted, not knowing what had led Ian to this state.

Ian took a deep breath and clenched his hands as he braced himself for the brutal truth. "How do you know Jared and Charles? What is Mission Code X and how are you related to it?" Ian stared intensely at the man beside him, his mind now filled with doubts. Although he did not wish to, he could not stop suspecting Oliver after all that he had found out about him just a few hours ago at the port. "It seems that there are a lot more things that we do not know about you."

Silence fell upon the place and not a sound was heard, not even their breaths. Oliver lowered his gaze for a moment before he raised his eyes again to look at Ian.

"I was wondering why no one had found out about this truth of mine all this time." Oliver smiled and Ian was taken aback to see how clear and bright his eyes were shining at that moment. There was no malice in them, no lies, no hesitance. Instead, Oliver was filled with confidence and that assured him greatly for reasons he could not decipher.

"I will answer your question, son. I will. I promise." Oliver stood up suddenly, compelling Ian too to stand up with him. "But not right now. It is not the time yet."

He picked up his files and looked at Ian for a moment. "I have some truths to reveal to you, all of you, especially my daughters. I will answer all your questions in the morning, in their presence. Until then, please be patient."

"Good night, child. You did a good job." Oliver patted Ian's shoulder before he walked away from him, leaving Ian staring at his back with his head now filled with baffling thoughts.
