Exorcist’s Self-Cultivation
Chapter 220: there really is someone next door…At the doorway.
When that hand rested on Du Wei’s shoulder, a chilling sensation seeped into his organs through his shoulder.
It felt as if he had swallowed a block of ice in the extreme cold of winter.
It was the Evil Spirit…
Unconsciously, Du Wei drew in a breath of cold air.
He sensed the strangeness coming from his shoulder.
Yet his gaze remained calm and terrifying, completely unaffected by the Evil Spirit behind him.
With an expressionless face, he turned his head and said to the arm resting on his shoulder, “Do you think I didn’t see you?”
The entire arm, as though fused with the darkness, reached out from behind the door, yet its full shape was invisible.
It seemed that the Evil Spirit had only one arm.Without any hesitation, Du Wei, holding the Dagger, thrust it straight into the arm.
Whoosh…
The hand withdrew back into the room as if electrocuted.
Seeing this, Du Wei frowned, and when he turned his head back to the end of the corridor, the vague silhouette had already faded into the darkness.
"This is interesting. I’m becoming increasingly curious about what exactly is going on with this Evil Spirit case,” he said in a detached tone.
Du Wei murmured to himself, “This looks very much like an Evil Spirit’s prank, but until now, I haven’t felt any mortal danger, or rather, it hasn’t truly made a move against me, which is quite abnormal.”
"Why is it like this? Even though it has appeared before me, it doesn’t persist in killing me like other Evil Spirits.”
"Is it because I haven’t triggered a killing rule yet?”
Du Wei couldn’t help but shake his head. Holding the Dagger, he stepped into the darkness of his room.
And what was eerie was…
As soon as he entered the room, with a click, the light bulb suddenly brightened up again, illuminating the room vividly.
Seeing this, Du Wei grew even more puzzled.
What’s going on?
The Evil Spirit’s arm had clearly come running out of his room, and he had wanted to enter the room to find its presence, but now it seemed as though everything had returned to normal.
Under Spirit Vision.
The whole room appeared “clean” to an excessive degree.
His face turned serious, “If there is an Evil Spirit in my room, then the room next door should also have something similar, even if Spirit Vision didn’t reveal any abnormalities.”
After a moment of hesitation.
Du Wei turned around and walked out of his room.
With the help of the steady light.
He arrived at the door of the room next door, peering through the peephole.
He saw nothing, as it was too dark inside.
And Spirit Vision was only geared toward Evil Spirits, meaning there was nothing in the room, no Evil Spirits, nothing else of disorder.
"I hate playing hide and seek with people, even more so with Evil Spirits…”
Du Wei gripped the Dagger, his dark eyes murky and indecipherable, hinting at a trace of danger.
"It’s past midnight now, and the tenants in my house are usually most active during this time, so you’re bound to come out again, right?”
His tone was questioning.
But the surroundings were empty, Du Wei’s words seemed to be addressed to the vanished Evil Spirit, as if to something else…
Right after.
He went back to his room, with a bang, he closed the door firmly.
But Du Wei didn’t return to bed to rest nor did he check the room for traces of the Evil Spirit’s presence. Instead, he stood behind the door, holding the Dagger in silence.
At this moment.
Thoughts raced through Du Wei’s mind.
After midnight, an abnormality first occurred outside the door, as he stood there, identical footsteps emerged from the rooms to his left and right.
Then, he chose to open the door himself, finding a strange puddle on the ground. Immediately after, the light bulb began to flicker dimly and brightly, and a blurry outline appeared at the end of the hallway.
After that, the woman’s arm in his own room eerily emerged.
He tried to summarize a pattern, but the data was too isolated and one-sided to deduce any logic.
Only the opening and closing of the door could barely provide an explanation for the appearance of the woman’s arm, but it was very far-fetched.
"Wait… maybe I should change my line of thinking.”
"If I were the Evil Spirit, how would I kill someone?”
"Trigger the mechanism, lock on the target, and kill according to the rules.”
"In this process, I would first make the target experience negative emotions, then kill or possess the target.”
"If that’s the case, then something even more terrifying and strange should happen soon.”
No sooner had Du Wei finished speaking than a creaking door-opening sound came from the room to his right, sounding suddenly.
Exactly like his previous experience.
Immediately after.
Clear footsteps were heard.
The next second.
A sharp buzzing noise suddenly rang in Du Wei’s ears, and his heart was beating violently. Due to the fast frequency, his veins bulged visibly.
Death visions appeared without any logic.
Du Wei only saw a blur before he was faced with a scene he couldn’t understand at all.
In his own room.
He walked to the door, his gaze somewhat icy, with a hint of confusion, he looked towards the room on the left. After hesitating for a few seconds, he reached out and placed his hand on the doorknob.
He gently twisted it, then pulled the door open…
Then, a puddle formed beneath his feet, and as he took a few steps forward, a slender pale woman’s arm rested on his shoulder.
Immediately after, he turned around expressionlessly with the Dagger in his hand and stabbed.
This scene was exactly the same as what Du Wei had just experienced.
He continued watching, only to see himself return to the room, and when the light turned on again, his entire expression was filled with an oddness.
Afterward, as though he had made some decision, he walked out the door toward the room on the left.
And he even peeked through the peephole into the room…
The vision abruptly stopped there.
But Du Wei’s expression turned extremely ugly.
Because he noticed that in the vision of his death, after walking out of the room, it wasn’t the room he was in.
It was the room to his right.
But why would he be in that room?
This made no sense whatsoever, and he definitely wouldn’t repeat the exact same actions as before.
Because that would be meaningless.
Facing the Evil Spirit required calmness and rationality, having the same thing happen twice was already enough for him to analyze some important information.
This doesn’t seem like me.
Du Wei narrowed his eyes, suddenly feeling a headache.
But just then.
Cautious footsteps came from outside the door.
Tip-tap, tip-tap…
The footsteps, getting closer and closer, stopped abruptly as they reached the door.
The next second.
The light bulb inside the room, as if sensing something, went out completely, plunging him into darkness.
But in the instant the light disappeared, Du Wei caught sight of an eye appearing at the peephole.
As if someone was standing outside his room door, peering inside.
