At the entrance of the amusement park.
Du Wei held the black umbrella in his left hand and clutched the Joker Card that could grant wishes in his right hand, his gaze coldly fixed on Pennywise perched on his shoulder.
"From now on, I’ll be your target, even though I don’t meet the so-called prerequisites of fear and age,” he said. “You’ll still set your sights on me, and you won’t be able to shake off this connection.”
His voice was gloomy, making him seem more like an Evil Spirit than the Pennywise Clown.
This time, Du Wei did not make a wish while wearing a mask, so the wish directly affected himself.
The next second.
A long-missed malice emanated unrestrained from the body of the Pennywise Clown.
Its eyes were venomous and cruel, fixed intently on Du Wei.
Yet Du Wei felt a strange connection forming between himself and the entity.
He had indeed become its target, but he did not feel the oppression that comes with the threat of death when an Evil Spirit sets its eyes on someone. In other words, Du Wei was safe.
"As long as I’m not afraid of you and don’t get scared, you can’t threaten my life,” he said.
As he looked at the Pennywise Clown, Du Wei made his calm judgement.
At the same time, his Evil Spirit Transformed right hand slipped the Joker Card into his pocket.
But the Pennywise Clown opened its jagged-mouth wide, resembling the mouth of some insect, split into many flaps, its blood-red tongue dripping with blood, as it lunged straight for Du Wei’s neck.
"This won’t work on me,” said Du Wei, his gaze cold and utterly still.
The gaping maw of the Pennywise Clown got closer and closer to Du Wei’s neck, yet slower and slower in its approach.
It was deliberate…
The more one fears it, the more terrifying it becomes.
Conversely, the less one fears it, the weaker it gets.
Du Wei extended his right hand, grabbing towards the Clown’s throat.
Though his Evil Spirit Transformation was problematic and did not exhibit the normal abilities a hunter should have, it enabled him to touch an Evil Spirit.
This was thoroughly verified earlier.
However, as soon as Du Wei made his move, something unexpected happened.
The Pennywise Clown quickly retracted its protruding head, and the split maw returned to normal.
Then, it vanished altogether.
…
On the spot.
Du Wei looked around the empty surroundings, his eyes exhibiting an odd expression.
He had intended to bring the Pennywise Clown back to the clinic, but before he could make his move, it had already fled.
This…
Du Wei murmured to himself, “It seems that in a sense, I have become your nemesis. But is running away of any use?”
He turned his head, feeling the connection between himself and the Pennywise Clown, and looked towards the interior of the amusement park.
This connection forged through a wish on the Joker Card could not be screened or severed.
No matter where it went, Du Wei could find it.
Drip, drip…
Footsteps echoed.
Du Wei walked straight into the amusement park.
One was a hunter with Evil Spirit Transformation, the other was the suspected Evil Spirit, Pennywise.
When they collided, an intense contrast arose between the two.
The Evil Spirit, which should have been in a dominant position, became a weak entity.
Du Wei became the powerful one instead.
And now, he had to capture Pennywise and take it back to the clinic, to the Antique Clock, to settle the bet.
…
The rain grew heavier.
It was supposed to be midday, yet the sky was terrifyingly overcast.
Inside the amusement park, the water had flooded over the ankles, converging and rushing violently.
There were no staff members.
Clearly, in this kind of weather, the amusement park would not be operating normally.
And this facilitated Du Wei’s actions.
He walked in the rain at a steady pace, holding a black umbrella.
In his Spirit Vision mode, everything around him was calm and there was nothing out of the ordinary.
But, thanks to his connection with the Pennywise Clown, Du Wei could feel it was near.
His gaze swept through the interior of the amusement park, finally stopping at a huge white tent.
Beside it, a sign stated that one of the park’s most spectacular attractions was here—the clown’s performance of murdering nobility.
"It seems you haven’t given up.”
Du Wei said indifferently, casually pulling out a dagger about thirty centimeters long from his backpack.
This was the medium of the Evil Corpse that had already been destroyed, and it was also the very thing the shadowy figure most desired.
His right hand caressed the firm texture of the dagger’s handle, and that colder, sinister air entwined around Du Wei along the blade.
At this moment.
He was eerily similar to that murderous Evil Corpse cloaked in a raincoat from before.
Only, he was alive and more agile than an Evil Corpse.
Arriving at the entrance of the huge tent, Du Wei flung open the draping curtain with one hand.
The interior was well lit; overhead, more than a dozen incandescent lights made the space exceptionally bright.
Closest to Du Wei was a pushcart, which appeared to be used for selling snacks.
Further on, the chairs were slightly disorganized but still formed a continuous row.
In the center was a large, cleared area with some rusted cages, and the Pennywise Clown, standing right in the middle.
It held a red balloon in its hand, its smile twisted and fierce, emitting a cruel laugh.
"Hehehe…”
The laughter was malevolent, and just like at the beginning, it beckoned Du Wei with a wave of its hand.
As if to lure Du Wei to come closer.
But Du Wei didn’t immediately move toward it, rather, he kept his gaze fixed on the surrounding scene and the light bulbs overhead.
This should be a small circus…
But normally, an amusement park would cut off the power supply when not in operation; there wouldn’t be electrical devices in use.
Yet this circus was brightly lit, almost dazzlingly so…
Du Wei thoughtfully focused his gaze on the Pennywise Clown that kept beckoning to him.
Clearly, it wanted him to come over.
Suddenly.
A slightly eerie smile appeared on Du Wei’s face.
"I know what you want to do, but it doesn’t matter. As you wish, I’ll come to you now.”
He said so and acted on it.
He even quickened his pace toward the Pennywise Clown.
"Snap…”
The light bulbs at the top of the circus behind him started to flicker, with one extinguishing first.
It just so happened that the extinguished bulb was right at the entrance of the circus, and the light there dimmed immediately.
Du Wei, however, kept walking without looking back.
The closer he got to the Pennywise Clown, the faster the lights went out.
In just a few seconds, only two of the entire circus’s incandescent lights remained.
The entrance plunged into utter darkness, as if an invisible chasm that would completely engulf anyone who dared to enter it.
At that time.
There were some abnormal changes inside the circus too.
The remaining two lights seemed to be deliberately manipulated, each focusing on Du Wei and Pennywise Clown, forming two circular columns of light.
The distance between them was only five steps, like main characters performing in a drama on stage.
Apart from that, it was pitch-black.
Then, Du Wei also stopped moving. He simply looked at the Pennywise Clown opposite him and said in an unusually calm voice, “Every child has an instinctive fear of the dark; one feels safe only in the light. Once the light disappears, it influences everyone.”
"This is a sort of malicious psychological suggestion. You can try and see if it works on me.”
