Chapter 439: Chapter 439 Food Solution

The world twisted again.

But this time, there was hesitation.

Michael felt resistance—like he was pushing through something.

And then—

Shift.

Michael reappeared, his back facing the bed, now standing in front of the wardrobe.

His eyes were still closed.

He opened them slowly, his heartbeat thumping in his chest and the faint hum of energy still vibrating in his veins.

It had worked.

Michael exhaled sharply, half in awe, half in disbelief.

“So… it’s visible, not seen.”

That was what the description had said. The requirement hadn’t been to see the spot. It had been for the spot to be visible.

This meant if he could see it with his awareness z it counted as the spot being visible.

“If visibility didn’t require direct line of sight, then Phase Shift was even more versatile than Michael thought.

Michael flexed his fingers slowly, the faint tingling still there.

But it hadn’t been perfect.

The resistance he’d felt before—he couldn’t ignore it.

“That hesitation…” he muttered. “Was it because I didn’t look?”

It seems vision with his eyes was still superior.

This made Michael hesitant to try to see if he could phase between walls.

Just as Michael was considering if he should run another test, a soft voice chirped in his head.

“Hungry…”

Michael paused.

Then blinked.

“…What?”

“I’m hungry,” Wisdom repeated through their mental link. Its tone was high-pitched, almost whiny—like a child nudging a parent for snacks.

Michael turned to glance at the owl, which was now sitting up on the bed, blinking its bright, silvery eyes at him.

“Do you have any shiny stuff I can eat?” the voice added with innocent eagerness.

Michael’s brow twitched.

“Shiny… stuff?”

Wisdom bobbed its head, talons curling against the sheets.

“Yes! The sparkly things. Like last time! Tasted warm. Good. Crunchy.”

Michael’s frown deepened.

He suspected he knew exactly what Wisdom was referring to.

It should be the stuff it had taken that had mutated it.

Michael pinched the bridge of his nose.

“I don’t have any on me right now,” he muttered aloud, mostly to himself.

Wisdom tilted its head, blinking innocently. “Then find one?”

Michael gave it a deadpan stare.

The owl’s wings twitched.

Michael groaned again.

Great.

He had a half-space-type bird with a shiny addiction.

And now, it was his responsibility to feed it.

Of course it was.

He glanced at Wisdom, who was still watching him expectantly.

“Fine,” he muttered. “I’ll figure something out.”

Wisdom let out a pleased hoot and settled down again, clearly satisfied.

Michael wasn’t entirely helpless in Wisdom’s case.

Sure, he didn’t have a stockpile of miracle-class items just lying around, but he had a theory—and it wasn’t a bad one.

Michael suspected that as long as an item was edible and had some mana coursing through it—Wisdom should be able to take it.

It was a ridiculous requirement for a pet, but not an impossible one.

As for why the Duke’s people hadn’t figured this out?

Well, that was easy.

Who was going to waste a rare or enchanted material on feeding an owl? Only someone with more guts than sense—or perhaps someone with both, and a dangerous lack of regard for their wallet.

Still, now that the bond had been formed, he had a responsibility to keep the owl healthy. And if the only way to do that was by feeding it mana-infused “shiny things,” then… well. He’d make it work.

Eventually.

The Super Association in Aurora would be able to help him—and since he also needed to return there to research a few things, like how beast tamers stored their pets (or if they even did at all), it worked out perfectly.

However, Michael couldn’t leave just yet.

He didn’t want to be absent when the Duke’s designated envoy arrived to finalize the symbol inscription. Missing that would be very bad.

Fortunately, Wisdom still seemed capable of holding off his hunger for now, so Michael was fine with waiting a little longer.

With Wisdom temporarily pacified and no immediate tasks pressing down on him, Michael sank onto the floor and crossed his legs. He slowly let out a breath, closed his eyes, and began circulating his cultivation technique.

The familiar rhythm greeted him—cool energy trickling through his body like a slow, meandering stream.

But something felt… off. The flow was sluggish, less responsive than before.

He’d known this day would come.

The technique he was using was a basic one—but it simply wasn’t keeping up anymore. Not with his current stage, not with his evolving needs.

Still, it was better than nothing.

Minutes passed. Then an hour. He kept his breathing even, his mind focused, drawing in the ambient mana. Yet, with each cycle, he grew more certain: this method was outdated.

Michael opened his eyes with a quiet sigh. “I need a better one,” he muttered.

His thoughts turned to Mage Lian.

The old man still owed him—deeply. Between the favor Michael had done for him and the implications of what he represented, Lian wouldn’t dare brush him off. And with how casually that man tossed around rare knowledge and ancient scrolls, surely another cultivation technique wouldn’t be too much to ask.

Michael sank deeper into the rhythm of meditation, letting the sluggish currents of energy swirl through his meridians. It was the only thing that helped pass the time without spiraling into frustration. With each breath, the weight in his body lightened just a little, and the haze of exhaustion dulled.

And so Michael waited.

Until—

Knock. Knock.

Michael’s eyes snapped open. He didn’t speak, but his head tilted slightly toward the door.

Another knock came. A bit louder.

“My Lord,” Ace’s voice called from the hallway. “There’s someone here to see you.”

Michael only stayed still for a moment before standing up.

There was only one person he’d been expecting.

He smoothed out his clothes, dusted off a stray feather Wisdom had left on his shoulder, and walked to the door.

On the other side of the door was Ace with a respectful bow. Michael acknowledged him with a nod as he made his way downstairs.
