Chapter 237: Useless
Inside, the thickness of the smoke had risen by a large margin. If not for her evolved status, it would’ve been hard to make out anything aside from the voracious laughter and clatter of drinks as the women entered.
Karla took sight of the room in a glance. Multiple men, just as many as the women who had come in, sat lazily on leather couches, expensive drinks cluttered around the low tables in front of them.
“The women are here!”
The loud shout was followed by cheers as the other men raised their drinks high in the air.
“C’mon! Don’t just stand over there! Let me feel those loads!” the man seated in the middle said, and the women quickly composed themselves before scurrying toward each man.
‘He’s the leader.’ Karla’s mind spun as she looked at the man who had just spoken.
This was where the major part of her mission came in. The subordinates might know snippets of things, but no one could compare to the leader. She had to be the one who got close to him.
Her gaze flickered to the woman already heading toward him with a seductive smile. She was the oldest of the bunch, and apparently, seniority ran things. Not that Karla cared.
She adjusted her cleavage slightly, making sure the man saw, then gave him a wink.
That did the trick. It was as though a switch flipped. A smile stretched across the man’s face as he pointed toward her.
“You! I want you by my side.”
“Wait! What about me?!” the older woman snapped, but the man waved her off, eyes never leaving Karla.
“Yes, sir,” Karla said, her voice low, low enough to make hearts skip. She ignored the woman’s glare and took a seat beside the man.
The next few hours tested Karla’s patience. She couldn’t count the number of groping hands she had to dodge, or the vulgar remarks and demeaning words she had to sway through.
The other men were no better, and soon, the already drunk group became even drunker.
That was her cue.
She leaned in close, lips barely grazing his ear, and whispered something soft. His face flushed for a second before he nodded rapidly.
“Well, men! I’ll be leaving first. Got something… soft to take care of, if you know what I mean.”
“Don’t break her, you bastard!” one of the men hollered, followed by a chorus of laughter.
Karla gave a reassuring nod to Julia as she left the room with the man. A few minutes later, they entered one of the private rooms The Nocturne offered its guests, in case they wanted to spend the night… or, like now, take care of “soft business.”
The moment they stepped in, the man turned with a grin.
“Heh… I’m gonna pound you till you can’t walk straight tomorrow.”
“Really?” Karla replied with a sultry smile. “I can’t wait.”
He shoved her lightly toward the bed, already tugging off his shirt. But then, his movements began to slow.
“Huh… what?” he mumbled, blinking, shaking his head as if something was off.
“Come on, baby.” Karla stepped forward and gently pulled him close.
The man stumbled, disoriented, shaking his head harder. Then, unable to hold himself up, he slumped.
Karla stepped out of the way, letting him fall onto the bed with a small grunt.
As he tossed and turned on the mattress, groaning faintly, Karla stood over him and let out a long sigh.
“Finally,” she muttered. Her smile had vanished, her face now cold as ice as she looked at the dazed man.
She had slipped a dose of Mirathin into his drink. a rare hallucinogen that caused confusion and disorientation even to Synergy stage evolvers.
Right now, the man was lost in illusion, trapped in false visions. He wouldn’t even know he was spilling secrets. It only worked on those who had completely let their guard down.
Karla got to work quickly. Her questions came sharp and fast. She didn’t plan on staying any longer than necessary.
From what he said, the man was apparently one of the close guards to a direct descendant of the Tendrix Clan. And unfortunately, most of the information he gave was useless.
Until one thing.
“What did you say?” Karla asked sharply.
The man groaned. “Sudrex… blowup… bastards…”
Karla clicked her tongue as she saw his body start to slow. The drug was wearing off.
Shit.
A moment later, the man went limp, fast asleep. Just as she expected. He wouldn’t wake till the next day, and even then, he’d remember nothing about tonight.
‘I can’t just leave it at this…’
He had just used “blowup” and “Sudrex” in the same sentence. There was something going on, and she had to find out what.
‘I’ll search him.’
Karla began going through the man’s pockets, down to his stinking boots, but only came up with one thing.
‘A key?’
She stared at the small metal piece in her palm. A single key, held by a plastic key holder shaped like a tiny clown.
‘I’ve seen this before.’
Karla racked her memory. She had gone around the city with the other girls before and could have sworn this image had caught her eye somewhere.
‘It’s that place.’
The realization hit. The place she remembered was located in the middle class district. But what would a close guard to a Tendrix direct descendant be doing there? And more importantly, Karla could vaguely recall, it didn’t look like a place people lived in.
‘I have to check it out.’
Karla adjusted her clothes, fixing them to something more practical, then left the room and headed downstairs toward the bar. The club’s gate was heavily guarded, but she already had an idea of who would help her slip through.
“I need to leave.”
Unoa raised an eyebrow, eyeing the beautiful blonde woman standing in front of him. “Do I know you?”
Karla made sure no one was close enough to overhear, then leaned in.
“Listen you insufferable prick,” she whispered. “I currently have a lead I’m working on. So unless you want me to inform the Ninth Vein about how useless you’ve been during this mission, I suggest you tell me how to get out of this place.”
