Chapter 279

#6 Their Circumstances: Circumstances of a Certain Demon King

Becoming a Demon King and escaping from the rules of the world was good, but there was one regretful thing.

“You’re slow.”

Because I can’t use magic, I have to move by myself.

I realized how tedious this action was after giving up being a dragon.

When I was a dragon, I moved using spatial magic, so I didn’t know that moving was this tedious.

I finally got what I wanted, yet I’m envious of my past self.

While feeling these contradictory emotions, I ran and ran with my best effort.

“Is this the place?”

It wasn’t the place I originally wanted to go, but evil forces were also present around this area.

They might get attacked, so I should wait here.

…It definitely wasn’t because I stopped here since moving was too bothersome.

Really.

“Where…”

I checked the terrain around me.

This place was filled with the rubble of broken castle walls, but until just a while ago, it was a fortress called the last bastion of some kingdom, which got breached by the evil forces in just two days.

While it was overwhelming and couldn’t be called the last bastion, the site of a fierce battle still remained.

“I clearly remember there were forces around this area…”

I recalled that forces were hiding among the rubble of the broken walls.

The evil forces that were quietly hiding here to turn the beasts coming to eat the rotting corpses into their forces…

“They’re not here.”

Even if I’m an imperfect Demon King who can’t sense evil forces, there’s no way I can’t feel any signs of forces when I’ve approached this close.

That means,

“The enemy.”

“Tch! Kill him!”

Along with the voice, attacks came flying in from 17 places.

It was a perfect ambush.

“Ugh!”

In an instant, I dodged 8 attacks by pulling my body back, and in that position, bent my body to avoid another 4 attacks.

Then I blocked 2 attacks,

“Was this a trap?”

And collided head-on against 1 attack.

“As expected of a Demon King.”

A swordsman grabbing my fist sword said in a cold voice.

“A swordsman…”

A Sword Master.

One who has reached the pinnacle of the sword, and the one who has begun the true realm.

Among the humans occupying most of the continent, it’s a realm only permitted to an extremely small number.

“Were they heroes hiding here?”

While blocking the sword in front of me, there were 17 people who had reached such a realm around me.

A number of Sword Masters that couldn’t exist unless it was a god’s miracle.

I thought they were assassins chosen from the remaining heroes on the human side to kill the Demon King, but

“No?”

My opinion was denied very quickly.

“Heroes? Only idiots do unpaid work like that.”

“But isn’t what we’re doing even more foolish?”

“Ah, wait. Isn’t that too mean now?”

“But it’s the truth. Heroes can at least travel freely, but what about us?”

“Huh…?”

I’m hearing some incomprehensible words.

“Did we form an alliance with other kingdoms somewhere?”

“We did with some. His Majesty formed an alliance with some kingdoms to catch Sir Ast.”

“That’s right. Professor Naran is worth that.”

“But those alliances hardly provide any military support, right?”

“Yes, senior. When Professor Naran shows up, helping us sneak into other countries will be all they do.”

“Just what are they talking about?”

Do they not know I’m the Demon King?

The Demon King, known as the terror of humanity and even the world, is right in front of them! Why are those humans casually saying whatever they want as if nothing’s wrong!

“What do you mean?”

“We’ll take care of you quickly.”

“So we can fight the final boss.”

“Tch…!”

The compressed aura on the sword I’m holding begins to explosively grow.

“What is this…!”

Without the power of magic, the rules of the world don’t affect the Demon King who has escaped from them.

The inability of magic, a force bound by the world, to damage the concept of evil that has left the world is one of the rules of this world.

However, that doesn’t mean magic itself can’t damage the Demon King.

Magic is a rule of the world, and has the power to bend the rules of the world.

Simply using aura, aura reinforcement, and magic isn’t the entirety of utilizing magic.

It could also enable you to have a speed match against the Demon King by distorting space to move, or escape dangerous situations.

And like now, it can overwhelm the Demon King with strength surpassing the limits of the human body.

That’s right.

The Demon King is an ordinary human without any abilities outside the unique powers contained in the fragments of evil, because he is an existence that has left the world.

“Don’t mess with me!”

But that was in the case an ordinary human became the Demon King.

The human body clearly has its limits without the power of magic.

“My body used to be a dragon before becoming the Demon King! No matter how much I can’t use magic, there’s no way I’d lose to a human body!”

That’s right. Before becoming the Demon King, I was a dragon.

The strongest race on land.

A being whose bones become legendary treasures even after death to humans.

That was the body of a dragon.

“For a mere human to…!”

Grrr! I grit my teeth and push back the grabbed sword.

“Oh, wait? This guy’s pretty strong?”

“How can the Demon King be weak?”

“Senior, are you stupid?”

“You…!”

The swordsman in front of me is making a bewildered expression, but the other humans behind him don’t intend to help and are instead ridiculing the losing human.

Rather, Mirea was making fun of him by calling him a pathetic human.

“I’ll kill this human… and shred all of you to death!”

I’ll kill you ignorant brats.

I’ll start with the swordsman before my eyes.

I pour the tremendous power flowing out from the fragment of evil into the grabbed sword.

In a moment, this blackness will shatter. The shattering of the sword, the symbol of the swordsman, means the end of his life as a swordsman.

That’s why I couldn’t imagine what would come after this.

“Ah, this is tiring!”

“Huh?”

The swordsman kicked me away with a sudden movement of his body and stepped back.

“What is this…”

I blankly stared at the sword in my hand.

It was quite a good sword. It wasn’t made by dwarves but it was an extremely excellent sword made by humans.

He threw away… Such a sword? The swordsman did? His life, the sword called the swordsman’s life?

“Just what on earth is this…”

At that moment, space started ringing.

A storm of magical power I couldn’t ignore even during the time I was called a dragon before becoming the Demon King.

“You were… Not a swordsman!”

Only now could I understand why he threw away his sword.

He was no swordsman.

This storm of magical power was not something a swordsman could unleash.

An overwhelming storm of magical power. I felt the presence of tremendous lightning attribute magic within it.

A tremendous power that humans could not possess, no, that not even we dragons have felt before.

As I felt that power slowly gathering, I bit my trembling lips to calm myself down.

“A summoner.”

Moreover, a summoner that had made a contract with the god from another dimension.

“So you were not a swordsman…”

A summoner.

Those who fight by borrowing their summoned creature’s power, not themselves.

They had various weaknesses but the most representative was close combat. Their close combat abilities were inferior compared to mages.

Because usually, summoners hid in a safe place while their summoned creatures resolved the battle for them.

That’s why even if they commanded powerful summoned creatures, if you kill the summoner, it can easily be dealt with. And summoners learned self-defense in preparation for surprise attacks, as far as I knew.

That was a story from thousands of years ago.

Unlike us dragons, humans change fast enough that you can see the difference after just a year. So self-defense could have evolved into a whole martial arts system.

However, even so.

“For there to be a transcendental summoner who is also a swordmaster!”

There’s no way someone can summon a god and reach the realm of swordmasters at such a young age.

“Just what the h.e.l.l are you!”

The sword the ex-swordsman threw away was replaced by a warhammer in his hand.

Crackling lightning attribute magic was contained in the warhammer.

“So you were not a swordsman!”

At my shout, the man holding the warhammer nodded.

“I only learned it as a liberal arts subject.”

“What?”

If the common knowledge I knew hadn’t changed, liberal arts subjects refer to the basic knowledge learned at academies.

“Liberal arts? Swordsmanship?”

“That’s right.”

Well, he has a point.

I knew that to humans, especially nobles, swordsmanship was considered basic refinement.

Even I, a dragon, knew that piece of common knowledge.

However,

“Don’t mess with me! Who the h.e.l.l became a swordmaster through a liberal arts subject!”

As far as I knew, even the Keshar House which boasted the best swordsmanship skills in the continent, and the Arsia Academy called the swordmaster a rare talent.

Besides, those guys bet their lives on swords.

They absolutely didn’t learn swords for the purpose called liberal arts.

“You…”

He didn’t seem to be making fun of me.

Which means!

“What’s your name!”

He was a genius. With overwhelming talent so great that even we dragons would find it funny.

An irregular that the world created to balance itself.

An existence that was a singularity of the world!

“My name is Hirto. I’m the contractor of the god of thunder Thor and a member of the Ast kidnapping group.”

He calmly stated the name of the monster I engraved in my head.

Hirto, Hirto.

“I see. Hirto, my name is Parfasey. The first irregular evil itself created, the Demon King born from the hands of Demon King Wreaf, the existence who was formerly a dragon!”

It was a name I didn’t even tell the Nature hero called the strongest hero.

That’s how much I acknowledged the monster called Hirto before my eyes.

As a monster the world created to stop us.

As the world’s final line of defense,  it was created to stop us who are trying to destroy it!

“I’m honored to meet you, the ultimate bastion who will protect the world. Let me thank the world for this encounter!”

My blood started boiling.

To be honest, it was way too exciting.

Among all the past Demon Kings, Wreaf was especially unique and outstanding.

Despite being devoured by evil, he maintained his sanity and made efforts to take revenge on the world with his own will.

That’s why I thought there would be no one who could stop him.

Even the Nature hero called the strongest wasn’t his opponent.

Although the high elf and the army of elves retreated from his sudden attack, they couldn’t catch him.

So I was convinced the destruction of the world was set in stone.

At the same time, it became dreary.

Being together with someone so outstanding made it feel like we would defeat the opponent called the world too easily even though I was up against the world.

But the world was not an easy opponent.

Look at that monster!

Look at that Hirto who has perfectly fused with the god from another world!

He possessed power great enough not to fall behind the Demon King at all.

How could my blood not boil!

I calmed down my wildly beating heart and looked at Hirto.

And… He who had been silently staring opened his mouth.

“The final bastion? What are you talking about? I only came to catch Professor Naran.”

“What?”

Does he not realize his destiny?

While thinking that…

“And.”

“Wha…t……?”

At that moment, I felt like the atmosphere was being oppressed.

Overwhelming magical power, one… two… three… five… ten… and seventeen.

“They have similar levels so why am I the only one you memorized?”

“Th, this can’t be…”

Space tore and summoned creatures started popping out.

There were spirits and mythical beasts with power worthy to be called kings, and gods from other worlds too.

There was not just one monster. No, everything here was a monster.

“Is this the world’s…”

Is this the world’s answer against the Demon King who would destroy the world?

Did we pick a fight with an opponent we couldn’t win against?

“Wreaf…”

Unfortunately, it seemed we would not be able to win.

I wanted to convey this but it looked too difficult.

“Die.”

Since I was not confident I could withstand the 17 monsters charging at me.
