Chapter 2825: Surrounded

Alex looked at the hundreds of people that had gathered around him. Each one was rugged, appearing to have lived a long life with scars to show for it.

With each one flying, Alex had no doubt they were all in the Immortal realm, and thus he had no doubt they were from the Endless Night sect.

The old man had told him about this, about their hunt for Death, but he hadn’t expected them to find the two of them here, this deep into Hell. How did they know they were there?

For the briefest moment, he wondered if the old man had a hand in this, but the thought immediately went away. If the old man had wanted this, he could’ve done so a long time ago. He wouldn’t have helped Alex on his journey to find her.

So these people had to have found him on their own somehow.

The thought made him grimace a little.

He kept his eyes on everyone floating, but then was confused. How were they alive?

Alex immediately turned his head to find Death kneeling on the ground, her arm dropping before her with seemingly no control of her own, her hair draping down the same way, completely obscuring her face.

She had even let go of her sword that she never let go of at all. It now lay next to her, inches away at most, but far enough that she could do nothing with it.

Alex understood partly what had happened and what was happening. He knew they had come here while hiding from Death’s senses. The old man had created the formation, and it worked way too well. The concealment here was better than his own, since Death could sense him even when he used his concealment technique.

As for right now, they were no doubt using their main battle formation to completely suppress Death’s body, and perhaps even her mind. That was what had caused her Divine sea to act the way it did earlier.

Alex had no idea what he was supposed to do here, but he knew he had to protect Death somehow. So, he rushed for her, wanting to take her away.

However, the moment he even stepped closer, he fell into their suppression as well. He felt his mind attacked from all directions, his body no longer in his own control.

He understood at that moment that they weren’t targeting the body, but simply cutting it off from the mind. And without the mind, the body didn’t work.

Alex turned, looking up at the elders.

Each one had a grim look on their face, as though they were ready to die today. There was one among them that stood at the front, tall and straight, seemingly the leader of the group.

Alex had to guess he was the most important of the group here.

As he thought that, the man slowly moved forward, separating himself from the group. At the same time, the pressure around Alex lessened as well, but not to a point where he could do much unless he fought back.

“Are you an outsider, young man?” the man asked.

Alex spoke with some effort. “I am. Who are you?”

“Wugin Langwan, sect master of the Endless Night sect,” the man answered in a calm voice. “We’ve been watching you for some time now. Could you tell us how it is that you control her?”

Alex was surprised. Past few days? They had been here since Death started fighting these beasts? Why didn’t they attack her? Were the beasts too much of a threat?

‘Shit! Did I give them the opportunity to attack us by taking Death away from that fight?’ he thought. He had also drained her Divine sea, so she was mentally weak at this moment too.

“I can’t control her,” Alex said quickly.

“That’s not what we’ve noticed the past few days,” the sect master said. “We’ve seen her follow you around.”

“She can’t think,” Alex explained. “And she doesn’t attack me for some reason, so I can drag her around. I know why you guys are here. You want to kill her, but please, don’t do it. I’m close to healing her. That’s what you want, right? You want Death to not mindlessly kill.”

The sect master raised an eyebrow in surprise.

“Sect master?” one of the men to his side turned toward the man. “That bitch killed my grandson. We need to have our revenge no matter what.”

“That’s right. We have lost many of our comrades to her. You’ve lost dozens of your own fellow disciples. We need to kill her now.”

The sect master shook his head. “If Death can be healed, I wish to see her healed. I know she has a good soul, so we can at least give her that chance.”

The others seemed to want to complain, but the sect leader turned toward Alex. “Do you know why it is that she follows you around? Why doesn’t she kill you for merely being next to her?” he asked.

Alex was quite surprised to see that the man had actually listened to him. He wasn’t trying to mindlessly kill her. He needed to persuade him.

“I am not sure just yet. I intend to find out, just like I intend to heal her. When she is healed, I will ask her to take me away from this world so you can all rest assured.”

If the sect master was thinking through what Alex had said, he did not let it show on his face. “You could be lying.”

“I’m not. I promise.”

“I can’t take your word, I’m afraid,” the sect master said and turned to a group to the right. “I need to find out if he’s telling the truth.”

“Yes, sect master!” A dozen or so of the elders separated from the group.

Alex felt the impact on his mind lessen as they stopped, but then a different kind of pressure landed on him.

A different battle formation.
