Chapter 2817: The Old Man Returns

Chapter 2817: The Old Man Returns

Wu Shaozhen, Grand Elder of the Endless Night sect, followed Alex and Death in the sky, watching them head deeper into the Core region of Hell. He couldn’t figure out why they were going in there. Moreover, he couldn’t figure out why she hadn’t killed him yet.

It made no sense to him considering Death had left not a single person alive next to her.

He had seen the mouse die from far away, and even read the text in the sand Alex had left behind. He had warned him not to get close in case he mistakenly believed the situation to be safe.

Questions piled up in his mind.

He followed Alex and Death until the beasts began appearing one by one, the region turning into another place of massacre where corpses would pile up high like a mountain.

‘At least they’re in the core region,’ the old man thought. Members from his sect were ordered to never enter this region because of how dangerous it was. Alex had done the right thing in taking her there.

The old man realized what Alex could have been planning after that. That had been his plan from the start, so following the logic, he could tell Alex still wanted to drain Death mentally.

‘Maybe he’ll succeed,’ the old man thought.

After waiting for a few more hours, it became clear that the massacre would continue for some time. And worse, there would soon be Sun Wraiths here.

‘I haven’t cultivated in a while now,’ he thought, realizing the danger of the situation. Should a Sun Wraith escape the region and find him, he would most likely be terribly wounded.

‘I can’t stay here,’ he thought.

He wanted to continue to aid Alex. Without even him knowing, he had come to care about another outsider. But, he still needed to be practical.

‘I need to trust he’ll do the right thing,’ the old man thought. Alex would take Death away and keep her hidden until he managed to heal her or at least find out the reason for her issue.

‘I can only leave it all up to him now.’

After thinking as much, the old man turned away from the location and flew off. He had nothing else he could do here, so he would have to wait for Alex to find him and let him know if he had succeeded or failed. He trusted him to do that.

The old man found a nearby village and stayed there for a few days, spending his time cultivating to get back all the Qi he had lost in the past weeks while he had to go back and forth from the city to the place where Alex had been cultivating.

He helped the village while he was there, and left after a few days. He wanted to go check on Alex and Death, but the Sun Wraiths were too much of a threat for him to visit them.

So, with nothing else to do, he decided to return to his sect.

Since there was no hurry, the old man took his time, visiting one village after another, helping the ones that needed him. The villagers were also excited to see the Giftmasters and he wanted to give that happiness to as many people as he could.

He had always found himself becoming happy when he helped the ones that needed it. That was one of the reasons why he had started his journey all those years ago, to cover the entire desert and teach every tribe and settlement what he knew.

He gave them knowledge of scripts and runes, of formations, the knowledge of what a Sunheart did and how it should be kept in a well. Without him, there would likely be no survivors remaining in almost all of Hell.

The old man still hurried where he could, and after nearly two months, he returned to the Endless Night sect.

The sect was located right at the edge of the Core region, a location where no beasts lived. The land was also a canyon with cavernous paths that were wide enough for dozens of people to walk side by side.

From the outside, the cavern looked ordinary. But only those from the sect knew that this was the location of their sect.

The old man went in and made his way toward his workshop where he wanted to restock on metal plates to help the other villagers when he went out again.

He walked past the center region of the sect, that contained the main formation plate along with the transparent cylinder that floated in the center with white stones inside of it.

He was going to keep on going when he noticed something and turned around. He looked at the two people that guarded the formation.

“I’ve never before seen either of you here. Who are you?” the old man asked them.

“Grand Elder!” the two elders guarding the formation bowed respectfully. “We have been temporarily appointed to guard the formation while the regular elders are away.”

“There are like 10 elders that are supposed to guard this. Are all of them away?” the old man asked with a slightly annoyed voice.

The two elders nodded. “Yes, Grand Elder.”

The old man frowned. “Why?”

“They… they left to go kill Death,” one of the elders said. “All of the elders did.”

“Those bastards!” the old man said with a low grumble. “They could at least have the decency to wait until they find her. What’s the point of emptying the sect just to go search for—”

“They found her,” the elder suddenly cut him off.

The old man froze. “What?”

“Death was found,” the man said again. “One of our elders found her in the Core Region.”

The old man’s eyes widened. “What… what the hell were they doing in the Core region?” he asked.

“The Sect Master allowed the elders to search anywhere they could, without restriction. And they found her in the Core Region a few days ago,” the elder said. “The Sect Master has taken away all the strong Elders to go fight her after that.”

The old man sucked in a deep breath.

Alex was in trouble.
