Chapter 2811: The Depths Again
Alex attempted to stop Death three more times, each time going after her with slightly improved body cultivation. His Blood Aura had improved alongside that as well after absorbing so much of it and was now above Immortal Spirit 7th realm.
And yet, there was no sign that he could possibly stop Death at all. She was far too strong.
Alex stood up after absorbing all the Blood Aura Death had left behind again and waited for the old man to return. The old man flew back a few hours later, telling Alex where Death had been.
She was about a day away from the core region of Hell now, but was thankfully not moving toward the core region.
“This is insane,” the old man said. “You can’t keep dying over and over. You’re not strong enough.”
“No,” Alex said, acknowledging his own shortcomings. “But I need to do something regardless.”
“But what can you do?” the old man asked. “We’ve tried everything. Her soul is missing, so she can’t be reasoned with. You keep dying inside her Divine Sea still, don’t you?”
Alex sighed. The old man was correct in some parts. He had kept on trying and had even managed to reach Immortal Spirit 8th realm in Body Cultivation in the past many days, but none of that had brought on any changes.
He needed to change something about his methods. Anything.
He turned toward the sky, seeing that it was just past its zenith. Then he turned to Whisker, who had been waiting for him after helping gather the beast cores and Blood Aura.
It was as good a time as any to try this.
“Bring out all the Sunhearts. I’m going down,” Alex said.
The old man stepped forward. “You’re going underground?” he asked. “Isn’t this a bad time for that? The mouse is getting all the Elixir you can get anyway.”
“I’m not going there for the Elixir. I need to find out what is inside there. If there is anything of importance down there that can help me get stronger faster, then I need to know now.”
The old man thought for a bit. “Will you be safe?” he asked. He didn’t plan on stopping Alex.
Alex turned to the sky again. “I should be,” he said. “The Yin is at its lowest in a few hours.”
The old man nodded. “Then I pray you find what you’re looking for.”
Alex prepared all that he needed to, taking with him as many storage bags as he could. He planned on gathering from the densest region of the sludge underground to get as much Elixir from there as he could.
The old man warned that Yin would be far stronger this close to the core region, but Alex was ready for it. He was going to use thousands of Decaying Sunhearts, so he knew it would pose him little to no problem.
Once it was time, Alex dove underground along with Whisker, who would be there to keep an eye on him in case things went badly.
Alex quickly made his way down to the familiar porous region of the aquifer, finding plenty of beasts sleeping down there. He ignored them, going down even deeper.
Soon, he was out of where the beasts could stay. Whisker remained at the edge of that region too, no longer able to continue on. He would wait for Alex there.
As Alex continued, the thousand Sunhearts he wore around his body provided plenty of heat to push back against the Yin there. He reached a region where the Sunhearts had stopped working last time, and this time they were still perfectly fine.
He hadn’t had to use his Qi just yet.
Alex continued further and further down, and finally the coldness began to seep in. The Yin touched his body, and the Yin bead reacted again, wanting the Yin.
Alex stopped it again. He wasn’t about to let the Yin bead get stronger in a moment when he needed his Yang to be more potent.
A few minutes later, when Alex was fully using the Yang in his body to protect himself, he reached the flat metal wall underground. He wasn’t sure if he was correct or not, but he could swear this wall was slightly slanted.
He had an acute understanding of gravity, so he could tell which direction was down, and this wall was definitely slanted, albeit by just a small angle.
‘Isn’t it also much higher than last time?’ he thought. ‘Or did I just take less time to reach here?’
It was difficult to tell because he didn’t have much experience getting down here. It was his second time, after all. Whisker would know the answer if he were to ask him later.
Alex felt around the metal wall again.
It was solid and cold, just as ever. ‘That’s useless,’ he thought in annoyance. There was no information to gather from here that he hadn’t already gathered.
‘Since this wall is slanted, how high up does it go?’ Alex wondered. If he had gotten his orientation right, then the core region was to his left right now. Hence, the slanted region wouldn’t take him to the core region by accident.
Alex took note of where he was since he would have to make his way back to Whisker the same direction and checked his Sunhearts once again. Once he knew the frigid Yin Qi of the surroundings could do absolutely nothing to him, he began walking.
Alex walked slowly, climbing up the slanted wall. As he climbed, he found the slant slowly leveling itself into flatness once again. He had barely walked maybe a hundred meters before the slant fixed itself.
‘That was boring,’ he thought. He was expecting the slant to go on forever, or at least for a significant distance. He still continued walking on the wall, hoping to find anything else about it.
Then, he found a sloped region once again after a short distance. Only, this time the slope was downward.
