As Alex’s body regenerated once more, he turned around quickly, trying to see if it was really who he thought it was.
Far away, next to the corpse of a giant bird with bones on its outer body, Death stood perfectly still. Her black hair flowed down the side of her head, completely unkempt, and her face was white with no tan whatsoever.
It was unclear from the distance what sort of clothes she was even wearing. Her entire body was covered in blood that had hardened over the many years, making it look like she had black armor.
Her arms weren’t covered, however, showing the white skin again. And in her right hand, she held a black sword.
Alex barely saw the sword flicker when his head flew off once again.
It took him a moment to realize he had died again. When he came back, he was in bated breaths. A chill went up his spine as he failed to even understand when she had attacked him at all.
He couldn’t see at all.
There was but just a single flicker, and—
He was cut once again.
As he came back again a moment later, breathing even harder. “Wait!” he shouted. “I’m not—”
He died again.
When Alex regenerated again, his body had fallen off the side of the stacked corpse, onto another beast corpse a step lower. He quickly got up, but before he could turn around, he was cut away once again.
He regenerated once more, and even without turning, he began shouting. “I’m not an enemy. Don’t attack me. I’m not—”
Words couldn’t stop Death.
As Alex came back to life again, a portion of his Qi had been spent already. At this rate, he could maybe die 30 more times. After that, he wouldn’t come back to life so easily.
‘Does she not understand me?’ Alex thought. ‘Or is she just not listening?’
He had barely moved when he was cut once again.
The next time Alex came back to life, he remained perfectly still. However, that didn’t work either. The moment he was back to life, it was almost as if she knew he was alive again and killed him immediately.
The next time Alex came back to life, he chose to fight. He reached for his storage bag—
He died.
When he came back to life, Alex immediately brought out the sword. At the same time, he dashed away from where he was in an attempt to dodge the attack.
A slash landed where he was previously, carving the corpse up in perfect half.
Alex turned around, ready to attack, only to be cut the moment he faced Death. When he came back to life, he moved instantly. Given how far away Death was, he couldn’t possibly attack her from where he was.
He had to get close enough so that she would be under his sphere of influence. He was only halfway to her when Alex died again.
Alex tried 3 times to approach her during which he died. Each time he came back to life, he got one step closer.
This close, he could see more of Death.
Death had no emotions. There was no anger or bloodlust or any other feelings that could be read on her face that could be making her do what she was doing. Her eyes seemed vacant, simply looking at things and never taking them in.
He sensed no killing intent from her. To her, she was just crushing an ant beneath her feet, no reason to think about it.
Her hand moved imperceptibly fast and Alex was cut into 10 different pieces in a single strike.
When Alex came back to life again, he knew he had to give it his all. Instantly, blood armor formed around him. At the same time, he reached for the power deep within his Spiritual Sea again.
The irregular rhythm took over his heartbeat and soon, redness covered his body.
Alex spent no second in a single place. He moved, going around Death to try and catch her from the back. As he did, Alex sensed something happening around him.
Before he could even tell what it was that was happening, his body was suddenly cut into a hundred different pieces.
When Alex came back to life, the blood techniques had vanished. The blood armor was destroyed and the blood devil had retreated.
He was on his knees, trying to even comprehend how he had been attacked when she couldn’t even see him, when he died once again.
After coming back to life, Alex saw that Death had turned toward him. This time, he saw her sword make a simple swing.
He immediately put all of his power into his sword, retaliating at the incoming attack with the greatest attack he could make.
True Immolation Strike
To his horror, it did nothing.
The razor-thin attack was cut in half along the long way, instantly bursting out into a blaze. And the cut continued on, cutting Alex perfectly in half.
He died, unable to stop her attack even the tiniest bit.
After so many deaths, Alex understood that this woman was not someone he could even consider fighting. Victory had never been a possibility at all.
This woman wasn’t a human at all. She was a monster.
Death personified.
He understood now why people always seemed to fear the mere word used to describe her. Why his own skin and hair scared so many. The mere possibility that he was her had been enough for people to be prejudiced against him.
The only thing he could do now was try and run away.
Alex instantly dashed away, but the sword cut reached him.
When he came back, he turned invisible to try and sneak away, and yet the sword cut reached him again.
When he came back again, he tried to teleport away, to dodge any attack that may come toward him.
He was cut into a hundred pieces.
Dead. Dead. Dead.
No matter what Alex attempted to do, his only fate was Death.
