The two opponents first circled a bit, and then instantly closed the distance.
But before Li Weifang could make his first strike, he felt a sharp piercing sensation against his Niwan Palace, widening his eyes as a quick and precise thrust of the Sky Piercer came without any forewarning motions.
It cut through his wind, completely unaffected by the strong torrent that was designed to throw off the directions of any incoming attack.
Li Weifang barely parried it, but before he could even think about the next move or doing anything, it withdrew and already another thrust came from a different angle as the spear shaft bent to snake around his first defense.
More than 40 quick thrusts, accurately targeting him from various angles, came in the span of a minute in Li Weifang’s perception time, in an unending torrent, for 5 minutes straight, as he struggled to parry them all, forced to back away to try and gain distance, though he was ultimately unsuccessful in doing that, locked in close combat.
His wind was not able to accumulate, dissipating with each strike of the Sky Piercer.
He didn’t even have time to utilize any Spiritual Qi halberd techniques as even a moment away from focusing on this pure martial skill combat would cost him an injury lessening his combat potential at best, and as far as his life at worst.
Wu Long’s cold, emotionless eyes, did not betray any of his intentions or where he was going to strike, completely empty of any indications, which Li Weifang never encountered, always able to at least vaguely tell what his opponent was aiming to do by the look in the eyes.
The same was with subtle muscle motions which confused him rather than told him the next move Wu Long was going to make.
Wu Long’s attacks also forced his defensive moves, opening up multiple other angles of attacks elsewhere, as Wu Long completely took control of where their weapons would clash from the first move.
But not only that, the pace and their relative positions, everything was completely taken over by Wu Long as he seemingly freely moved around while locking Li Weifang into certain movement directions and positions.
As a result, a wide sweep of the spear at the end of the torrent of thrusts seemingly came out of nowhere, and because Li Weifang’s halberd was forced to defend an upward angle before, he blocked with the metal part in the middle of the halberd’s shaft.
The spear seemed to become alive with a mind of its own as it retreated, bending like a snake to get around the shaft of the halberd and lunged at his wide open torso, the speed of the thrust even higher because of the straightening of the spear shaft from a bent position.
He was forced to evade instead of parrying and blocking for the first time, instinctively gathering Wind to help shift the spear’s direction which didn’t work at all, and bringing back the shaft to try and knock the spear away.
He succeeded at the last moment, as the spear blade only grazed his shoulder, cutting through his protective Spiritual Qi like a scorching hot knife through butter and leaving a shallow cut on the shoulder.
He flew back with wide eyes full of shock and horror, looking at Wu Long who retrieved the spear, and rotated it to once again hold it with only his right hand at a comfortable reclined downward angle, while his left hand went behind his back, looking relaxed and unperturbed as he allowed Li Weifang to retreat.
“…”, Li Weifang wanted to ask a myriad questions, but his mouth opened and closed without being able to utter a word, not even feeling the cut on the shoulder at all out of shock.
Wu Long was too fast, their speed was almost even, and didn’t lose in strength much, even though all of that should have been impossible.
The strange ability to dissipate the wind was also something he encountered for the first time, as even other Wind Qi users, as incredibly rare they were, could never interfere with his Wind Qi, only creating their own wind with their Wind Qi to counter his. With Wu Long, it felt like his Wind Qi simply unraveled on its own.
But more than any of that, Li Weifang was shocked at the spear skills that Wu Long just showed.
‘H-How…h-he’s almost like… no… perhaps even more… but that’s… i-it’s impossible to obtain such skill in a lifespan of a Mortal Transcendence Realm… and this youthful aura… he shouldn’t be more than 20-30 years old… h-how is this…’, he watched Wu Long with wide eyes.
“You have a good, stable base, a vast and deep combat experience, and more than anything, very good battle sense”, Wu Long spoke with an introspective expression appearing on his face, and a note of frustration, “But your skills… although trained thoroughly and because of your obvious talent, very well developed… who the heck taught you spear skills when you are a halberd user? Tsk… talk about a waste of potential and ruining a genius…”
Li Weifang froze, as there was genuine lament and frustration in Wu Long’s voice, as if he mourned the burying of a great talent.
“I-…”, Li Weifang’s voice broke at the very first sound it made, unable to reply as he nervously gulped, trying to fix it.
“Haa~ it seems that the family you serve is of Spear Masters… is the man you spoke about the one who trained you in Halberd Arts?”, Wu Long sighed, as he could feel the same aura of Spear Qi and Spear Intent around the Young Master that this Li Weifang was protecting as he previously felt from the Seven Scars Guild Leader, and could vaguely feel a similar one around this Li Weifang.
Li Weifang unconsciously and nervously nodded, not even realizing he was obeying Wu Long’s commanding presence to voluntarily answer his questions.
“Tsk… I don’t know about Spear Arts, but he’s complete trash in teaching Halberd Arts if he really thinks that you’re using them, or is intentionally ruining your talent by teaching you the wrong way which arguably makes him worse than trash”, Wu Long shook his head while clicking his tongue in annoyance.
This caused Li Weifang to shudder, as before this, his teacher was someone who could not be faulted by anyone around him, and was the epitome of weapon mastery in his eyes.
But at the same time, he could not refute someone whose skill, in Spear Arts at least, was seemingly on par, if not greater.
The Sky Piercer disappeared from Wu Long’s hand, and next his Spiritual Qi started flowing from his palm.
‘No… that’s not Spiritual Qi… t-that is… H-Halberd Qi…?!?! I-Impossible…?!’, Li Weifang could not believe his eyes, doubting himself again and again only to stare in the face of reality.
Creating Weapon Qi without holding a physical weapon was something only extreme Masters of a weapon could do. Only a handful of people living at the same time period in the entirety of the Boundless Profound World were usually able to do this. And even in periods of extreme prosperity of weapon masters, the amount of such people living in Boundless Profound World at the same time never crossed a hundred.
Wu Long’s Halberd Qi formed the shape of a beautiful halberd, one Li Weifang never saw, but could be certain was an incredible treasure of unfathomable strength, as he stretched his left hand out, and lightly beckoned, “Come”
“…”, Li Weifang gulped nervously.
He knew, that if he had any chance of winning this fight, it was to not engage in close martial skill combat, where he was clearly inferior, but compete in larger techniques which relied more on the power of Spiritual Qi, as his reinforced Spiritual Qi was bound to be far more powerful than Wu Long’s normal Spiritual Qi.
He had to press the advantage of his Cultivation Realm, as well as to rely more on the power of his Wind Element.
But… he had to know.
He slowly floated forward, toward Wu Long, and after a moment more of hesitation, moved into range.
Wu Long’s halberd moved, this time slightly slower, making a powerful chopping move, but as Li Weifang blocked it, the former hooked the blades together with a flick of the wrist and moved it away, forcefully opening Li Weifang’s stance while his halberd crescent blade was now able to slide down along the shaft of Li Weifang’s halberd.
Li Weifang barely shifted the shaft to halt Wu Long’s halberd blade’s movement but this allowed the latter to hook the shaft itself and point the blade at the former’s chest.
A quick thrust, only thwarted by raising the shaft up and to the side to shift the halberd away, but it maintained control of the shaft with the hooking motion from before, bringing it down to graze another shoulder.
This time, however, the Halberd Qi-made blade wasn’t able to cut through the protective Qi, as it was still Mortal-grade Spiritual Qi without the backing of a sufficient treasure.
And with a turn of the wrist, the blade of the halberd turned flat and made a horizontal slash which went through Li Weifang’s throat, also unable to cut it.
As the latter was already defensively retreating when the last slash happened, Wu Long allowed Li Weifang to retreat further, this time unharmed.
“…”, Li Weifang looked at Wu Long for a few moments in silence, and then floated down.
Wu Long followed, as they eventually reached the ground, where Li Weifang fell to his knees.
