D.E.M.O.N.S: Getting Summoned Weekly isn't so Bad

Kamiko opened the door for them even before Kat had a chance to knock so she stepped inside with Lily. "Hey Kat! I’m ready to head over to Sue’s place basically whenever. Oh, and Mum’s not here but she did leave a note about a few of the questions you had so let me just get that for you…"

Kat smiled as Kamiko dashed off not even giving them a chance to say hello. A few moments later Kamiko dashed back out of the kitchen with a letter in hand and passed it off to Kat. Pocketing it for now Kat smiled and said, "It’s good to see you Kamiko, how have you been,"

"Oh I’ve been a bit go-go-go lately. The triplets have this energy boosting ability that they used to help me get through my training but it hasn’t run out and I have not slept in three days!" cheered Kamiko.

Kat glanced at Lily who was standing beside her not sure what to say. Lily however, always had questions. "Um… is that safe?"

"Oh yes completely safe," said Kamiko why practically vibrating in place. Kat really wasn’t sure how Kamiko could say the word without them getting caught in her throat. It seemed patently ridiculous that nothing bad had happened.

"Right…" mumbled Kat. "Why are you so jittery then?"

"Oh! If you stack the effect and haven’t done any intense physical exercise recently it doesn’t really going away! I’ve got enough energy for another day or two before I run out and because I’m Rank 3 now it means I’m the same strength as the triplets so they just used the ’standard dose’ they give each other…

"Which honestly might have been a bit much. Not sure if they have some extra resistance to the effects because they’re triplets with the same ability or there’s something else at play here but I have been ready for action constantly! The fact we took a break so I could be rested and ready to go out with you has likely only made things worse!

"See the ability isn’t just one jolt of energy, that would be potentially bad. Instead it gives you a sort of… energy dense cube… or some other shape that regularly boosts you over time! It means you don’t have endless energy all at once but if you’re not really doing anything that extra energy really builds up!"

Um… ok so obviously convincing her to relax isn’t going to work. So… what to do? Wait the letter! Nira might have something to say about this.

In the end I couldn’t get away from my work to visit you but I also didn’t end up finding out too much about the storage rings you’re asking about. I had mine provided because it’s medical grade with a bunch of interesting features so it’s hard for me to say.

All I can suggest is that if you go to the malls there is a list of stores to avoid at the bottom of the letter. Oh, and do also make sure to ASK specifically for something that will work on Earth. The companies I’ve listed are more of a ’purse style’ ring with no real space and are rather cheap in price and quality.

Additionally, that practice for hiding your wings that you asked about? You can sign up for classes but Rank 4 might not be enough to manage the technique. It involves doing a few things at once and constantly keeping them all active while going about your business so it’s not helpful at all in regards to hiding your wings while you sleep. I personally recommend just upgrading your mattress instead.

Kat frowned at the letter. Well this doesn’t help me at all. Ok that’s both rude and not true because the list of companies to avoid will be useful, and I guess knowing that hiding my wings won’t work for what I want… but I was really hoping to have something to calm Kamiko down. Probably best I push to head to Sue’s straight away and hope she knows something.

"Right well… I’m glad you’re feeling energised Kamiko. Did you want to head over to Sue’s now? You can tell me about what else you’ve been up to once we get there," insisted Kat.

"Of course!" said Kamiko with a smile. "It’ll be great to see her." Then, instead of waiting for the go ahead Kamiko pulled Kat and Lily out of her house and teleported straight to Sue’s place using the teleportation network crystal.

Unlike Kamiko’s family Sue’s did not have their own personal crystal for moving people around. This meant Kat and co were dropped off in the middle of the housing area. Kamiko knew where to go and was already pulling them along but Kat couldn’t help but be confused by the houses themselves.

The housing area was a collection of small, barely there hills with windows sticking out of them and they were EVERYWHERE. As far as the eye could see where more hills in a shockingly uniform style. It gave the area an odd appearance and the footpaths just made that more obvious.

"Ok… what’s with all the hills? That can’t be natural?" asked Kat.

"I said exactly the same thing!" chimed Kamiko. "Sue answered me straight away because apparently it’s a question everyone asks! HMm… should I explain? On the one hand it’s Sue’s house but on the other she did seem very sick of telling the story…" Kamiko was silent for barely half a second’s worth of thought. "Ok I’ll tell it then!

"So, Sue’s parents got this house when they were a lot younger and never upgraded. Er… I mean the upgraded the house obviously but they never changed lots. They were looking for an ’interesting and somewhat unique’ house style and went to a real estate broker that specialised in both construction and real estate.

"One of the things on offer was of course this style of house and they liked the idea of it. The issue? They don’t let you pick your lot unless you pay a considerable amount of extra money. It’s essentially twice the price of the house and land so it really wasn’t worth it. They declined and were assigned a lot, and a house…

"And well they soon found out that they didn’t just get a nice hill lot in a random housing area but a standardised hill lot that everyone here has! It makes it a lot less cool and unique… but apparently they still liked the house and just haven’t bothered to change things. They do upgrade it regularly but they’re not allowed to build much above ground because of the rules regarding this particular estate…"

Kamiko finished her explanation just as they got Sue’s house. At least, Kat was assuming it was Sue’s because she was getting dragged along someone’s footpath at this point and the door was right there. Kamiko knocked a few times and Sue popped her head out. "Hey Sue! I was just telling Kat about your house!" smiled Kamiko.

"Is she alright?" asked Sue ignoring the greeting.

"Maybe?" offered Kat. "Apparently it’s a known side effect of an energy boosting skill that was used on her and she insists that it’s safe but well…"

"I see…" mumbled Sue before turning to Kamiko again who was just smiling and fidgeting in place while they’d ignored her. "Good to see you as well Kamiko and yeah thanks for telling that story," Sue continued speaking as she stepped out and closed the door behind her. She was now leaning against the doorframe. "I don’t hate telling it but I don’t love explaining either.

"It’s just… my house you know? I grew up here so the area is just considered normal to me. It wasn’t until I had friends over for the first time that I even realised that somebody would have questions about it, and it wasn’t till a bit later that I saw what a more standard looking housing area was like. I mean, some of the friends I had when I was little lived here so they didn’t think it was weird either.

"Anyway… best not to go inside for the moment. My parents are… enjoying some time together and they’ve got a weird artifact they’re using to spice things up… again. It doesn’t really bother me but I’m sure it would be quite bothersome for you three,"

"Ah… thanks for that…" offered Kat.

At the same time. "Why would it be bothersome? If they’re having fun I’m sure they’d like to see more people!"

[Are we sure that energy ability has no side effects? Kamiko is pretty naïve at times but SURELY she knows what Sue’s talking about considering she hasn’t ever hidden what her parents are like.]

Sue opened her mouth a few times. "Must… resist… urge… to make… ranchy… joke,"

"She kinda deserves it though," muttered Kat. Not low enough to prevent Kamiko hearing but perhaps low enough for Kamiko to ignore?
