Chapter 284

“…!”

The neighing of horses echoed from the skies.

Neiiiigh!”

“Hiiiiiing!”

“P-Pegasus…?!”

The papal soldiers looked up to the sky and were shocked to see a flock of winged horses descending from the clouds. The riders of these mystical creatures were extremely beautiful people with pointy ears.

The soldiers immediately realized that these people were none other than the flying squadron of the legendary kingdom of the elves, Elondel.

“Oh my god! It’s a flying squadron! It’s Elondel’s Flying Squadron!” a knight shouted.

Flying squadron? Why will the kingdom only found in legends suddenly come here?’ Pope Theopilus was baffled.

The knights from the kingdom of the elves, Elondel, could only be met by the officials of the Proatine Kingdom, and it was impossible for ordinary people like the pope to meet them.

Neiiiigh!” Hyperion neighed loudly before landing in front of the papal troops. Steam blew out from his nostrils in anger as the intelligent creature recognized what was happening in the village.

The beautiful knight riding on the pegasus, the Princess of Elondel, Brunhilde, asked, “What do you think you’re doing?”

The pope smiled brightly and replied, “Ah! You must be Elondel’s legendary flying squadron! It’s nice to meet you. I’m a servant of the Nameless God as well as the current pope of the papacy, Theopilus the Fifth.”

He licked his lips before continuing. “I would like to ask you to reveal your identity first.”

“I am the Princess of Elondel as well as the captain of these knights, Brunhilde,” she replied in a cold voice. The look in her eyes showed obvious contempt for the pope.

“Oh! So you’re Elondel’s princess? But what brings you here to our lands and interfere in our business?”

“Are you seriously asking me that? You’re committing atrocities by selling out the name of god!”

“Atrocities? Do you think that the papacy is committing atrocities right now, Princess?”

“Then, what is this?!”

“Hahaha! I think you’re greatly misunderstanding something! I have lived far away from evil all my life, princess.”

“What nonsense are you—”

“These children are seeds of those possessed by demons,” Pope Theopilus cut her off before continuing. “They will also grow up to become possessed by demons! You can’t call these imps children! Do you realize what kind of evil they are capable of once they become adults?!”

“…”

“I’m certain that you are aware that the best way to remove weed is by pulling it by its roots. I, a faithful servant of god, am currently weeding out these demons by pulling them by their roots! Do you understand now, Princess?”

Brunhilde was absolutely speechless by the pope’s brazenness.

She immediately mobilized her squadron after receiving the Proatine Kingdom’s request to form a coalition, and she happened to witness the atrocities the papal troops were committing while flying to Vaper Fortress.

If she was a step late, the infant would have been skewered by the sword by now.

However, this maniac dared to sell the name of god to commit such atrocity…?

“You are truly despicable,” Brunhilde muttered as rage flashed in her eyes, and then she glared at the pope and said, “You are the one possessed by a demon. You’re nothing but a demon pretending to be a holy man.”

“What proof do you have to make such slander against me? Did you say your name was Brunhilde? You should know how to act if you’re truly a princess of the—-” Pope Theopilus grimaced and went on a tirade.

However, Brunhilde wasn’t interested in his lecture as she immediately shouted, “Flying Squadron! Prepare for battle!”

“Prepare for battle!” the elven knights roared in unison.

The pegasus flew up into the air and aimed their bows at the papal troops.

“I will not tolerate this atrocity any longer! I swear by my bow that all of you will be executed on the spot if you lay a single finger on those innocent people!” Brunhilde threatened in a voice that sent chills down the papal soldiers' spines.

Her gentle and warm self was nowhere to be found as she was completely overcome by rage.

“I am warning you. Back off now, or else all of you will be executed immediately,” she added.

Hohoho!

However, Pope Theopilus simply laughed in response.

“What a foolish elf—no, bitch.”

“…?”

“Do you see the difference in our numbers? You dare threaten me, the pope?!”

“If you insist on—” Brunhilde replied.

This time, the pope wasn’t interested in what she had to say this time as he interrupted and shouted, “O, holy warriors of god! Cut those filthy elves that dare to get in the way of our god!”

“His Holiness has given his command!”

The papal troops rushed at Brunhilde the moment the pope gave the order, and the battle between the papal troops and the elves started.

***

The battle between the papacy and the elves was truly fierce. The elves only numbered one hundred, but they easily reduced the number of the papal troops. It was a given that the papal troops would have a hard time defending against the elves’ onslaught, as the elves were raining down arrows on them while flying on their pegasus.

However, the elves’ aerial superiority only lasted thirty minutes. The papal troops were slowly pushing them to a corner.

“Don’t aim at them! Fire in unison at one area! We are going to herd them where we want them to be with our arrows!”

The papal troops immediately devised a strategy to form a net made out of arrows by shooting at the elves in quick succession of volleys, and the strategy was super effective.

It was impossible to hit the pegasus in the air, so firing at them in an attempt to herd them instead of hitting them was the far superior strategy.

Neigh!”

“Neiiiigh!”

Thanks to that, some of the elves either crashed into the nearby forest or sustained critical wounds and had to retreat from battle.

‘I have to do something!’ Brunhilde knew that things were going to be bad for them if she did not do anything about the situation.

They would have easily won if the papal troops numbered around five thousand at most, but they were far more than that. The soldiers were also armed with bows as well, so every single one of them could attack the elves.

Someone had to fight on the ground and prevent the archers from freely firing at the flying squadron, and the only one who could fight while surrounded by enemies was Brunhilde.

“Let’s go, Hyperion!”

Neiiiigh!”

Hyperion braved the volleys of arrows and descended at frightening speeds.

Tak!

Brunhilde jumped off of her mount and landed on the ground.

Her sword, Holy Sword: Phoenix, burned brightly in her hand.

She pointed her sword at the pope, who was currently surrounded by his holy knights.

“You demon pretending to be a human… I, Brunhilde, the Princess of Elondel, hereby pass judgment on you in the name of the Earth Goddess!” Brunhilde shouted before she ran into a swarm of papal troops.

Shockingly, the papal troops fell one by one as soon as she clashed against them.

Sseuuu!

The holy sword burned brightly in her hands, and every swing of it wreaked havoc on the lines of the papal forces.

“She’s on the brink of becoming a Master!”

“Stop her! We have to stop her at all costs!”

The holy knights and paladins tried their best to stop Brunhilde.

‘There’s no mercy for these evildoers who dared to do such atrocities under the name of God! They shouldn’t have harmed the little ones, at the very least!’ Brunhilde gritted her teeth and fought fiercely.

A wall had prevented her from becoming a Master, but she was still a top-tier Sword Expert who possessed the title Sword of Elondel.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

The papal troops fell one by one, and even the paladins were helpless against her.

However, there was no splatter of blood anywhere on the ground. The holy sword did not permit its wielder to shed the blood of those weaker than her, so it immediately cauterized the wound while cutting through their flesh.

“Damn it! That wench dares to go against the will of god?!” Pope Theopilus raged.

Whiiiiish… Pukeok!

A mace flew out of nowhere and struck the back of the pope’s head before flying back to its owner’s hand.

“Brunhilde-nim!” Siegfried shouted after finally catching up to them.

“Siegfried-nim!”

Her face beamed after she spotted him in the distance.

“I’ll help you! Let’s fight together!” he said.

“It will be my honor!”

Siegfried joined the fray and—

Fwaaaaa! Fwaaaaah!

Seuruk… Seuruk…!

—Both Blaze Field and Shadow Swamp were placed down, and their effects were immediately felt by the papal troops.
