Chapter 3637: Breaker of Rules
Meanwhile, back in that room where the Universe Owners were gathered, all the eight altars were still lit, the different projections floating above them.
*Bzzz...*
Suddenly, one of the altars seemed to react to something, and the image of a forge on top of it cracked. Not long passed, and the forge collapsed projection, quickly followed by the altar itself.
Triaglia and the other Universe Owners looked at it, surprised to see the first altar falling that fast.
"It can’t be..." Well, the most shocked was definitely that altar’s owner. He was a beautiful man, but the traits of a demon flower could be seen all over his body. He was none other than Ruvic, the Universe F949 Owner.
*Ugh!*
Suddenly, the central altar lit up, and a powerful energy came out of it. Not only that, but the overwhelming presence of the person they all called master was there, too. Their master didn’t appear, though. Instead, that energy wrapped around Ruvic on its own, whose expression turned into deep despair. "Wait, master! Stop! Don’t-"
His pled got no answer, and the power penetrated his body. Ruvic tried to use his Celestial Laws and Power to try to get free, but nothing he did worked. He simply wasn’t at the same level as that power.
*dridridridridridri...*
Ruvic reverted to his real Hibiscus Flower form, but it quickly dried up. Its life was being taken away by the central altar’s power. In just a few seconds, the Demon Flower, once known as the Universe F949 Owner, died. Not even his soul remained.
Finally, the power of the central altar disappeared, causing the rest of the Universe Owners there to sigh in relief. Even if it wasn’t targeting them, just that pressure truly made it hard to keep calm.
"Hmph!" The Universe F952 Owner, the one with a Pink Light and also looked like a small Minotaur, snorted. "What an idiot. Even if his chosen failed this time, he could have tried again next."
He looked at the other experts. "I hope for your own good that you didn’t try to intervene directly with your chosen."
Everyone narrowed their eyes as they looked at each other. They knew what happened there. Their fellow brother, Ruvic, died, but not because his chosen died. Instead, Ruvic had broken the rules. He could not help Getty. Since he died like that, it is because he did something he shouldn’t have. Their master was very clear about it, and he even mentioned an older fellow brother/disciple who suffered the same consequences.
Trialgia sighed. "He was one of the oldest between us. He probably just couldn’t take it anymore."
The Wolfman spoke as the Purple Light on his chest shone, a sign from Universe F950. "I just hope I will never have to try something like that."
Everyone went silent. They had been Universe Owners for so long, but Ruvic was indeed one of the oldest. Perhaps he decided to give it a try, thinking he could accept the consequences. Yet, in his last moments, it was obvious he regretted what he did. Or perhaps he simply thought he would never get caught. Maybe he thought his chosen would be victorious for certain? No one would ever know.
Everyone just looked at the projections above their altars. They could only hope their chosen would be the last one standing. Still, even if they weren’t, as long as the Universe Owners don’t break the rules, they will have other chances... It’s just that they will have to wait a few millions of years for each one. Well, it could also turn into a few tens of millions. It all depended on their master’s mood.
---
Back in the arena, the twins and Rifindio haven’t been sent out yet. After all, Lafanxa was still alive, and only by killing all your enemies would you be allowed to leave.
Rean and Roan worked together. This time, it was Rean who read her memories. He didn’t care about damaging the woman’s soul. He went as deep as he could, trying to find any information regarding the chosen issue.
Finally, her soul began to crack, failing to resist Rean’s approach. But that wasn’t all. It also was protected. It only took a few minutes, and her soul was destroyed.
Rifindio looked in expectation to Rean. "So, how was it?"
Rean sighed, though. "Unfortunately, her memories regarding the chosen issue were also sealed. It was at the same level as the Triaglia’s seal we found in that Camazotz Bat, no doubt a Celestial Realm expert put it there. I did manage to get some pieces of information before her soul collapsed, though."
He continued. "Just like Getty, Rifindio will be able to feel the presence of other chosen as long as they are close enough to each other. The same seems to apply to all chosen ones. Also, there seems to be a place in this Golden Palace that is only possible to enter if a chosen has absorbed all the other chosen ones’ powers. Don’t ask me what it is, though."
Roan wasn’t surprised at all. "So be it. At least, it seems none of the chosen know who the others are. We will only find out once they detect each other."
"There is more," Rean added. "Rifindio might be wondering why he hasn’t felt the presence of other chosen back in the lake or at the Golden Palace Entrance Gate. After all, everyone was close to each other there."
Rifindio was just about to inquire about that. "Indeed. What is the difference now?"
"It’s because the chosen power only manifests once they went beyond the fifth region," Rean explained. "It is kind of a test. If you can’t even get to the fifth region, then there is no need for you to play any part in this chosen bullshit."
"Hum?" Rifindio quickly noticed a problem. "What if a chosen dies before the fifth region? Or what if they die after the fifth region, but not because of another chosen? How could I acquire the chosen power of someone who was left behind?"
"Beats me..." Rean shrugged. "Perhaps it passes to someone else of their own Universe? Or maybe it selects another chosen randomly? I don’t know. I wasn’t able to find an answer to that. Even worse, it is very unlikely we can try to read someone else’s memory regarding this issue from now on."
"Why?" Rifindio found it even more annoying.
Rean definitely felt the same as he answered. "Because Lafanxa shouldn’t have even known anything about this chosen shit either. No one of her background should. Her master, the Universe Owner, seems to have broken whatever these rules were by telling her and the others about it. Something about his last attempt or the like."
"That’s quite enough for us," Roan stopped Rean there. "Rifindio, pay attention up ahead. If you feel that connection again, tell us immediately. The other side might not even know anything about all of this yet, which would actually be an advantage to us."
"Alright!" Rifindio would obviously do so.
*Crack, crack, crack...*
Suddenly, the space around the twins and Rifindio began to break. Then, a powerful spatial pull caught their bodies, and they were pulled away from that plane. With their enemies dead, the twins and Rifindio had finally made it to the outside of the arena.
